Quote: It was already late in the evening but the merchant seemed unfazed by the passing of time. He sat, poised and elegant, watching the world around him. He didn’t seem bored but he sat, fingers laced atop the table; below it, he kept his toe tapping to some silent tune in his head. He was tall, by human standards, though while sitting down he didn’t seem particularly threatening. If you didn’t look at his face. He had graceful features--sharp and refined. His chin and nose tapered to a point, giving him an air of sophistication, but that, combined with his slitted eyes and pointed teeth, there was something undeniably predatory about him. He watched with a hungry gaze and a mischievous, nearly sinister smile. His ears were pointed and were prominent despite being tucked behind his vibrant, multi-colored hair. The most intrusive feature that indicated there was something not human about him were the curling horns protruding from his temples and the oil-slick black scales that brushed his cheeks and forehead. He was well dressed, in a fashion obviously otherworldly, and seemed to enjoy dressing himself up in glistening gemstones. His tables were somehow both simple and overwhelming; each table was draped with a dark purple tablecloth, all with extravagant embroidery in different designs. Scattered neatly atop the tables were an array of items that seemed to carry some magical weight to them. He did not seem intimidated in the slightest and, upon noticing that the barrier surrounding him rippled to allow his visitor to pass, he smiled. He did not rise to meet them nor adjust his position in the slightest. He followed them with his fierce eyes and greeted, in a silky voice, “Welcome.” She wasn't sure what she should have expected when she managed to finally, supposedly, find the landing site of the giant meteor, but some sort of weird bubble hadn't been what she thought she would see. Apparently there were definitely aliens, and not just Senshi from outer space. Great. This was the second time that she was coming out here. The first one there had been a sign that a shop was "closed". What shop could possibly be doing business through a giant meteor was something that she had wanted no part in. Unfortunately Chambersite had heard about it and had told her she needed to go investigate. Usually something weird happened with these sorts of things and well, he didn't want to go. So now she was doing the dirty work for him. Awesome. She was now having second thoughts about having joined the Negaverse considering that she kept being ordered around by those who were younger than her. She was starting to feel like an old maid around them and she wondered when she would start a cat collection to match her apparent grandma age within the Negaverse. This time though she managed to make it through the... bubble and stumbled upon... well what looked like a run-down pawnshop. But worse. Sure, the tablecloths looked kind of fancy and the stuff on them looked fancy too but it was so... unorganized. Not that she could say anything out loud if some of her old coding had anything to say about it. She raised an eyebrow when he, she assumed it was a he, greeted her. "Uh, hi." She said in response, not really sure what she was supposed to be doing here. "So do you usually use a giant meteor to crash into the planet just to sell... stuff?"

The merchant raised a brow. “On the contrary, no. This was actually a rather unfortunate incident that I’d really prefer not to repeat. But you’re lucky I’m not very self-conscious, bringing up something like that might hurt someone’s feelings.” He smiled pleasantly still. “It’s not ‘stuff’, I only carry treasures. Of the highest quality, mind you. Come closer, come take a peek. I’m in the business of trading rather than ‘selling’. Currency is so,” he clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth as he searched for the word, “ Fickle. Everyone thinks their dollar’s worth more than another. So the only consistent value I can find comes from bartering. I do hope you’ve brought something to trade me? I’ve a sign out front, I’m sure you saw it. Have you seen any cute little glowing balls of light floating around? I’m rewarding, handsomely, for their return to me.”

She decided not to show any reaction on her face. She felt as though she could yell at him but something was telling her that he appeared to be much more powerful. More than she could handle alone at least. For now she would do as he said about the crashing incident. "Alright then." She said blandly as she took a step forward and took a quick look at the "treasures". She still wouldn't say that anything looked that valuable, but clearly this merchant, who decided that crashing a meteor would be the best way to announce his presence, did. She looked at him when he talked about the glowing balls and then reached for the one that she had put away into sub-space. "You mean one of these? Any idea why they decided to suddenly pop up around here?" She asked as she held it in her hand. She wouldn't just hand it over to him, there was no reason to do so so easily. Even if the ball meant nothing to her.

His eyes were immediately on the orb and he wanted it. He smiled politely as he tore his gaze from it so he could meet her gaze again. “Yes,” he said simply. “Before I landed on Earth, they were all one piece--like they’re supposed to be. But, fragile as some things are, when I landed, they--along with several other treasures of mine--broke. They’re among my most prized possessions, and they really aren’t meant to be separated. The results could be catastrophic when manhandled, so I really need to get them back together quickly. Which, is why I’m so desperate to make trades now. Quickly.” He let out a wistful sigh and gestured for her to bring the wisp closer. "I’m sure I can find something to make it worth your while. What are you interested in? Shiny things? Weapons?” He brushed his fingers over a stack of books next to him, and the spines of one of them seemed to spark to light as if the lettering was lined with LEDs. A Mercury symbol flashed to life for a split second, but when he removed his fingers everything dulled again. “Old books?”

Eveite gave him a look that said "sure, they were definitely yours" but didn't say anything. But she did decide to take a closer tlook at the books that he had lightly touched. Shiny things and weapons, while the latter would have been an improvement over her own currently, she was much more interested in information. And if the books weren't fiction, then there might be something that she could learn about something out there in space. She didn't know what exactly, but anything was better than nothing. The book with the flashing lettering had caught her attention. "What about that book?" She said, pointing at the one that had had the Mercury symbol on it. If she could get her hands on that book, maybe she could learn something about Mercury Knights. Not that she had ever run into one. She still held the wisp in her hand, away from the Merchant who so desperately wanted it. If she was going to do a trade, then she wanted to make sure it happened correctly and that he wasn't just conning her.

“Oh?” he prompted, and reached to pull it out from the stack. When he touched it, the lettering again lit up. Carefully, he pulled it out and flipped it open. There were a few sketches, clearly ancient locations in Mercury, though the font was completely unreasonable. The foreign language was beautiful, and as he trailed his fingers across the page, the lettering lit up, just as it did on the spine. It looked as if there was some technology within the pages to give it that effect. There were pictures every few pages, of different structures, or artifacts, or gadgets. It was unclear what the book was actually supposed to be; there were no blueprints, or maps, or any information that was discernible in any way--but it was beautiful, and a unique combination of magical and technological. “You can take a look,” he said, and passed it over for inspection.

Eveite took the book, a little hesitantly considering the circumstances and what the... alien was. But she decided that the book probably wouldn't explode in her face and she opened it up to flip through a few of the pages. It was interesting. While she wasn't much of an engineer or robotic inventor, the sketches were still interested and hinted that there were different kinds of technology out there, ones not even yet thought of here on Earth. Unfortunately she couldn't understand a word of any of the symbols and unless she had her own Rosetta stone, it would most likely be impossible without having any of the words or symbols translated. And she really didn't want to spend the time trying. It wasn't too surprising, the book was from an alien after all. She closed it and looked at the alien. "If the wisp is all you want, I'll take this in exchange." She said, moving the wisp over to him. She didn't care what happened with it afterwards. "This is enough for me."

The merchant brightened almost immediately and reached for the wisp. “Oh, wonderful. Good deal, then. For the both of us. Thank you very much.” He eagerly accepted it and withdrew an extremely ornate chalice that could have easily doubled as an extravagant candy dish, complete with stem and lid. The crystal bowl was cut with many facets that all perfectly seemed to capture and accentuate the light inside. Atop of the clear crystal, an ornate silver lid encrusted with what looked to be a giant diamond in the center. It had a large silver stem and a beautiful, sturdy base with a few more gemstones embedded within it. A few wisps danced around inside already, and he scooped hers in with them before tucking the dish back beneath his table. “Are you a fan of books of the like?” he prompted, and since he meant not to keep her for longer than she wanted to be there, he continued, “If I find anymore, perhaps I can bring them back for you. If you find anything interesting between now and then, you should hold onto it. I’m always looking to make a good exchange.”

At least the wispy thing wasn't with her anymore. She was sure that if it was she would have forgotten about it, reached into subspace one day, and be surprised at it existing in there. It appeared that she hadn't been the only one, but whether this was the place to actually... give them back to was something she didn't have the time to stand around and investigated. "More the technology. But books that are technology and magic related would be of interest to me." She said in reply. "I'll... keep you in mind next time you come around then." She said, wondering if he really did come around that often. Or if she would ever see him again. "I hope you manage to find all of your wisps then. And thanks for the book once again." She said, before giving him a wave and walking out of the dome-bubble. For some reason he gave her chills and she wasn't sure why. But maybe they would meet again and they would be able to have a... longer conversation. For right now though, she would be taking this book back to her home and studying it for a bit. The Space Cauldron That's an end from me! Thank you for the rp!
