There was something about bookstores that drew Angel in. There was an air to them, a sort of liminal space, when walking between the stacks and being lost in a world, that was broken only by the sudden screaming child two rows over. She jumped, loosing the place she'd gotten to in the dissertation of ghosts she'd been reading. She was not against a good bump in the night - when you could patrol the streets and cast magic, a bump in the night was common place. The shrill voices of children were entirely different.
"...At least try to keep your child under control..." she muttered under her breath, closing the book she'd been purusing and placing it back on the shelf. It was substantive, but ultimately followed a series of flawed theories about the astral plane. Each of those were debunked easily enough when you applied the theories of time relativity on top of it.
Not exactly the curious new viewpoints she was looking for.
Ain sighed and continued looking through the books, occasionally pulling one from the shelf to read the back. Or grimace at the particular author. "How have they not been taken off print lists with their bogus theories..." Bell Book and Candle had a wide selection, though she'd not made it in before today. They even had a bookstore cat. All they really needed was a good cafe and perhaps a fireplace, and Angel could spend several hours pouring over different occult theories.
Speaking of the cat, she knew there was one, but hadn't seen it as of yet. Probably off being a cat. Sleeping and all that. Angel pulled another book off the shelf about crystals and began to puruse it.tatterpixie Let me know if I should edit anything!

Napping was the primary job of a bookstore cat, though for Pyewacket he felt his job was also to monitor who came in and out of the bookstore. One never knew, after all, if or when a potential senshi who needed to be awakened would wander in. Besides, people were interesting! Especially the people who frequented an occult book shop like Bell, Book and Candle. Today, though, he was napping in the herbal supply section of the store, surrounded by all the different scents of the fresh and dried herbs they carried for spell work. Or at least trying to nap, as the occasional shriek of a small child kept waking him up. "Bother," he muttered to himself, finally surrendering and making his way to the book shelves. The store was surprisingly busy today, which was good -- more cat treats for him! -- and he wound through the aisles checking the clientele out. Coming upon the screeching child, he made a point of approaching it and pretending to sniff. "Kitty!!' the child squealed gleefully, which caused him to retreat with deliberate intent. Screaming children didn't get to pet the kitty! As the child began wailing again and its parent got the stink-eye from most of the other patrons, Pyewacket trotted down another aisle, where a young woman was perusing one of the books on crystals. She seemed interesting to him… quite interesting. Slowly he wound himself around her legs, magnificent blue-grey plume of a tail raised. "There are better books on the uses of crystals than that one," he murmured quietly, just loud enough to be heard, and he looked up at her to see her reaction.

Talking cats were not particularly surprising, given Angel's line of work, but she wasn't exactly used to talking cats in a bookstore. Angel looked down at the blue-grey kitty curl around her legs and look up at her. Huh. A guardian perhaps? Unless cats normally got the ability to speak without becoming a guardian.
She pursed her lips in a smile and crouched down, reaching out to let the kitty sniff her.
"You don't say, hm? And what is a guardian doing in a bookstore?" asked Angel, voice quiet so only the cat could hear her. She ran her fingers through his fur, scratching gently between his ears and under his chin with her nails.

Pyewacket closed his eyes contentedly as the woman scritched his head and under his chin. Fingernails were so nice. "Same as any cat who lives in a bookstore, except I get a lot more reading in," he purred at her with a chuckle. "And astrology! And I concoct herbal spell blends for the store, though they don't know it's me doing it." He flicked his tail in a self-satisfied way. "The owners are a bit… scattered, I suppose is the polite term. Why, if it wasn't for me, they wouldn't know what half their inventory was!" The Mauvian rubbed against her leg again, then began to stroll toward the back door. "Would you like to see where I work? It's a rather nice setup, I must say -- it's private, for one, big enough for a human to fit. I can do your horoscope, if you like, as well."

Angel chuckled and continue to scratch as he spoke, before began to wander off. "That sounds quite lovely, actually. Lead the way little kitty," she said, standing up from her crouch to follow him. It wasn't often she had an opportunity to have a cat read her horoscope - actually, she was sure she'd never get another chance like this. She wondered how the cat made it work for him, as well as how his horoscopes or tarot differed from human horoscopes.
To be quite honest, the fact that a guardian was doing horoscopes at all was bloody amazing and she would be insane to not that this moment.
She wandered after him, suddenly very excited for this. Good thing she checkout the bookstore today, huh?
