Summer was drawing closer and closer and the different villages around Tendaji were beginning to plan their summer festivals. It was a tradition in Tendaji - to celebrate the Gods every year in the summer when spirits were high and food was at its most abundant.

All the races had their own gods to celebrate, whatever those might have been, and every person had their own feelings one way or the other.

[ What did they mean to you? With the summer fast approaching, it must be somewhere (no matter how small) on everyone’s thoughts. And what are your thoughts on the other culture’s gods? ]

Uro had set up the wooden frame days ago, and made sure the cloth was pulled as taut as possible. She sat on a stool outside of her shop with the frame in her lap and a basket of various yarn at her side. A needle was threaded with a thick, blue strand and poised to spear into the cloth to make the first stitch... With her lips pressed and brow knit, Uro contemplated her first move. And contemplated. ...and contemplated. "I do wish they had been more specific in which spirit I am to do this for," she murmured, looking over to her sitara, Golda. Golda was perched on the windowsill nearby, sitting placidly in the cool shade. "There are so many water spirits, after all, and they already told me to just make one. They're so restrictive, don't you think?"

Wren didn't often travel without his parents, but since growing older they were allowing him to get out more and more. At first it had been a simple safety concern for their youngest boy, and then it had turned into more of an embarrassment issue. He was...rather eccentric, after all, and being left to his own devices usually made for interesting stories...

Passerbys gave the abnormal teenager a wide berth as he crept along down the street. There was a torn cloak thrown over his shoulders, but it's placement did little to hide the noose freely swinging around his neck.

His mother had been very specific; he was just to buy a new bucket and return to the caravan. Quickly. And yet, here he was, skulking about the festival. He stopped by a few stalls to peruse their wares when he came across Uro's.

"'Ello miss, wha' are you making?"

The needle touched the cloth, backed up, touched the cloth, and backed up again. How was she to decide! Maybe she would go ahead and just make a few..? The festival would be going for a few days, so she surely had the time!

She looked up at the voice, smiling politely. "Hello there!" When her eyes fell onto the noose though, her expression turned slightly with surprise. Was that really what it looked like? "I am making embroidery. A pillow cover, to be precise, for my contribution to the festival. ..That is a rather forbidding accessory to wear, don't you think?" She couldn't help asking. While one to live and let live, even Uro could be curious about certain aspects of those around her.

"No, seems pre'y na'ural 'o me. I am dead, af'er all." Wren smiled a big toothy grin and flashed the teeth he'd so intricately sharped to fine points. There wasn't a single molar or incisors that wasn't modified which gave the creepy little iceling the unsettling look he so desperately wanted.

"I''s why I'm blue; I'm a spiri'." He raised his soot tainted fingers up in front of him and wiggled them for a moment before lowering them so he could move a little closer.

Now that surprised her. 'So this is how everyone else feels when I talk..' she thought to herself. "You're dead?" she repeated after him, finding herself leaning forward for a closer look of her own. He did have quite the ashen pallor, but could someone dead be walking around? Part of her told her it was simply uniqueness, but then "spirit" came up. "A spirit! I have never seen one with such a defined appearance!" she cooed with wide eyes. Being the walking dead was one thing, but a spirit? Yeah, she could believe that.

"Forgive me if my opinion was unwelcome. I suppose such misunderstandings are only natural with interactions between different states of being." She looked down at her project and raised a brow with interest. "Would it please you to have a pillow cover made especially for you? I can sew on nearly whatever design you would like."

"I've bin 'old I'm a unique spiri'." Wren shook his shoulders and 'straightened' up a bit, which is to say he was only slightly crouched now. If his family was able to see the value in his unique appearance then a woman as talented as this one would have no problem seeing it too.

"I''s alrigh', miss; I won'' be 'aun'in your dreams 'onigh'." The inflection he placed upon the word 'your' was as if the boy could do it to others. In his mind, maybe, but reality was completely different....

"A pillah cover? Faw me? Yes, I 'hink 'ha' would do nicely. Any'hin 'o do wi'h 'he nigh'. Tha''s wha' calls me~"

Quite unique, indeed! "I would assume so. As I said though, I have never seen one so clearly as you, so I fear I have little else for comparison." It was truly a delight to witness this spirit's form! As ominous and foreboding as its appearance was, the spirit himself seemed fairly agreeable. "I appreciate that my dreams will be safe tonight.. but I would not mind if you appeared in them. I would be happy to host you there as long as it is a friendly appearance and not, as you say, haunting."

Something to do with the night... The moon and the stars were naturally the first things to come to mind, but that didn't seem to fit the aura she was sensing. Perking up suddenly, she looked down at the cloth and stabbed the needle through. "This will take a moment, if you don't mind. You may have a seat or come back later if you prefer."

Wren was temporarily stunned. His eyes widened and a goofy little quirk came upon his crooked smile. "You wouldn'' mind if i appeared in your dreams...?" Oh my, a girl had never said that to him before! How wonderful was that?! Yes, yes, quite amazing and this woman definitely deserved his spiritual protection!

"Time ma'ers li'le 'o me so 'ake as much ov i' as you like." His grin brightened a little, which is to say, he showed more 'fang' than ever. Wren scuttled a little closer and settled himself down on the ground near her. "Ah' long 'ave you bin makin offerings faw spiri's?"

Uro grinned and shook her head. "I wouldn't mind at all." This poor spirit! He must have heard often that he was less than welcome. Of course, many would judge based on his appearance alone, like she almost had. What a treat this would turn out to be though! Her hands were making quick work now that she had an idea in mind for the pillow cover. Soon enough, she was tying off the first color and threading the needle with another.

"Oh, I suppose it has been ever since I was little. My grandmother taught me about the importance of honoring the spirits. The earliest I remember is mushing some clay into the shape of a bird. My father said it looked more like an aldabuk dropping...but it wasn't meant for him anyway. And now that my grandmother is a spirit as well, I make certain to do a little extra for the offerings."

"Da spiri's would 'ave known wha' your in'en'ions were." Wren answered with a bright, toothy smile. So long as her heart was in it the bird very well could have taken flight! Occasionally he would lean forward to look at her stitches, pull away to give her privacy...only to inevitably lean forward once again.

Instead of feeling sorry for her loss, Wren seemed to perk up a little. "If I ever see 'er I'll be sure 'o 'ell your grandmo'her abou' 'he kindness you've shown me 'oday. She'll be very proud ov you." After all, who wouldn't with a granddaughter this attentive?

Uro gave the boy an appreciative smile. "That's what my grandmother said. However the clay turned out, the spirits would know what it was meant for." Her smile only grew further with the reassurances as well. "Thank you. She would be very interested to meet you, I am certain. Her name is Rozamae."

Brow rising, she blushed and shook her head. "Speaking of names, forgive me for not introducing myself. My name is Urosangylea." She tied off a final stitch, cut it free from the thread, and shook out the pillow case. On it was embroidered a gold and black flower with dark teal leaves surrounding it. "Here, this is for you, if you would like to accept it. It's a Starshade, a flower that blooms only at night."

"Usosangylea..." Wren repeated the name under his breath and smiled at the uniqueness of it. It felt different, like something one wouldn't hear everyday, and seemed to suit it's mistress well. "People 'ave called me Wren befawe so I suppose 'ha' is my name." Those people being the same ones that called themselves his parents, but honestly, Wren wasn't too sure on that!

He watched over her actions, his eyes taking in every little stitch with childlike fascination, before finally being able to hold the pillow case in his hands. "I''s perfec'! I accep' your offerin on behalf ov 'he spiri' wawld an' offer my blessin 'o you."

A name? Well, why wouldn't a spirit have a name? That made sense. "Wren. I like it. It is much more musical than simply "Spirit," isn't it?" Uro giggled lightly. Still, meeting someone named Spirit would surely be interesting!

Her face lit up with Wren's approval for the gift, quickly slipping the needle into the safe cushion before clasping her hands together. "I am so glad to hear that you like it. I appreciate the work that you and your fellow spirits do." She bowed her head respectfully in appreciation for the offered blessing. She was even too excited by this encounter to ask for details. "It has been a most unique pleasure to meet you, Spirit Wren. You are more than welcome to visit me again if you choose to."

Musical? Well, he'd never really thought about it, but it sounded good to him. It just made him smile like the dense little boy he was and found himself flushing a little at the woman in front of him.

"If our wawlds cross 'hen i would very much like 'o." The chance to talk to a pretty girl who could 'see' him? What a wonder! So many chose to ignore him or shirk in fear of his otherworldly appearance, but she didn't mind! She appreciated him and made nice things. "Mawe people could stand 'o be a li'le mawe like you, Urosangylea." With a respectable bow, the young spirit slipped back into the crowd, gift in tow.
