Mero was settling in fairly quickly at the sanctuary. It helped that Kuno’s parents hadn’t been home at first so she could slowly meet extended members of the family before working her way up. She’d already started branching out into the surrounding area in search of magical tutors, as well as midwives she could apprentice under and that naturally wore the young hybrid pretty thin. Most nights she crashed fairly early, which meant she had slept through the return of his family, but an early morning routine assured that she was up with the sun.

With a stifled yawn, Mero padded toward the kitchen with her hair loosely bouncing behind her. After she had breakfast ready for everyone she would work on braiding it and then - Stilling, she lifted her nose and sniffed. Was someone...cooking? Pursing her lips Mero walked into the kitchen and her eyes instantly widened. What in the….?! “Look at this mess!” It was like a storm had torn through the place! She’d been so focused on the sticky counters that she didn’t notice the child at first but when she turned and saw her she stilled.

Spirits above, was it burnt? The girl wasn’t seriously about to eat that, was she? “Who are you?” Mero asked in return. Hand dropping from her hair, the loose waves bounced around her shoulders as she stepped closer to inspect the offered breakfast. There was no hiding the grimace on her features. It likely wouldn’t poison her, but she doubted some of it - most - was cooked properly and might give the child a stomachache.

“Oh, no, that’s alright. I was actually thinking of making omelettes. Do you think you could help me?” Maybe if she could tempt her with something tastier she would forget whatever atrocity that was. Smiling, Mero stepped over toward the counters themselves and had a look around before reaching for the nearest apron. She had her work cut out for her this morning. “My name’s Mero, I’m Kuno’s friend.”

Mero couldn’t hide the smirk that sprang up when Teagan started coughing on her own creation. She was a firm believer in allowing children to experiment however they pleased, even if the results were disastrous, but now that she’d learned a lesson there was no need to suffer any longer.

“I can.” She smiled and went for the eggs...only to have to push through several messes to get there. “But first we’re going to clean up this mess. Tie off the bread and wet a rag to clean up that flour. I can’t make omelettes if I don’t have space to work.” To her own credit Mero had already started to fill the dish pan with water and cleansing powder.

When Mero turned to see what it was Teagan was talking about, her expression completely deadpanned. Seriously? Flicking her wet fingers overtop of the dish pan, Mero wiped them off on her apron to dry before moving closer to the counter. “Just because you pushed it to one side doesn’t make it clean. And look? Now your sleeve is dirty.” Reaching over, Mero gently lifted the girl's arm and clucked her tongue. “Go on then, go change and when you get back I want this counter cleaned properly or no omelette. Got it?”

“Go.” Mero pointed back the way she’d come with the other hand firmly planted on her tiny hip. She may have been a petite little thing, but her tone was as firm as the mountains themselves. If Teagan thought she was going to weasel her way out of this one then she clearly didn’t know just how outmatched she was. “You always clean your surfaces after each dish you prepare so no one gets sick if ingredients cross. And if you’re so worried about your new shirt getting dirty too then roll those sleeves up and it won’t happen.” Clearly seeing the argument as finished, Mero turned back around to the wash pan so she could finish scrubbing the pots.

“Each. Dish.” Mero reiterated. Kuno may not have preached on the proper ways to clean, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t when she was done with him. Oh, here it is. She’d almost wondered how far she could push the kid before she either submitted or threw a tantrum, so Mero was utterly surprised when Teagan lashed out. Pot in hand, Mero made a half turn to watch it all play out. “If you don’t want an omelette that’s fine, that just means I’ll get two, but if you do want one you’ll wear clothes. Set one naked food in this kitchen and I’m putting you outside with the rest of the animals. Then you can explain to your mother what you were doing streaking in the kitchen.” Two could play at the threatening game.

Mero just shook her head with a little laugh. She was already done with most of the pans by the time she heard Teagan belting out to Kuno and her gut reaction was to drop a pot into the water, skin absolutely flushed as water splashed up onto her waist. She resisted the urge to call out that she certainly wasn’t his girlfriend, just a girl that happened to be his friend, but she also didn’t want to be caught yelling in someone else's house. This kid was going to be the death of her!

Once the dishes were taken care of Mero looked over the counter and decided not to touch it. She was doing her job so Teagan could do hers. Instead, she moved over to the table and started the omelette preparations there.
