Out in the stable, Teagan stood with her arms crossed and her face twisted in a deep pout. Part of her chores was mucking out the stables, but one stable resident was being rather cross with her attempt. A young sermal was crouched and baring its fangs, favoring the foreleg that was firmly wrapped. "I gotta clean out your poo, you dumb thing," she scolded sharply, only to get hissed at again. Maybe a honeyed approach? "Come on! Aunt Tali's gonna be sad if she sees you being like this. You know she wants you gettin' better." The sermal was unmoved, and Teagan went back to glaring. "You're being a jerk."

Katori was finally home. The young woman yawned as she spotted the familiar shape of her family's manor nestled along the edges of Zena. How long had she been traveling now? Six months this time? Her ride alone from Sauti into Zena had felt like years instead of one day. She was definitely beat and ready to nap. "I probably should set you up with some food too, Star." Murmured Katori as she patted the horned beast's velvety neck. No one said she was the most creative with names but at least the specks along his pelt did remind one of stars.
Katori arrived at the entrance in time to hear some hissing and the mage tilted her head thoughtfully as she listened again. What was this? A small smile crossed her lips as she walked forward until she was leaning over her younger cousin to look at the sermal. "Such an accusation. Is he really being that bad?" She teased lightly as she looked back down towards Teagan.

Hearing approaching steps, the youngling huffed sharply. Now she was going the look bad for not getting this done... Yet, it wasn't her aunt! Teagan's expression lit up when she realized who her company was. "Katori!" She leapt over to wrap her arms around her cousin, just as happy to see her as she was relieved that it wasn't anyone else. "It is that bad," she insisted, turning to glare accusingly at the sermal. "I have to clean out the stall, but he won't move! He's just sitting there growling and hissing and being mean." She looked up at Katori desperately. "Can you help?"

A grin crossed Katori's lips as her cousin clung to her and the mage quickly shifted her position so that she could hug Teagan and not lose her balance. "Aww. I've had my fair share of that. " She commented with amusement as she thought of her own personal experiences with animals and earthlings both. "Maybe..." Katori pursed her lips teasingly as she glanced at the sermal. "He might be too vicious even for me." She started before glancing around. Did they have treats maybe to entice him? She could pick him up but he definitely wouldn't be able happy camper.

"Too vicious for you?" she echoed back with wide eyes. That didn't seem possible! She looked at the irritated creature a moment and finally nodded. "He did swat at me at first. Now he's just growling and making noise." She pursed her lips and looked back up at Katori. "Why does it want a dirty stall over just coming out here for a minute? It doesn't take long to clean. Even I clean my own room without complaining as much, and he's not even doing the cleaning!"

"Well we'll see what I can do." Promised Katori with a small smile. Her playful expression shifted as she became more somber and gave a nod after listening to Teagan. "Well sometimes even if it doesn't make sense the fear that others feel make them do irrational things." She began quietly before turning and searching through some nearby shelves. "Since he's injured it's more likely that he's just wary of being harmed again. You have good intentions but building trust to prove that is tough when the other party has already been hurt so much before." Katori stood on her tiptoes and managed to knock down a small bag into her hands. It was nice knowing her mother still kept things around in the same places. Katori untied the strings so that she could peek inside. "Perfect."
Crossing back towards Teagan, Katori handed over the bag of treats. "You may not be able to build trust right away but maybe you can entice him to move after these?"

Brow knitting, Teagan's eyes shifted back to the sermal and focused in on the wrapped leg. "But I'm not the one that hurt it," she insisted as she accepted the bag of treats. She reached in to grab a morsel and held it up to inspect. "It shouldn't be afraid of me." Could food really do the trick? Shrugging, Teagan tossed the bite at the sermal. The snack bounced along the ground, and the sermal snarled at it while backing away further. Teagan frowned. "It's just food. You're supposed to eat it," she assured , voice laced with confusion. "Food didn't hurt him.. did it?"

Katori let out a soft sigh. "I see." She murmured quietly as she crouched down and studied the sermal. "Maybe food got it into this mess." Hunters did tend to leave nasty traps especially for a sermal who was wandering too close to any herds or villages. The hybrid studied the defensive feline, her silver gaze gentle as she stared back at the snarling creature. When its amber gaze snapped towards her own the mage quickly averted her gaze before speaking towards Teagan. "So hissing may mean he's feeling uncomfortable with us because he's nervous and scared." A small smile crossed her lips as she looked directly towards the youngling. "Hard to believe, right?" Such a huge scary beast with such sharp fangs and claws was actually afraid of them? Who would have expected it?
She sucked in the corner of her lip, her teeth biting along the inside thoughtfully as she considered their options. There was no way that she would have Teagan try to move the sermal out nor could she drag the feline around without risking a fight herself. "If we don't try to look aggressive then we have to keep our gazes averted. Tossing food may seem more like an attack when we could be leaving it around instead." She offered finally before slowly slinking forward, the growling increasing from the sermal though it thankfully stayed back up against the corner, and a few treats slipped from her fingers along the stall before she calmly backed up some more. When Katori left the stall she closed the door part way and motioned for Teagan to follow her. "Now we wait and see if he is brave enough to try the food while we're not watching." Maybe he would venture out and follow the trail of treats into the other stall once he had enough time to adjust?

At least that part was something Teagan could work out. Traps were often laid with food to entice the prey, and she had been told the sermal was found with its paw caught in a trap. "I believe it," she replied with a shrug. "Papa said I was scary once, and he's a lot bigger than me." Something told her she should have been more concerned about the large feline.. but the context made it more annoying than anything else.
The youngling snorted slightly as she followed after her cousin. "How do I know what it's doing if I don't look at it?" she questioned, gaze going back to the sermal. The feline growled at the eye contact, so Teagan broke off again and went to get out of the way with Katori. She could still see into the stall just enough, and spotted the sermal paw at the morsel of food it was closest to. Otherwise, it continued watched the door and waited. "Will it take long?"

A chuckle escaped Katori. "I can believe your Papa would say such a thing." Her uncle was such a silly man sometimes that it was hard to envision him as a strong mystic. Katori could only shake her head in amusement as she imagined him saying such a thing. "I'm sure your Papa just has a fear of most females in our family which is a smart move on his part." Between his wife and her mother....well Katori was surprised he had survived all the way until now indeed. Apparently most of the men in the family had to be careful since they had such strong and intimidating women in their lives.
Katori simply patted the ground next to her to invite Teagan to sit down. "It might take a bit. We just have to really practice our patience here and listen for him." She leaned against the stall and closed her eyes for a moment, simply listening for the sermal to move around. There was a rustling in the hay and a slight munching sound before more silence again. Eventually she'd hear another rustling sound and a small smile crossed her lips. "Soon." She whispered towards Teagan as her gaze slowly lifted to peek around the corner.

Head cocking slightly, Teagan thought over her cousin's observation before nodding. From what she could tell, the women in her family were all strong-willed and fierce. She was pretty sure everyone was scared of her mama at least a little. She wanted to be just like her mama when she grew up!
Growing up was a long way off yet though. Right now, she was still getting chores and waiting for this sermal to calm down. She sat next to Katori and let her head fall back against the wall, copying her cousin's posture. What else was there to do while practicing being patient? She could hear more crunching from within the stall eventually, perking up as the rustling drew closer. A low growl sounded from beyond sight, but that was followed by more crunching. "I think it's working," she whispered as quietly as she could.

"I think so too." Agreed Katori with a quiet chuckle, her hand drifting up towards her lips to try and muffle the noise as more crunching ensued. It appeared mister sermal was more hunger than frightened at this point and she just hoped he continued going all the way into the other stall so that they could quietly shut the door behind him. "Just a bit more and then you'll have to sneak and close that behind him." She whispered towards Teagan as one tentative paw emerged from the current stall. Soon enough the full sermal would appear and upon spotting more of the treats he would slowly crouch down and dart forward to sweep it up with a paw and into his mouth. Katori grinned as he started to look around, his gaze darting about before landing on the final piece that was in the center of the other stall.
And there we go~

Lips pressing quietly, Teagan slowly leaned forward to see if she could grab a peek of the sermal. She couldn't help smiling when she saw the sleek figure slinking around to follow the trail Katori had placed. Her butt wiggled slightly, like a predator preparing to pounce, watching eagerly. The moment she heard the crunch of the final treat, she grinned and ran forward, slamming the stall shut. "Got you!" she crowed victoriously, wincing just a little when the young sermal about jumped out of its fur with surprise. "Sorry.." Still, she looked over to Katori with a big grin. "It worked!"
Wait..... now she had to go back to working. She sighed and plucked up the rake. "Will you stay and keep me company? How was your trip?"

A laugh escaped Katori's lips as she watched the scene with Teagan and the sermal. The poor thing probably was all floofed from the surprise! At least he wasn't hurt so hopefully he wouldn't hold it against them that they had tricked him into another stall. "It did." She finally managed with a grin. "Now all you have to do is visit him with his food every day until he forgives you for it." The mage teased with a wink before shifting so that she could stand again. She pursed her lips as if pondering her response before finally giving in with a nod. "Sure."
"It was good but not too terribly exciting this time. I brought back a couple of capramel that a Sauti herder didn't have much hopes for. I'm hoping they recover quickly so we can get some fresh milk for the winter months." Mused Katori as she glanced about thoughtfully. "How are things holding up here? I'm surprised I caught you before your parents whisked away to some other part of Tendaji again." She did enjoy teasing them about how they seemed to drift in and out of the sanctuary. Though that seemed to be the whole family thing with everyone coming and going, including even her and Taaru, while their mother seemed to be the only constant in the place nowadays.

Teagan gave a half-hearted grunt. Despite living at an animal sanctuary, Teagan found herself less than enthusiastic about working with the animals. If she was the one who ended up putting the sermal back into the other stall, she would probably just use the same trick...
The mention of the capramel did perk her up though. "Mmm, milk," she cooed. Animals did have their uses. "Oh, yeah, we're sticking around a bit longer because Kuno brought a girl home." She paused a moment and chuckled. "Well, not a girl girl, according to them. She's staying to study magic from papa's books and be a midwife. A midwife works with babies, but we don't have any babies for her here, so she's focusing on the magic here. I guess it'll be a bit before we go anywhere again."
