Quote: Star Candy (3) : In your mailbox, locker, or desk drawer appears a bag of star candy! There is no indication of where or who it came from other than a small tag that reads: “Happy Star Festival!” The small, colorful pieces of sugar seemed to almost glow faintly, and after eating them, the world looks a bit different. Cartoonish and much less…real. Is it a hallucination? Is it some new reality? The strange vision lasts only half an hour, and after it wears off, the rest of the candy seems to disappear. How strange! Emmett nearly rubbed his face clean with an oily rag before he realized what he was about to do and chucked it into the rag bin with a sound of disgust, washing his hands and using a paper towel to wipe down his face. There. That felt better. "Hey, Rónán, you ready to take a break?" he called out, going over to the desk to pull his lunch out of the drawer. A little baggie of candy sat atop his lunch. One he didn't remember. Happy Star Festival! Well, that sounded nice. "I got some candy for us too," he said with an almost chirpy tone.

"Ugh, yes," Rónán groaned, pushing himself out from under the car he was working on and moving over to the sink. There were so many problems with the damn thing he was surprised it was still holding together, but at least fixing it would be a nice payday for the shop.
Still, it meant a lot of work for him, and that meant he was eager to take a little while off working on it.
He washed up and grabbed his lunch out of his work bench, dropping to sit and pull out his simple sandwich and chips. He didn't usually pack anything sweet, but if Emmett wanted to share, he certainly wasn't going to complain. "Huh, nice. Thanks."

Emmett took few pieces from the fairly small bag and slid the bag across the table, down to Rónán. He'd left three pieces for him since there'd only been six in the bag anyway. "Happy Star Fest," he said with a grin, gesturing to it with his water bottle. "Guess they were handing those out or somethin'. No complaints about free stuff, right?" He popped the candies in his mouth, savoring the sweetness, even if they weren't different flavors (which was, quite frankly, kind of disappointing. He liked mixing flavors together like green apple and cherry). What flavor they actually were, though, he couldn't place, but at least it was a pretty sweet one. He started to tear into his lunch, stomach growling, but stopped when he realized his hands... looked... strange. As a matter of fact, so did his food. He blinked hard, trying to clear his eyes of whatever was in them, but nothing changed. He still... seemed to be looking as if he'd put on glasses that turned the world into a comic book. Like that Spiderverse or whatever movie his stupid-a** little brother had loved so much. He scoffed at himself, rolling his eyes, and ate his sandwich in two large bites, figuring he was just hungry and trying to get food in his system as fast as possible. When nothing happened after a moment, he groaned. "Ugh, I think I got some weird s**t in my eyes. Everythin' looks real ********' weird and it's driving me nuts, man. We got one of those, like, chemical eye wash stations around here somewhere, right? ******** it, man, I'll do all the paperwork or whatever as long I can see right again, no matter what the hell's up in there. At least it doesn't hurt, I guess."

Rónán reached into the bag thoughtlessly, popping a candy into his mouth and nodding. "They give out so many freebies during the festival; not surprised one wandered its way to you." It was always an odd time of year, the Star Festival; odd little magical rumors, strange encounters...a good time all around, in his opinion.
The candy was oddly almost-fruity, but not a fruit he could name; if he was honest, he'd expected rock candy, pure unflavored sugar, so any taste at all was nice. He took a second, before opening his lunch bag, and...
Hm. Well. That was odd.
Everything seemed to be in technicolor, bright and strange and just a little left of real.
"Oh, damn it," Rónán said, and then he reached for the bag, pulling out one of the candies and looking closer, then gave a furtive glance around to make sure no one was listening. The cameras didn't have audio, and no one else was nearby--good. Safe. "We do, but it won't help. I'm seeing the same thing, and look," he held out a hand, so that Emmett could see what he saw--namely, that the candy was glowing faintly.
"I'll bet you anything these little ******** are magic. Things like that happen all the time, here, especially around holidays. All kinds of weird events, strange happenings--you remember that weird meteor crash that no one can find any traces of? Probably ******** magic."

Emmett peered at the candy and then groaned, shaking his head. "Ugh, of course," he said, disgusted. "I hope this s**t wears off soon. We got work to do, man. It'll be much harder with this weird eyeball crap going on." He pouted at his baggie of chips before he started eating them with a deep sigh. "This is just not my day, huh?"

Rónán huffed. Truly, Emmett was right: it was not either of their days.
"We don't have any urgent orders, and the boss probably isn't even going to be in today. We'll take a longer break than usual, if we have to, and if he asks when he gets back, I'll make something up." He shrugged his shoulders. "Better not to ******** around, especially if it starts doing more than giving us Saturday Morning Certoon vision." He made a soft "ugh" noise and dumped the candy in his hand back in the bag, scooping it up and going to the trash to dump it. It wasn't that he cared, per se, about the possibility that someone else might eat them, but if they were still in reach, well. Thoughtless snacking happened, and Rónán didn't want to play with magical fire any more than he had to.
"Suppose it's best to be careful with anything you find for free. No knowing what might have weird effects." He sighed, tiredly.
Hopefully, this stupid magic wore off soon.

"Well, that at least is good," he said with another sigh. "The last thing I need is to be written up." He blinked hard, wishing this weirdo vision would go away faster, but alas, it would seem he just had to wait. "Yeah, no more free food for me. Which sucks," he said with a huff, crossing his arms, "Free food is one of the world's greatest gifts. Whatever." He finished his lunch and started scrolling on his phone. Huh. At least the vision was funny on the memes, he supposed.
