He had texted Laine almost out of the blue asking her to get dinner one night. Despite everything happening, still settling into a new normal with Derek, Kraven, and Kazuo, Kor had this complete feeling of upset. Laine wasn't here. Laine, who he still loved so deeply, wasn't around as much as he would like, and he had a few questions for her.

So he waited at the agreed upon location, nothing fancy, just some cafe near the tattoo shop they used to get lunch from when they worked together last. He sat at a table on the inside, picking apart a napkin for something to do. His hands needed to stay busy so his mind could sort through what conversations needed to be had.

Kor had been working out, not for weight purposes, but to get his strength and muscle back. He finally didn't look like if he held a bag he would collapse. He was still thin, still recovering, but he wasn't a skeleton with skin pulled tight. You couldn't see his ribs as prominently and his face had a lot more shape to it. Even his hair was longer, still shorn and cropped to his head, the curls tight and in his natural black instead of the dyed copper he liked when he had been with Laine.

For now, he waited on Laine, hoping she showed up.

Laine sighed as she pushed a hand through her bangs as she made her way to the meet up. There was something fundamentally terrifying of the phrase ''We need to talk". Though, she supposed she had no room to talk. She had probably dropped the phrase a few times on Kor herself so, she really had no room to talk. There were probably a hundred reasons why they needed to talk, but if you asked Laine, she couldn't tell you a single one.

She picked at the sleeve of the oversized hoodie she was wearing as she entered the building. She probably shouldn't do it... It wasn't her hoodie, but she needed to do something with her hands. Though, picking at the hoodie was a better alternative then picking at the various knicks and marks that scattered her hands. Laine hadn't been able to focus much with work, and after so long, she'd finally called it quits till she could get her head back in the game...

However long that took.

There was a moment of hesitation, when she finally saw Kor, where Laine debated spinning on her heel and walking out the way she came But... She pushed through it. She owed him this much. Laine had said she'd show up more often, and then hadn't even bothered to keep up her end of the bargain.

Laine sighed again, dropping herself rather unceremoniously into the chair opposite him as she pulled the sleeves down and her hair free of the hoodie. "Is this gonna turn into a screaming match?" She asked. Laine really hoped it wouldn't She couldn't handle it right now if it were to end up that way.

He hadn't heard her walking up. Kor had been much too wrapped up in his own thoughts for that, so when she just plunked down in front of him, he started and those green eyes blinked rapidly.

"....I hope not," he said, eyes looking at his hands on the table instead of her face. At least for now. He started ripping apart his napkin pieces, making them even smaller, fingers moving deftly as he tried to get his thoughts together to actually make this conversation happen. "We... haven't seen each other since that day, so I'd like to not yell. I don't think I have the energy for that...."

Slowly he lifted his gaze to her face, taking in how she looked, trying to figure out if she was worse or better. Then she noticed that hoodie that was way too big for her. It looked like a boy's hoodie too, and Kor felt his heart drop to his stomach.

Of course. He couldn't expect her to not move on.

"Ho-" His voice cracked and Kor cleared his throat, trying to swallow down the lump in it. "How're you doing?"

"Good... I don't have the energy for it either." She mumbled. It wasn't that she was actively trying to stay away... She was just.. busy. Or that's what she told herself she was. Ever since the incident, Laine had kept an ear out. Listening for anyone whispering certain names, wondering about s**t they shouldn't be.

"Stop that." She saod suddenly, not even looking up. She could just, tell when Kor was staring at her. "It's my brothers." Probably the only one left of her family who still lived in the city, the only one left to who still talked to her.

"I'm.... something." She muttered. "I don't whether toncall it tired or srained or what." Laine waved a hand dismissively. "I'm existing, I guess." She got quiet then, fiddling with a ring on her finger. "Just... cause I haven't been around, doesn't mean I haven't been keeping watch, you know." Cats were useful like that.

Even after all this time apart, she remembered how his brain worked, and how he looked when he was thinking those thoughts that hurt his heart. Kor stilled a minute once she stated it was her brother's hoodie, and glanced up at her. It was like he was trying to read her face, see if she was lying, but he knew she wasn't.

"...Some days that's all you can do, isn't it? Exist..." He let his lips quirk a little before he rubbed the back of his neck with his left hand. "I figured that, I guess. I just..." He trailed off before shrugging and let his land drop back to the table to gather a new napkin. "I haven't seen you... since that day. You said you wouldn't be a stranger, but, I don't... wanna pressure you into visiting." It had to hurt. He knew it did. It hurt to be around her like this right now with so much uncertainty and history between the two of them. He felt his heart doing flips in his chest.

"So I wanted to talk to you. ...About where we are. What we are, I guess."

"Senna." She said, flicking a fuzzy from the hoodie on to the floor. "The mad tall one?" Laine turned, finally looking at him only to hold a hand over her head, trying to indicate a height. "Two toned black and white hair?" She wasn't sure if Kor had every actually met any or all of her family. Coming from a big family, bringing a significant other to meet them was... exhausting. And she hadn't been in any rush to sick the horde on Kor like that.

"Existing even feels like a stretch some times." It sounded draining.. She didn't even feel like she was existing some days. Existing meant she was.. trying. And sometimes it felt like she was just on autopilot, going through the motions. Kor seemed to be doing better in that regard then her. But then again, he had the support network behind him to make sure of it.

Laine sighed. "I know... Believe me I know." Laine scrubbed at her face with the sleeves of the hoodie, suddenly wishing they were anywhere but a public place. Though, it was neutral ground. Someplace neither could control. She understand why it was picked, but still. Laine shoved her hands in the pocket of the hoodie. ".. It's.. a lot. I guess. Trying to cover tracks. Trying not to dwell on s**t to long... Watching." She shrugged listlessly. "Is... Is there a point? Really? If the two of you are just gonna..." A hand reappeared only to make a vague hand waving gesture before disappearing. "Ya know... If you and Kraven are gonna do that thing..." Was there a point in her getting attached, only to watch them disappear again? All of them? "The two of you might be ready for that, but... I'm not. At least not yet." Not mentally, physically, or emotionally. "You guys look happy though. It's nice to see Kraven can do something other then scowl." She gave a half smile.

"We are a lot of things Kor."

Sad, broken, a hot mess... The list went on.

Kor hadn't met her family, but he'd seen pictures, so he just nodded at the description.

But he listened as she spoke, exposing some of her fears that were his own echoed back at him. Green eyes looked down as he felt the stinging in his eyes. Instead he just took a breath and stared down at his hands.

"I love you. You know that. I haven't stopped, Laine. I haven't stopped thinking about you, either. I haven't... stopped thinking about what our wedding would have been like... our house, the k-kids.." He trailed off slowly before he swallowed that lump that formed in his throat again. "...We're... Kraven... Kazuo, Derek, me.. We're ....figuring it out, but I'm a greedy man, Laine."

Finally those green eyes looked up at her. "I want you too. Like them. With us. With them..."

"That I know. There was never a point where I didn't know, or wasn't reminded." Laine reached up behind her neck and seemed to fiddle with something before pulling a thick chain from her hoodie. ".... Putting it on a chain was probably a bit cliche but... I figured that was better then just sitting in a box.." She said, setting the chain, and what was on the chain, down on the table.

Laine scowled though, when he mentioned kids. A sore spot to be certain, one that, at this point she feared would never heal. "Things have changed Kor. You know that as much as I do." That time was over, gone. They were over, gone. Never to exist again. There was a part of her that wished they'd put that behind them, forget about it and move on. "I don't know if I can do... that." Now, or ever. She knew it was something Kor wanted, greatly.. But...

Laine huffed, shoving through the conversation.

She rolled her eyes, with a bit of a smirk. "I could have told you that you were greedy. I told you that you should have looked into a poly group. I called this s**t. Jesus christ..." She'd say she told him so but... He probably got the point by now. Laine sighed, wistfully. "Just cause you want me there, doesn't mean that's what the group wants as a whole.. Aren't you guys still on the mend from... ending up as a group? Is introducing someone new really the best thing right now?" Not to say she wouldn't be interested but...

She sounded like she was trying to let him down gently. Kor should have expected that. He couldn't have everyone. With a deep breath the man just gave her a watery look and then shrugged.

What he wanted to do was pull her into his lap and hold her. He wanted to mourn with her, the future they'd both seen and now was gone in the blink of an eye. He wanted to kiss her and tell her that they'd figure it out as a group, but he wanted her there. No, there hadn't been a talk with the others about this, but when everyone was new as the perfect time.

"....It makes sense to do it... when ...we're still figuring it out." It sounded pathetic to his own ears. "I ...I haven't talked to them, but ********, Laine." He pinned her with a look of desperation, yet hope. "It wasn't supposed to end like that for us. I can feel that. What else am I gonna do?"

Laine sighed as she stood, moving her chair next to Kor's, dropping herself in it. "Please stop looking like I kicked your nonexistent dog." She mumbled, leaning against his arm.

"It wasn't, but it did." And they couldn't change that. "s**t like that happens, whether we want it to or not." Sometimes, people just drifted apart. "What you're gonna do, is talk to them. All of them. Kraven probably won't care, but Kazuo and the kid are a different story." They didn't know her and she didn't know them. "We can say we'll fo whatever but.. They need to be included in the discussion and decision too."

"I am.... willing to give things a shot." She said nervously. "But only if everyone is okay with it. And I mean everyone." she wasn't about to disrupt everything, just to make someone unhappy. "No begging either."

When Laine leaned against him, Kor turned and wrapped both both arms around her before pushing his face against the top of her head. It was a familiar thing to do, just like breathing in deeply as she once again spoke the truth.

It wasn't a no. It was a yes with conditions. That he could work with. Kor gave her a squeeze and just held her tighter.

"Okay, okay. I won't beg 'em. Just know... there's no pressure on you though... You can still.... vanish when you need to. Take time for yourself, or whatever happens." He wasn't going to force her to be around all the time. Hell, even Kazuo and Kraven still had their own apartment despite all of them being a thing.

"Thanks for showing up," he whispered, pressing a kiss to the top of her head.

"Oh I'm definitely vanishing." She was still not back to her old self... Just thinking about the amount of... people... energy. Ugh. She was going to get so drained, so quickly.

Laine rolled her eyes, looking around them. "Yeah you couldn't have picked a less... foot traffic place?" She mumbled wanting to hide in the confines of her hoodie. Though, she wasn't entirely sure she'd show up in the house. Maybe she would, maybe she wouldn't. She honestly didn't have an answer.

"Listen, I wasn't sure you'd show up at all..." But he did silently agree with her. Kor let one hand drop to her waist, stroking her side in a soothing motion before just leaning against her like it was all he could do. It might be. Kor was so tired after this. He'd talked himself in circles with convincing himself she wouldn't ignore him. At least he politely turned his head to yawn, and didn't do it on her.

"That's.... what I wanted to talk about, so I guess I can just... text you the answer when I talk to them." Kor didn't want to let Laine go. She was against him, and it felt right.

[Mistress Morbid]

"Would you show up if you woke up to a text that says "We need to talk"?" She asked. It was almost like she knew what Kor was thinking cause she yawned behind a sleeve.

"Yeah, it's probably... not a good idea if I'm there for the conversation. It might make people think they already have no choice, or they say yes just because I'm there. I can talk to people later if they want, but it's probably better I'm not there at first?" Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. For all her talk in the past in being interested, Laine had never been involved in anything like this. She didn't know what the best course of action was.

"I either need coffee, or a nap." She muttered, hiding another yawn behind a sleeve.

"I'll get your usual," he murmured softly, pressing his lips to her forehead softly. Honestly Kor couldn't help it. It was so easy to shower her with affection, even after years apart. Hopefully Laine didn't mind it.

With that, the man got up and ordered her coffee, and a slice of cheesecake to share before settling back down a few moments later. "They'll bring it out since they're getting busy." With that, he looked her over again and just smiled to himself. "You still are the most gorgeous girl I've ever seen, you know." Definitely not afraid of paying her compliments.
