Starlight Cookies and Moonlight Milk (4) : A new shop has opened up, just in time for the Star Festival! It doesn’t have anything on the menu except for Starlight Cookies and Moonlight Milk, but they are the talk of the town! Everyone who’s anyone has tried them, and without a doubt, they’re the most delicious things that they’ve ever tasted! Though...the reviews don’t mention that after you've had any, your eyes begin to glow strangely and sparkle like little galaxies are swirling within them. It’s beautiful, if a little strange! The effect fades after an hour, and your vision isn’t impacted...though, if you go to try the cookies again, the shop seems to have disappeared…
If there was one thing that Jacques would never understand it’s why his mother didn’t hire someone to pick things up for her. Instead, he would be at the house, working on some sort of pot or cup or mug or reading up on interior decorating websites and suddenly he was told that he would have to go out somewhere and pick something up with his mother.
And he would have to do it on foot. Because apparently, he wasn’t trusted with any of the cars that they had, even if he had never gotten into a single accident before. It was why he was grumbling as he walked towards the weird new shop that had opened. Apparently, they only sold some cookies and milk and that was it. Nothing else. No tea, coffee, other sweets or whatever. But his mother had been told that it was the talk of the town and that she must try some of them, so she had sent Jacques on a mission to go and grab some for her.
He made sure to grumble the entire way there and wasn’t very happy when he had to stand in line for a couple of hours just to get some. Eventually he was able to get them, but he was so annoyed with having to do the errand in the first place that he didn’t even try any of them until after he had gotten home. And even then, it had taken some prompting by his mother to do so after she had eaten one or two herself.
He sighed and did as his mother asked, taking one and… finding it was delicious! What he didn’t expect though was what happened to his eyes and while he could admit that the cookies were good, he wasn’t sure if he wanted to continue to eat something that made it look like his eyes were leaking radioactive waste. It was pretty, to be sure, a contact company could make a good deal of money if they were able to make contacts that did this, but for him it was something he just didn’t want to mess with. Even with encouragement from his mother he decided that there would be no more cookie eating for him. He was a part of the magical shenanigans around the town, so something that altered his eyes, even if was for only an hour, could mean something else was there and he did not want to mess with it.
He left his mother alone to eat the rest of the cookies herself, deciding that he would rather indulge in a bowl of vegetables rather than eat those again. The next day his mother demanded of him once again to go and get more. And with the way she looked she appeared that she had gotten immediately addicted. So, with one more grumbling adventure later, Jacques had made his way to where the shop had been. Only there was no line this time and the shop appeared to have disappeared into thin air. He could only sigh in frustration. Of course, this would happen. That was the problem with eating random foods during these sorts of things. His mother would just have to go without.
