Hello all! DawnLuna here again, hope you all are having a good start to the week!
New discussion topic! Do you use Avatar Builder? or Do you prefer avatar dress up (where you change your avi)? or Do you not have a preference?
- Do you like/actively use Avatar Builder? What do you like about it? What don't you like?
- What do you like / not like about regular dress up?
I personally use Avatar Builder all the time and I use Gaia Upgrade to change the look of it.
Looking forward to your responses! You can answer one or all of the questions or just post your thoughts~

I always use avatar builder to create avatars as I find it much easier to see the item poses laid out. I have a bad memory for which pose belongs to which item, and sometimes when I just want to find something the right colour it’s much easier to see. I use Gaia on mobile mostly so it’s a bit easier, as the item menus in dress up on mobile view are a bit of a pain.
The only problems I find with it are that it’s a bit more work as you need to transfer item by item over to the actual dress up page, plus it’s easy to accidentally use duplicates if I’m not paying attention. Sometimes it gets a weird bug where it won’t let me undo too, so if it changes an item and I can’t undo it means I lost progress and have to find the first item again.
I’d love if there was a way to export the items from avatar builder to dress up. Or a few slots to save outfits like dress up has, which would be especially helpful when halfway through building an avi for myself and wanting to ghost someone at the same time.

For ghosting, I like to use avatar builder. For personal avatars, I like to use dress up. I love seeing the multiple poses of an item in the builder... very useful when ghosting. I don't like that it breaks down at certain times. I love the outfit feature in dress up.

i vastly prefer avatar dress up for dressing up my own avi bc i like the familiarity of my closet and it makes me know my invo more intimately i actually like the compactness of avi dress up bc the all-poses-laid-out format of avi builder overwhelms me... for avi builder my biggest reason to not use it would be the inability to SAVE drafts like how i could in avi dress up bc i usually work on avis in stages (?) so an avi does not always get completed in one go. you can't do that in avi builder. one wrong click and it's all gone scream i really would like a tagging/frequently used classification system so i do not have to type 'agape/sketchbook' every damn avi. imagine the potential..

I'm just too used to regular dress up to use the avatar builder. Although most of my invo is a hot mess I do have a portion of it organized so I typically just search color schemes and my usual favorite items to build avis

I agree, I really like to see the the item poses laid out. And I also use dress up on mobile! The pop up menus just stay popped up argg. Exporting would be amazing! There is an option now in builder where you can work on three separate avis in three slots. I use it allll the time ^_-^

I wish there was a more clear way builder showed which poses go with which item. Also your current looks like you are twinning a bit with i risas i so very pretty! 4laugh

The compactness is really nice! It does save though, every time you exit and come back its still there smile The losing the saves bug seems to have been worked out, I know I complained a ton in ATS. That would be AMAZING! I wish they would just have a simple "cutter" tag even for all those cutters. I do use "singlecutter" but that's still too long.

Yeah, I wish tags weren't lacking so much on older items, especially because it's rough when you have lots of items you're not super familiar with. But I guess the search for just the right accessories and poses can be part of the fun for me xD
And thank you!! Same to you! Your color scheme, expression, & theme are perfect!

I agree, some of the tags don't show up properly. Like just recently, I got a bunch of items in the Atlantean scheme, but I have to swap through Atlantic and Atlantean and Atlantis to find all of the items I want to use. :/
I use both builders like the same as those others before me. Working on my own creations with my own inventory, I'll do the regular dress up. I actually like keeping all the pop up windows open, especially when I'm trying to decide between different hair or arm mods, etc. That way I don't have to go back and find them again.
Then working with either the full Gaia database on like a dream avatar or ghosting for someone, I do like the Avatar Builder setup. I like seeing all the poses at once and I can quick scan through them and see what might have what I'm looking for. I really do miss the pop up windows because I'm very unfamiliar with the extent of items on the site and most often I just can't remember the previous mouth mod I just looked at. Maybe if there was a "recently used" list or something? That'd be helpful. Otherwise I'll just have to try to remember to use a pad and paper, I guess.

Wouldn't be the first time doing that for me either rofl I really wish they both had a redo button!! Ooo good tip! Oh so messy. They need a person dedicated to cleaning that up.

I know! A part of me wants to go through and really organize and try to sort through my inventory so I can at least remember what some of my older items are but gosh, there's just so many lol
And no worries, I love the range of avatars we have here. Some days it's just nice to be cute <3 if anything, I just love avatars that really lean into their theme/colors so you're lovely whee
