Star Candy (3) : In your mailbox, locker, or desk drawer appears a bag of star candy! There is no indication of where or who it came from other than a small tag that reads: “Happy Star Festival!” The small, colorful pieces of sugar seemed to almost glow faintly, and after eating them, the world looks a bit different. Cartoonish and much less…real. Is it a hallucination? Is it some new reality? The strange vision lasts only half an hour, and after it wears off, the rest of the candy seems to disappear. How strange!

It was still in the middle of the Star Festival and Jacques had decided to spend that time… at home. At least while his mother was away. She had randomly decided to go on some vacation, probably to meet someone that she had been talking to online, and he was left alone in the house while she was gone.

Wonderful.

And so he had been stuck at the house for a few days before going through his routine and enjoying the house without his mother being there. Sometimes he wondered if he should live on his own, even if that would cost money. His mother would be willing to pay for it so he didn’t really have to get a job, but there wouldn’t be as much space as he had here in the mansion. And it wouldn’t have a place for him to work on his ceramics.

And so, he was stuck here for now, and sighed when he went to go and get the mail, not noticing a bag had been with one of the batches of mail that he had picked up until the day after. When he did, he was sure that it was a present for his mother as there would be no one who should be giving gifts to him, at least that knew him. If people decided to randomly hand gifts to him, he would be more than happy to take them, but considering the number of gifts that his mother received almost on a daily basis, it was more than likely hers.

But she wasn’t in the house, and he hadn’t had one of them before, so why not just take one? It couldn’t hurt after all.

When he popped it into his mouth it was as though the world had become less… real. Colors were more solid, there wasn’t as much depth to things as there should have been, and whatever the couch was now made of, he decided to take the chance of laying on it to see if the images that he was now seeing would go away at some point. What the h*** were in these candies anyway? Had they been poisoned? That was the only explanation that he could think of as the images continued to assault his eyes. All he could do is close them for a moment, hoping that they would quickly go away.

For half an hour he was on the couch, desperately trying to ignore the rising anxiety that he felt as the images persisted and the various things that they could be symptoms of. None of which he wanted to think about considering how bad they were, but eventually the images went away and when he looked at the bag to immediately throw them away as no one else should consume them ever he couldn’t find them. He looked all around the room, attempting to see if he had put them somewhere else but they weren’t found. He sighed. Well, as long as no one else could eat them, he was fine with that!
