Quote:
It was already late in the evening but the merchant seemed unfazed by the passing of time. He sat, poised and elegant, watching the world around him. He didn’t seem bored but he sat, fingers laced atop the table; below it, he kept his toe tapping to some silent tune in his head. He was tall, by human standards, though while sitting down he didn’t seem particularly threatening. If you didn’t look at his face.

He had graceful features--sharp and refined. His chin and nose tapered to a point, giving him an air of sophistication, but that, combined with his slitted eyes and pointed teeth, there was something undeniably predatory about him. He watched with a hungry gaze and a mischievous, nearly sinister smile. His ears were pointed and were prominent despite being tucked behind his vibrant, multi-colored hair. The most intrusive feature that indicated there was something not human about him were the curling horns protruding from his temples and the oil-slick black scales that brushed his cheeks and forehead. He was well dressed, in a fashion obviously otherworldly, and seemed to enjoy dressing himself up in glistening gemstones.

His tables were somehow both simple and overwhelming; each table was draped with a dark purple table clothe, all with extravagant embroidery in different designs. Scattered neatly atop the tables were an array of items that seemed to carry some magical weight to them.

He did not seem intimidated in the slightest and, upon noticing that the barrier surrounding him rippled to allow his visitor to pass, he smiled.

He did not rise to meet them nor adjust his position in the slightest. He followed them with his fierce eyes and greeted, in a silky voice, “Welcome.”

Super Sailor Dubhe was a persistant creature. She'd spent the night before with Miss Kitty looking for wherever the wisps belonged, but finding not a clue, they parted ways and tonight Dubhe looked again, wisp in a jar in her hands, cradled sur[risingly gently as the senshi looked about Destiny City. She didn't want to damage or destroy it, in case it belonged to someone, and so instead her hgeels clacked as she walked down the sidewalk, alert and attentive, At last, she sighted a table with cloth and goods, and the senshi perked up hopefully. Oh! Oh, they looked--

Dubhe didn't approach yet, squinting in confusion before cocking her head curiously. The man had a lot of points -- ears, horns, teeth -- and were those scales? Was he a dragon? Dragon man? Maybe he knew where the little wisp belonged, at any rate, and he wasn't charging off hurting anyuone, so maybe it was all show, or... Oh. Ooooohhhhh maybe he was from another star system! Well, regardless, it was someone to ask, and Super Dubhe promptly made her way over, jarred wisp in her hands, and she met his smile with her own that reached eart to ear as she presented the jar curiously.

"Hello! I'm twerribly sorry to interrupt your business this evening but do you know anything about these? A friend and I caught a couple last night and I'd like to make sure they make it home, especially if someone's missing them." Honestly if they were a weapon, she didn't want to know -- shje was largely non-violent outside exceptions.

“Oh, by all means. It’s no interruption.” His eyes were on the jarred wisp, and he tapped his foot just a bit quicker beneath the table in a carefully concealed gesture of enthusiasm.

“I’m glad for the company.” Really, the business. “I’ve actually been looking for those things, I’ve got a sign out front. I’m willing to make a trade, if you’re interested. I’m a reasonable businessman, and I am missing them, quite supremely. I didn’t realize your atmosphere was going to be so dense this year, my landing was a bit,” he sighed, and reached a hand up to tuck his hair behind a pointed ear, “Rough. I’m afraid I lost quite a few things. Those,” he pointed to the wisp, “Are one of my greatest treasures. So it’s only fitting that I exchange another treasure for it, if you’d be so kind. I have plenty of course.”

He gestured across the table in front of him, but there were more goods laid out around him.

Neatly arranged, between himself and her, were an array of trinkets, baubles, weapons and toys. Some were more straight forward than others--jewelry, a blade, a little statue, a pretty, multi-jointed doll. Some didn’t make any sense, but were shiny, or old.

At the very least, they were all interesting, and he guarded them like a dragon with his hoard.

Ah! So the wispo was this off-world gentleman's (Assuming he wasn't using a disguise to look friendlier to humans) and he was missing them! Sailor Dubhe listened intently, before worry writ itself on her faceas she offered him the wisp - jar and all.

"Oh no! I'm so sorry your arrival so so hard! Are you alright? I can heal a little bit, if you need it?" She worried about people and that worry extended to this person now too -- but she was ever the sort to care and worry and fuss. A gentle soul at heart, Dubhe wanted to find ways to coexist over fighting, even with the chaos side -- after all, they were people too!

When he motioned to his goods in trade, Dubhe actively hesitated. She didn't worry about reward, but she did know for some, they felt more at ease, so she took a look. The weaponry didn't hold her overlong -- much as it might help her if someone attacked her, she didn't want a means to harm anyone. The rest did interest her enough to look, and she supposed if she wasn't powered she might come peeking with her uncle or her cousins. She almost wished she had something besides the wisp to offer him for future visitors -- something he might enjoy, but she didn't have anything on her.

How disappointing, he seemed so nice, and dapper to boot.

“Oh, you’re sweet.”

He accepted the jar and wisp quickly, like he was afraid she might change her mind. He unscrewed the lid so he could carefully scoop out the orb. While it was cradled carefully in his hand, he reached under the table and drew out an extremely ornate candy dish, complete with stem and lid. The crystal bowl was cut with many facets that all perfectly seemed to capture and accentuate the light inside. Atop of the clear crystal, an ornate silver lid encrusted with what looked to be a giant diamond in the center. It had a large silver stem and a beautiful, sturdy base with a few more gemstones embedded within it. A few wisps danced around inside already, so he opened the lid, deposited her wisp, and then promptly returned the item to hide below his table.

That taken care of, he brushed his hands off and looked at her with another sweet smile.

“I’m in one piece, though I can’t say as much for my wares. Go ahead, take a look. Tell me what you like, Senshi. I’m sure I’ve got something to catch your eye.”

A healer, maybe. Probably not interested in weapons. And she seemed humble, so he didn’t look first at the gemstones.

His eyes settled on the doll he’d looked at earlier.

“She could use a healing hand, though.” He lifted the doll, and the limbs dangled almost helplessly. On the back, there was a small, wind up knob; he tilted it just so, making sure Dubhe could see it. “Crammed in the bottom of a box for so long. I don’t think she’s seen the light of day in a century. Unless, perhaps, a doll isn’t your sort of thing? I can suggest something else if you tell me what you like. But,” he brushed her off. “...I always thought she was a neat little toy. Good, if you’re lonely. She has a mind of her own. Sometimes.”

Dubhe was delighted to see him place the wisp in it's proper place, smiling broadly with unfiltered joy at the safe return of the wisp. In truth, that was the best prize; the kind that meant she'd taken good care and managed to return the item safely to it's rightful place.

"I'm glad you're okay! I admit, I am also sorry your wares were damaged. I'm sorry that happened to you." No, the atmosphere wasn't her fault, but someone still suffered because of something, and Dubhe was sad for that fact -- being an epathetic soul, she worried, and as his eyes moved, hers followed, the senshi listening carefully to his words before she looked at the little doll, listening to him speak.

Her heart visibly broke on her face for it, the senshi looking absolutely sad at the doll's tale as she listened.

"Oh, the poor little thing..." She sounded so worried, too.

"Is it alright if I use my magic on her? The poor dear -- noone should be in the dark so long..."

The merchant clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth and seemed to think about this. “Oh, I suppose that would be alright. But if you care for her so much, you might do her better to just take her home, too. I’m afraid she’ll get little love with me, I’ve simply no time. But, go ahead.”

He passed the doll over.

“Although, from a business perspective, I think we should close the deal before I let you alter it. Just in case. Magic can be so erratic, you know.”

"Home -- ah! I certainly wouldn't mind giving her a good home." And Dubhe was still smiles and joy, gratitude on her face as she stroked the doll's hair gently. "You do have a point, and I'd hate if there were side effects that did you ill. Aaah, maybe I can look into some clothing for her as well." The implication the doll might be even a bit living actually didn't bother her -- it seemed to bring out more nurturing, more gentleness towards the doll that was warm, and briught.

Really, Dubhe seemed overjoyed to adopt. She'd need to keep her from her corn snake as able, but that was also easy -- he wasn't an arborial species of snake. Finally Dubhe was turning a kind smile on the merchant directly again, cradling the doll like her own very small child.

"Are you sure you will be okay without a healing spell? It would be sad if something bad happened to you." She was worried!

“Oh, your heart is so big,” he said, saccharine appreciation thick in his voice. “No, I’m quite alright, thank you. You’ve healed me quite enough just by agreeing to take her home. Give her a twist, she’s got a little thing on her back. You’ll make a fast friend,” he said, and while he didn’t seem like he intended to tell her what that did, he seemed content enough to guide her through the process of finding out.

The little doll was magic, and when wound up became mechanically animated for several hours. As long as the doll was wound, it remained active. It wasn’t smart, it couldn’t communicate, or really function in any intellectual capacity--but it seemed to immediately attune to whoever wound it and followed them until it ran out of energy. Perhaps the most interesting thing about it, aside from being a small companion that followed its owner aimlessly, was that it seemed to like to hold something in its arms as it did so. If the owner gave it an item, it would hold it until its body went limp from exhaustion, but if it was not given something, it would pick up some small item it found and carry that around instead.

"Well... As long as you'll be alright." Dubhe accepted carefully. She was the sort to frety, and she knew it, especially since her cousins and uncle pointed it out, unlike her father, whom seemed to accept it with a degree of grace. But he was gone, and she was left behind fretting over everyone and being redirected to less fussy prospects often enough she was beginning to simply accept the hint.

So, she listened instead, nodding attentively before looking down to the doll in her arms whom she already had clothing ideas for, and very, very gently, Dubhe began to turn the key carefully as instructed, smiling gently down at the doll warmly.

The doll almost immediately came to life, and though she was mechanical, there was an obvious magic to her; she went rigid for a second, like all her parts were waking up, and then she leaned against Dubhe as if she needed to be close to her. The doll looked up at her, once, and then placed her tiny hands around Dubhe’s thumb as if she had decided she was going to hold that.

The merchant seemed pleased, and he seemed to be searching Dubhe’s face to make sure she was as well. “I’m always alright. But the offer is appreciated. Do you like her? She seems like she likes you already.”

Dubhe gasped in wonder as she came to life, briefly listening for inner machinery before the doll held her thumb, and she absolutely melted, smiling at the small automaton before gently stroking her hair.

"Hello, little one..." Dubhe breathed gently, smiling before turning her smile to the Merchant.

"I'm glad to hear that. The offer stands, if something ever necessitates my help, if you need. And she's wonderful! Such a sweet little thing... I love her already!" Was she thinking of dressing her up? Of course, but that was Dubhe's way. She melted easily and loved people, and, in this case, dolls.

“I’ll keep that in mind, of course. Your gratitude is not lost on me. Though, now that you’ve woken up that little one, you might as well make good use of what time she has left tonight. I’m sure she’d like to see her new home. And I’m afraid I don’t have anything fun for her here. I’d be very disheartened if she were to fall or trip or break herself. And the terrain is a bit rough. But you’ll take her home and get her cleaned up, won’t you? Perhaps you’ll come back and visit and let me know how she’s doing.”

He smiled, sweetly, if not still a bit frighteningly with all those sharp teeth.

“Give her a good name. And a good life. Figuratively speaking, of course. Or literally. I won’t judge.”

"Definatekly, and I think I have just the space for her to enjoy at home!" Dubhe agreed heartilly. "It was wonderful meeting you, and.. Thank you for her. I promise she'll be safe."

Because honestly she could kick Zayne's butt in drones if he tried and Zeke as Super Dubhe, which he was pouting at her over. No, Dubhe knew she could protect and care for the little companion, and she turned to move for home carefully, shielding her new little doll in her hands, stroking her hair with her thumbs as she disappeared for home, a large smile write on her face as she walked along her way.
