"spam spam spam spam spam!" Look on Allakazham at the "funny macro thread" are you will see a ton of people with their heads in their asses flaming away that macros are "spam spam spam spam spam!" neglecting the fact that FFXI is a "game game game game game!" If you're not having fun playing a game ~ why play it >.< ? I think macro sayings are sometime hilarious and I really enjoy reading the funny ones ^^ "We have enough things to read in the chat log without having to read macro sayings" Well now ~ if is often necessary to have a macro line /p To let the pt know what you are up to No more spam is created by adding /p Yawa .::. Yawa eats you! to the macro.. is it now? think about it dummies.
Next of all ~ everyones favourite pulling macros: /p Pulling from get ready! Generally, when someone is pulling there is little/nothing in the chat log that you really need to know... you are waiting on your next mob. So adding /p Pulling from /wait 1 /p *pulls up top and flashes the * come and get me! Does not spam up your messages at all >.<
"Macro sayings get *really* annoying *very* quickly"
Poo to that ~ if it's annoying you ~ not one is actually asking you to read it. As long as the macro saying have the important information clearly stated, there is absolutely no reason for you to read the rest of it. And ~ if they really annoy you ~ you are clearly too uptight XD
Furthermore, although you might party with the same person for several hours, or several times, no one is asking you to marry them. And if you *are* marrying someone you think has annoying macros ~ maybe you should reconsider XD My point being ~ you are not really with these people long enough for the macros to give you nightmares right? XD
/p HOO HA it's a combo attack! (macro by Threed ~ makes me giggle every time i read it XD)
.....please post your own opinions ~ ^^ i am happy to hear them ^^ Funny macros that you have seen are also loved ^^

Sure creative macros are fun/silly for the first few levels, but once you're up in the 60's/70's - they become really annoying.

Well, I think that if by the time you reach level 60-70 you had better have a sence of humor. If you are really getting that annoyed by little things people tack on to their macros, you are taking the game way to seriously. I personally don't have any extra text on my macros, but I think it is funny when people do add things to them. It brings out the personality of the character and makes partying a whole lot more fun... in my opinion.

If you want to be cute with your macros, put all the lines of text that you want in /echo. In the meanwhile, please don't spam with unecessary silliness.

i say put the silly macros in a seperate set then then the regular, then use them from time to time when it gets quiet, cause when you keep on useing a funny line over and over, it tends to geet dull...

personally i don't like spammy macros sad
i concentrate on the chatlog, and i can SEE when someone provokes, the extra /party chat line is spam to me =/ and those /p curing lines.... omg.. i reallllyy don't care >.< just cure!!
the only /party chat lines that i WANT to see are skillchains, pulls, notices, TP reports...
i might sound like no fun, or take my game too seriously, but adding funny sayings is just not for me.. and i hate reading through it all.. and if your playing with japanese players... >.> just stick to the point and make the exp smooth ^^;
i find myself teaching tanks again and again how to use the /echo feature
incase anyone reading this also wants to know, here's how it works... ----- ok so your main goal is to provoke every 30 seconds right? well so much goes on in the pt it's hard to judge when 30 seconds is up and it's time to voke agian. so u usually make a macro like this right?
/ja "Provoke" /p Provoking ! /wait 15 /p Provoke ready in 15 seconds. /wait 15 /p Provoke ready!
>.>............... ok so for some PT set ups having the 15 second notice is helpful.. but the rest of that is spam.. we can already see in the chatlog that you are voking the mob, can hear it too! there is NO need for a in your provoke macro!!! SERIOUSLY crying ;; and we don't need to know that your provoke is ready, YOU need to know. so this is what you do!!!~
/ja "Provoke" /wait 15 /echo provoke ready in 15 seconds. /wait 15 /echo provoke ready!
echo messages are yellow lines that ONLY YOU can ready. not the PT. so now you get all the info you need and are not annoying other PT members ^^;~! super!
ps: i talk a lot in my PTs. i have great conversations with people, my parties are almost always fun ^^; I just don't care for macros that repeat themselves over and over, they are usually far far more confusing than they are funny anyways ^^;

Snow Angel: Surely you can appreciate that not all of the /p chat lines in macros are necessary for you to know ~ however the chances are that *someone* is reading them. As someone who normally plays tank ~ a whm: /p I Cure is not too relevant to me ~ but I can appreciate that another mage (a rdm or a whm) might find these useful to prevent wasting MP and curing the same person twice needlessly. I would, however, want to read if /p Curaga hapened, because that's my signal to attempt to draw all hate possible before the whm dies ^^;
The same with a provoke line ~ but provoke lines are even more inportant since a) the tank loses hate to the blm, the blm must stop nuking. When /p Provoke You Evil Monster! appears the blm knows that he may continue casting. b) this is also useful for secondary tanks and vokers ~ when mobs go for a mage there is usually general confusion (half the mele chasing after the mob, half staying still waiting for the next voke) it is not always possible to "see" the provoke animation (not to mention lag and other disadvantages of relying on the animations). A /p Provoke ! Raaahhh! is useful to know who is going to get the hate, so the mele can reposition themsevles around the mob ^^ (this is especially important with a thf in the PT ~ because the SATA setups tend to be quite fiddly)
Eugh ~ a ton of other points but I'm in a rush to leave so ~ I guess i'll stop my ranting there ^^ 3nodding
take care now~ xx

Dakinn The thing is, most people who add cute or roleplaying lines in their macros either a) horribly butcher the english language b) sound incredibly inept and lame or c) add annoying calls that piss everyone in the pt off. >.< that is a horrific generalisation ~ I have "cute macro sayings" ~ my language is fine ~ I do not add any s ~ and as for whether they are lame or not; I have had several compliments and never a complaint.
That's not to say that everyone is like this ~ but n00bs are n00bs ~ if they have n00bish macros, then they more than likely play in a n00bish way /p Voke ist ere ~ die monster! but many FF players are little kids *^.^* (the youngest in our LS is 10 ~ she is a charming, intelligent girl, and we forgive her slips in spelling/grammer quite happily ^^) How could you forgive youself if you flamed a young child for their bad grammer and unsophisticated macros o.O ! crying

isn't the age agreement for ffxi 18?
so many people are called n00bs and yet the truth is, they are just Young
yea i forgot about AOE party buffs.. i got macros for all those xd
/p (Gather Together) (Casting spell) (Protectra) * * <(*'-') /ma "Protectra"
I have an rather than a /wait, so i can just judge when ppl are in range and start casting... and lookie, i got a little smily face xd ! I guess i do add some fun to my macros too xd

personally, i don't have Macros on my songs, besides the ones i rarely use. only because they're going off every 5 seconds, and i don't want to fill up my Chat log rapidly ^^;
i've only got three macros:
Magic Finale: /p , you've caught the curtain call! {Magic} {Finale}! /ma "Magic Finale"
Soul Voice: /p Let's Amp it up, and give my songs a kick! /wait 1 /p {Soul Voice}: The Other Alternative to Amplifiers! /ja "Soul Voice"
