Omari was always amazed by the dancers he saw at the big festivals in the Oban capital. The youngling had begged his mother to allow him to tag along this year so that he could watch all of the performances from his mother's dance school. He absolutely adored dancing and wanted to learn as much as he could from his mother. This would be the perfect time to do so! It was summer and the city was bustling with life as everyone celebrated the gods and the bounty of plenty that had been bestowed upon the lands during these last few months. There were Matori and Oban people everywhere with some foreigners slipping into the mix as they participated in the celebrations while merchants traded and haggled for wares. Even some Aishans were in the area, something Omari found out for himself whenever he bumped into one!
“Whoops!” A flush decorated his cheeks as he realized he had smacked his face right into someone's knees. Hopefully they wouldn't be too mad at him! Especially since it was the summer festival...it would be awful to get upset on a fun day like this. Omari could only hope that On'os was on his side as he took a step back and prepared himself for the stranger's reaction.

Briallen was fascinated with the Oban markets. Not only had she gotten to see a variety of wares and food and earthlings but apparently there was also a summer festival going on! I want to learn all that I can! The young Alkidike was completely enamoured with everything and found herself darting from stall to stall, her movements only freezing whenever another small body bounced into her legs. “Oof!” She gasped before blinking in surprise at a little hybrid boy. “Are you alright?” Thankfully he seemed to be okay and so far hadn't erupted into tears like some other younglings sometimes were prone to do. He was a bit older at least so that much was a relief. Briallen found herself chewing the inside of her lip almost nervously as she glanced over the boy. Surely he was fine... he hadn't smacked into her that harshly. The last thing she would want to do is cause a scene on her very first trip to an Oban market.

“Yeah.” Omari nodded before blinking up towards the Alkidike. Thankfully she didn't seem to be upset at him! “You’re really tall.” He managed as he fully studied her. This was his first time meeting an Aishan up close and he felt so small! Did they all truly grow to be that huge? Could he grow that tall one day? Probably not but it would be cool if he could!

“And you’re so blue.” Teased Briallen with a chuckle as she crouched down to get closer to the boy’s level. “Are you out here alone? Is it normal for younglings like yourself to run about during these festivities?” She tilted her head thoughtfully, her antennae twitching, before she glanced about as if looking for any adult that would claim the child.

Omari let out a laugh. “Am I?” The youngling replied with a grin. “I guess so!” He felt like he looked more Matori than Oban and honestly didn’t mind at all! Though it seemed to be a thing in their family that all the boys had the Matori blue while the girls had their mother’s mocha colored skin. “It’s okay. The dancers know me.” He gushed before gesturing towards the groups that were setting up for a performance in the middle of the markets. “My momma runs the academy nearby so they’ll be performing dances soon with others to share stories about the gods!”

That smile was definitely contagious. Briallen shook her head before studying the playful youngling more. “Dancers?” She repeated with interest before glancing over towards where he was pointing. “Ah, so they’ll be performing soon then…” That would explain why he seemed so at ease in the area since there was a group who would easily come running to his aid if he called out. Not that she was thinking of anything bad happening to the child! More so Briallen was just worried whenever she saw a youngling out and about alone like this.

“Mmhmm.” Omari nodded as he watched the dancers getting ready for the late afternoon performances. “Would you like to watch?” He offered with a smile as he glanced towards the Aishan girl. It would be nice to have company and they could talk about the dances together! And anyone that knew him understood that the youngling adored having company and sharing stories. No one was truly a stranger to him!

Briallen blinked with surprise. What a friendly kid! The Alkidike grinned before nodding. “Why not? I would love to see what these dances teach me about local customs.” Would it be a mix of more than Matori and Oban gods and goddesses? She knew that they had a diverse group which was so different compared to how the Aishans just had their mother and daughter trees. It would be interesting to watch indeed.

“Great!” Omari reached for the Aishan’s hand so that he could lead the way to his favorite bench to watch the show. “My name is Omari by the way.” He added as he weaved through the crowd with the Alkidike right behind him. Some of the dancers gave him a confused look while others only shook their heads in amusement. It was definitely like Omari to go and grab some stranger to watch the performance with.

A light flush decorated Briallen’s cheeks as she noticed the looks. Still, she continued following the boy and when they sat down on a stone bench together she finally offered her name. “I’m Briallen. It is nice to meet you, Omari.” She introduced herself with a slight nod before an Oban girl decorated in seashells and other oceany attire came forward across the stage. She was gorgeous with the way the silks clung to her body yet were light enough to allow easy movement, pearls and shells sewn into the bodice of the material to give it even more colors beyond the deep blues. More pearls and silvery trinkets decorated her long dreads which had been twisted and braided all the way down towards her waist and yet she moved as if nothing weighed her down. “Who is that?”

“That’s Yonyli.” Replied Omari without missing a beat. She was one of the most talented dancers in the first class so of course he knew her! “She’s dressed like Ubeli, the goddess of the ocean and moon! Though in Matori we call the goddess Ubeli'ae which I prefer since it’s more fun to say.” He offered with a grin. “But she’s going to do the ocean dance before the sun god rises to take the stage.” As he spoke the dancer started moving, her movements swaying like the gentle ocean before calling in the tides and then the rougher waves. Others came forward and Omari spoke in a whisper as he described everything to Briallen. “That’s Len, goddess of fishing and Drach’ti of storms…”

Briallen found herself watching the performance with interest. “Wow.” She breathed as she watched all of the colorful characters come to life through dance. They had so many gods in Oba and Matori! It was amazing to see how Obans, Matori and even hybrids came together to represent their different gods during all of the dancing. Even when Atun came out he was a Matori man dressed in golden silks and makeup that almost made Briallen feel like she was glancing towards the sun with how bright he was. “You’ll have to keep explaining to me. This is fascinating.” She whispered as she leaned forward with Omari to get a better look at the performance.

“Sure!” Omari whispered back before continuing on with more explanations. Maybe he could learn more about the Aishan goddess later but for now he was happy to share all that he knew about the dancers and the gods they represented. This was truly a fun summer festival! They even got sweet bread from one of the younger dancers, still a trainee so not a part of the performance, who along with a few others sold snacks and drinks to those in the crowd to raise money for the school. It was a proud feeling to know that someone else could get so wrapped up in the performances and he was excited to see when his mother would come on stage this year. Hopefully soon so that he could watch how Briallen reacted to her dancing! And then maybe one day it would be his turn to wow an audience! Excitement bloomed in Omari’s chest as he continued enjoying the show with Briallen.

Briallen definitely was glad that she had stopped in Oba before heading towards home. The Alkidike was enjoying the show and all of the stories about the gods, her attention completely taken by the dancers save for the brief moments when she was sharing a snack with Omari and listening to his narrative about the dances. I cannot wait to get home and share this with my sisters. She thought with a small smile as her gaze followed all of the colorful figures dancing on stage, their stories expanding her knowledge of the earthling’s world. She would watch the full show and then make certain that Omari found someone familiar before heading back towards her camp for the night. And perhaps in the future she would find the youngling again one day and see what other type of earthling dances he could show her then.
