Quote:
Ever dark, filled with an unplaceable, dull glow, the Hall of Shadows yawns open before them. Thick glass frames either side of the narrow corridor, barring in people who have long since stopped being people. These shambling creatures amble up at the passing of each soldier, their mouths agape in unvoiced moans, their sloughed-off skin hanging from overlong, bony fingers as they pressed their hands to the glass. Their eyes -- no more than whiteout holes in their heads -- bore into each passerby.
Where Negaverse senshi pass, they grow agitated. They twitch into fits that their bodies lacked the energy to afford, they hiss, and some claw great gouges into the protective barrier. The lament of the not-dead fills the hall around each soldier's silence. They were each warned -- don't make eye contact, don't acknowledge them.
One senshi broke rank. Gave them a smile, a wave, a wink. Before he drew his next breath, he was gone -- pulled behind the glass. Starseed eaten. Body disappeared.
The hallway wore on, stretching uncomfortably, but not forever. Faustite pushed open the double doors at the edge, opening that cramped space to the strange, violet light of the world beyond. They stood on a precipice, with the Citadel at their back towering up into the rugose sky, and an unearthly violet glow that rusted, overexposed, and burned into the landscape. The Scar was hours away: hours beyond the steppes, the colosseum, the ruined city, the unending crystalline plains. All of it teeming with youma.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
OOC SHENANIGANS
Here's the ground rules. Respect each other, play fair, and please read all the pertinent information before you get playing. I promise to make it short and sweet.
Your character is going on an adventure in the Rift. This means they won't come out of this without some form of injury. Nobody has to get maimed or killed; it might just be a few shallow cuts and scrapes! But please be aware that the Rift is a dangerous place, and if your character isn't paying attention, they will get hurt.
ICly this event spans the 10th to the 11th. Your character has taken a weekend trip to HellsVille.
This event has three parts and each part chronologically succeeds the last.
Part 1 is CLOSED Part 2 is OPEN Part 3 is PENDING
Part 1 and 2 span several hours each; this means, in addition to the primary threads, you are free to make PRPs in this subforum for the IC downtime between prompts. For example, OOCly a prompt drops and the prompt indicates that ICly characters get ambushed by a youma. The next prompt drops in 24 hours OOC, and IC this means a few hours may pass until something else happens to the characters. In that few hours, you could establish a separate thread where character X asks character Y about the youma they just encountered, or character A performs first aid on character B.
Thus this event is part plot-driven, and part sandbox. You do not have to make extra threads, but it is encouraged if you want to explore the full experience.
For extra threads: If you want to make a PRP or ORP, please title your RP as [Scar-R/B/ORP] Title. R for Regular, B for Battle, ORP for... You get the idea. You can quote me if you want environmental shenanigans to happen in the thread, but this is not required.
If you have questions, please drop them in this thread! Just quote me!

WHAT YOUR CHARACTER SHOULD KNOW
IC SHENANIGANS
You signed up for a mission into a Rift. You chose or were chosen for one of three teams. Either you are or aren't familiar with the leadership of each team, but if you aren't, a shady someone stuck around to inform you:
Quote:
"Aquamarine's the blonde one, yeah? Got a real mouth on 'im. Nobody likes the guy and he's always following Jet around, like he ain't got a head of his own.
"And Jet?" The Captain jerks a knobby, twisted thumb at the curly-haired one. "Used to be one angry sonofagun. I heard he tortured some people with that blonde hemorrhoid of his. Seems like he cooled off some, but who knows? He's still got a lotta bite left for anyone who looks at his recruits funny. Might be in good hands if you're on his team, long as you avoid his biggest fanboy.
"And speakin' of cooled off, Faustite ain't it. Guy on fire? Temperament matches the drapes. They say he just came back from a long stint in the Rift, and he ran a draining op that got Infiltration's knickers in a bunch. Before that, he's run as many missions as he's had surgeries. His team might be good for tactics, but I dunno about havin' a half-youma at the head of the group." He sucked his teeth and spat.
"Black-haired shy-looking one is Kamacite. Nobody really knows much about him -- he'd just as soon teleport from ya as talk to ya. His magic's got all kinds of flash to it. Been a part of the Negaverse since his first day, too; they say his General, wolf-lookin' dude, took him down to the Rift early. I don't know what makes him leadership material, but uh, better close your eyes if you hear 'im shout, yeah?" He gave a friendly shoulder clap for posterity, then ducked back into the faceless crowd.
The great hall of the Citadel is empty save for one long, large folding table. On it sit several backpacks, each one largely the same as the next. You're instructed to take one for the mission, as it has exploration necessities with some room to spare. You've a few hours before the mission starts; you've been given leave to add what you like to the pack before you go.
Congratulations! you have received a backpack!
Contains: - Bottles of water - Trail mix bars - Jerky strips - First aid kit - Climbing equipment - Kerosene lamp - Matches
For those who don't know much about the Rift, enclosed in one of the backpack's pockets is a handy, typed missive:
Quote:
Familiarize yourself with the rules of the Rift before you enter it.
You are trespassing in the home of youma. They are our allies, but we are not always their masters. All Negaverse senshi will be attacked. All Lieutenants will be attacked. Captains, and even Generals, must be wary. Any trace of humanity inflames them.
Youma were people once, now twisted rotten into bodies unrecognizable. Beware that some want to be human again. Beware that some don't.
Their food and drink are starseeds and energy. You are an energy-wrapped starseed. Respect their hunger. Do not bring energy or starseeds with you unless you want to die.
Youma imitate people. They act out half-remembered behaviors with no clue or context for what those behaviors do. You will see youma act as servers to a diner that doesn't exist. You will see youma act as animals. You will hear wolves talk in sophisticated voices. You will see fireflies blink out traffic signs. The world you are entering will not make sense to you, but it makes perfect sense to them. Follow their logic.
Don't let them lead you astray.

PART 1: THE HUNT
INFORMATION FOR ALL THREADS
There will be fights in most of these threads. All characters will have HP. It is assumed that all characters can hit things.
Health:
First stage characters and cat-form cats have 50 HP. Second stage characters and human-form/sailor-form cats have 75 HP. Third stage characters have 100 HP.
Attack (without weapons):
First stage characters and cat-form cats roll 1d6 to fisticuffs things. Second stage characters and human-form/sailor-form cats roll 1d8 to fisticuffs things. Third stage characters roll 1d10 to fisticuffs things.
Special:
All Negaverse senshi and Cats have the ability to instantly dust a youma. For Negaverse senshi, this can only be done with their attack magic. For cats, this can only be done with their kitty beams. Use them wisely. All human Negaverse agents have fixed bonuses to their rolls depending on their stage, based on their weapon. Lieutenants get +2, Captains get +3, Generals get +4. All Negaverse senshi can lure youma to them. All they have to do is reach into their chest cavity and hold out their starseed. This is mega extra dangerous, but some people are stupid and other people have plans. Quote Strickenized when this happens. All Captains and Generals can command youma, but it only works on certain youma. Roll 1d10; if a Captain's roll is 8, 9, or 10, the youma will obey them. If a General's roll is an odd number, the youma will obey them. Quote Strickenized when this happens. All Leaders will have a special leadership ability. These will be posted in their respective threads.
REMEMBER: Only one action per post! A General cannot command a youma to serve them while stabbing it in the face!

PART 2: PREPARATIONS
SIESTA TIME
No, really. They found the monster, so it's time for the planners to plan, the injured to get seen to, and the fighters to rest up. There'll be tents and hot food and shift sleeping. And PRPs, too, if you want them!
Be sure to thank Taenite for the hot food, because Faustite was gonna let everyone eat cold cans of beans.

PART 3: VENI VIDI VICI
BRING YOUR BEST FIGHT SONG
The setup for part 3 is determined by part 1. Whichever team finds the youma first brings their advantage to the party!
For this fight, everyone will be back up to full health and full uses of magic. Please refer to Part 1 if you need to refresh on dice rolls and HP tallies!
Part 3 is a boss fight, and the only part where only IC minutes pass between prompts (prompts will still be every 24 hours). This fight is not a typical tank n' spank. There's a secret to fighting this boss, and the boss has a few clever tricks. Make sure you are able to receive PMs from me, because if your character gets rolled in a certain attack, I will be sending you some instructions!
Part 3 will not allow for PRPs while it is active, but anyone can write PRPs after part 3 is officially wrapped.
Once it's over, if your character participated in all parts and you don't have unfilled posts, your character will receive a new permanent accessory, to be declared at the end of the event!

YOUMA FRIENDS
THE REAL TREASURE WAS THE FRIENDS WE MADE ALONG THE WAY
Quote:
Youma Revenant Appearance: Revenant looks like a nutria, but is missing its tail. A hole exists where that tail should be, and Salthiss often lives inside. Use: Revenant was one of the guides that took the teams across the Rift and out to the Scar. Revenant also carried with it some light fare -- some canned foods mostly, and a few spare tools. Revenant waited outside of the Scar with Salthiss to reunite with the teams.
Quote:
Youma Salthiss Appearance: Salthiss looks like a viper with thorny bone protrusions coming out of its skull. It frequently acts as Revenant's tail. Use: Salthiss was one of the guides that took the teams across the Rift and out to the Scar. Salthiss produces antivenin and venom -- and helped fend off some pricky youma on the way there.
Quote:
Youma Obë Appearance: Obë appears to be a stocky, long-haired horse with faces in its flanks. Its tail drags on the ground behind its shaggy hooves. Use: Being a feral youma, Obë isn't much for conversation. It functions as the group's pack horse, and carries a surprising number of tents and sleeping bags, both on its back and in its many mouths.
Quote:
Youma Mucus Appearance: Mucus looks like an enormous blob of mucus. It has a face in there, but that face elongates and smashes up as it oozes around. It's a dirty green. Use: Mucus, like Obë, is a feral pack mule for the group. Canned goods and other dietary items are kept packed in plastic bags that float around in Mucus's center. Occasionally it belches them out, and one of the Lieutenants has to feed them back into the creature. It is thus a good motivator to never be at the back of the groups.

PRIZES
EVERYBODY NEEDS A WIN
Each part 1 thread participant has the chance to receive a crown token, provided they posted at least once in that thread. The raffle will occur in this thread, using an alphabetized and rank-sorted list of participants.
1 crown token for Interrogation, to be raffled off. 1 crown token for Tracking, to be raffled off. 1 crown token for Combat, to be raffled off.
Part 3 awards a permanent accessory. To qualify, a character must respond to all prompts in parts 1 and 3, and post at least once in part 2 (or in the Cache, if they ended up there).
Quote:
Rugose Pendant - A blackened, wrinkled rock set into a silver pendant with an indigo glow trapped inside. It can be found discarded in Negaspace or the Rift. To use the item, an agent or Negaverse senshi must energy drain the rock. Once drained, the rock will crack and disintegrate. The rock's violet light will then envelop the user, cloaking them in the appearance of a youma. A youma aura will overwhelm the user's natural aura, though it will not disguise their aura. Their youma appearance must adhere to youma guidelines for personal or player youma. The user does not gain any special abilities while under the effects of the item, and their current abilities are not typically hampered by the item. The Rugose Pendant's effects last until the character powers down or until 3 hours have passed, whichever is sooner. The Pendant may be used once a day.
