The Calling (7) : A beautiful melody drift on the air from somewhere far away. The vocals are in a language you don’t quite recognize, but feel somehow familiar to you. Something about the song calls to you, but no matter where you go, the song seems to sound the same distance away. The longer it goes on, the more emotional the song becomes--and the more emotional you become. Something about the song is possessive and consuming, like it’s all you can think of. Something resonates in you as the song crescendos, and the feeling is at its strongest--be they good, bad, anything, but suddenly the song fades, and there’s only an emptiness inside of you. The feeling of loss is strong, and can leave someone feeling emotionally numb. Someone out there was calling to you, and you couldn’t find them.

Stepping out of the gym Larkin ignored the slight n** in the air, it was nearing midnight so a bit of a chill in the air wasn’t unexpected. It might be summer but it was still late and there was still that n** in the air at this hour. Larkin rather liked the chill in the air, he wasn’t a fan of the almost oppressive heat of the summer. It was one of the reasons he preferred the fall, though there were many reasons, he couldn’t wait for the smell of fireplaces and the crisp chill in the air along with colorful leaves dancing in the air. Fall was the best time of the year, and he wasn’t in the slightest bit bias.

He was planning to start stalking about online for Halloween decorations, and decor, soon but not yet. It would be hard to find anything for Halloween this early in the year, though he knew etsy wouldn’t let him down entirely. He also knew he had time and he could stockpile things as the months went on.

While walking across the parking lot to his car, taking the time to glance up at the parking lot lights, he could hear something in the air. It was words, but he couldn’t make out what they were exactly, like someone had turned on a radio across the parking lot and had their windows open. Looking about he couldn’t spot any such car so where the music was coming from he didn’t know. But he did follow it, or at least he thought he was following it, he wasn’t entirely sure but his feet were moving and heading in some direction of their own accord.

Larkin was sure he knew the song but he couldn’t place it, something he’d heard once a long time ago perhaps? Maybe something he’d heard in passing in school. Either was a plausible idea and he was sure either was how he knew the tune he heard, and was following. As the song continued, and he continued to follow after it, he felt rather choked up on emotions. He wasn’t sure why, he wasn’t even sure where he knew the song from, but he was sure it tied into something emotional. It had to! Whatever it was though he felt like he wanted to cry but why, what memory was attached to it all, he couldn’t remember he was too focused on the music and how he felt. As he walked across the parking lot, and further from his car, he didn’t notice.

As tears dripped down his face, tracking trails of salty fluid, Larkin stopped and just stared as if the feeling swerve perhaps too much - and maybe they were. But maybe also he was too consumed with them and lost in them...and trying to figure them out and handle them. Whatever it was he seemed to snap out of it and was left feeling utterly drained and empty - hollow. Like he'd’ put in so much energy and now hadn’t any more to give to anything.

Looking around it took time before he spotted his car. “How the hell.” Trailing off he shook his head, too tired to walk to his car but needing to. He slowly started the walk towards his car, all the while wondering what had just happened.

When he did finally get to his car he climbed in and took a moment to collect himself before starting the suv up and heading home, slowly. Yawning as he got closer to home he was nearly dragging his feet as he walked in the front door and headed up to his room, waving to his sister as he passed her by. Yawning again as he went about getting himself ready to bed, wanting to fall asleep in the warm shower but refraining from, he climbed into bed and was out like a light in nearly no time at all. He’d look for Halloween decor and such tomorrow...when he was more awake and had the energy to do so.
