Summer was drawing closer and closer and the different villages around Tendaji were beginning to plan their summer festivals. It was a tradition in Tendaji - to celebrate the Gods every year in the summer when spirits were high and food was at its most abundant.
All the races had their own gods to celebrate, whatever those might have been, and every person had their own feelings one way or the other.
[ What did they mean to you? With the summer fast approaching, it must be somewhere (no matter how small) on everyone’s thoughts. And what are your thoughts on the other culture’s gods? ]
By the time they had truly started the trek through Tale the summer months were coming to an end. Autumn hadn't truly come around just yet which gave the locals just enough of an excuse for one last summer bash. They were close enough to Isd that the temperature was cooler than most areas of Tale, but that didn't mean that the locals dressed in anything other than skintight frocks. Hargitt had become so accustomed to seeing covered skin that seeing so much of it exposed made him feel a little uncomfortable. Was that just his age getting to him or his upbringing?
The question remained of whether they should stay in Isd until the festival was over, possibly having to deal with all of this, or try traveling through it? A few kids ran past and accidentally bumped into Hargitt. The biggest of the three stopped long enough to apologize before taking the smaller ones hands. They were obviously hybrids, but the thought of little boys just made him miss his younger brothers. Maybe one or two of them would come by...?
"How do you want to go about this?"

She'd gotten better at dealing with people and crowds. Honestly she did. Mostly. But the festivities saw her hovering very close to Hargitt like a life line. The shifter even had a slightly hold on the man's shirt if he paid enough attention to notice. (She was trying to hide it.) When the children came along and bumped into her friend she was quick to step fully behind him and away from the kids, using him as a body shield.
When the kids left she took a second to look at her friend before she heard his question. Raja couldn't help the small sigh that left her. "Do you feel like dealing with people? I wouldn't mind a bit of food if you're alright with the crowd." No one would know if she said that because she actually wanted to eat something or if she was giving Hargitt a chance to enjoy the festivities.

"Do we have a choice?" He snorted. If they wanted anything in this village they were going to have to fight through bodies so he might as well use his size to their advantage. Keeping his half-stepped position infront of her, the huntsman started to gingerly lead Rajani through the crowd. He took special care to move toward areas that weren't as packed as others; even if that meant taking the longer route to getting food.
Still, she was incredibly tense and while he didn't particularly like crowds he was much more at 'ease'. So, instead of focusing on how bad it was, he spoke. "Do you see that man over there? By the aldabuk pen?" Hargitt motioned his head to a younger Talean, one with a multitude of piercings. "How many more earrings do you think he can get on his ears before they fold over?"

When he'd asked her about someone she gained a mildly annoyed expression. What did Rajani care about someone over by a beast pen? But she looked regardless. Then the question about his ears followed and she couldn't help but snort at Hargitt. "Get some heavier jewelry and they'll fold over now." The shifter herself had no piercings. She'd always been worried that if she got some then they could be used against her during a fight. Some idiot might get too grab happy and rip them out.
With a shake of her head she returned her eyes to looking at the crowd but her friend had distracted her enough that some of the tension in her body had eased. Rajani still held onto his shirt but she wasn't as stiff as they walked. "Any preference on what to eat?" She'd never been picky since sometimes things were limited when she worked. There was a time when she'd even snacked on tree bark to hold her over until she got to the next town.

Hargitt couldn't help snickering. She had a point. With the amount of piercings he had on the upper ear the slightest weight shift would have him looking like a Yaeli by the end of the day. It was always something of an oddity for Hargitt to see piercings, anyway, so the leafling didn't stand a chance. Even if Sauti wasn't nearly as cool as Zena it was generally a bad idea to have exposed metal so it wasn't as common where he lived. Of course, that didn't stop people from getting them, his brothers included, but the results varied.
"Meat." Hunting in Tale was different than hunting in Sauti. Hargitt was smart enough to know that it was going to be harder until he adjusted, and while he was no stranger to going without substantial meals that didn't make him any less grumpy about it. "I'd like to find a stew and hull out a big loaf of bread to put it in."

Getting her best friend to be amused was always a plus. It also helped her to relax some more. Rajani looked up at him when he gave his preference for food before she rolled her eyes at him. "Of course." The shifter made a motion with her free hand for him to lead the way. "Follow your nose then. I'm not opposed to a nice stew." She really wasn't picky about food. Unless it was obviously rotten or spoiled then she wouldn't risk eating it.
"Did you want to watch the... festivities?" She almost cringed at the last word but she didn't want to be a spoil sport for Hargitt if he had plans to see something. Raja was willing to deal with the crowd for her friend. After all, she knew she could handle herself if it came down to it and Hargitt wouldn't let anything happen to her just as she wouldn't let anything happen to him. Having a best friend had its advantages.

Hargitt didn't need to be told to go after food; he was already in the process before she even made the gesture. He was, after all, a large man and if he was able to afford food then he most certainly was going to get it.
"No." He knew she wasn't keen on being there and honestly, he wasn't either. At most he was looking over the surrounding heads, trying to see any familiar shoulder spikes in the group..."I thought...I'd heard that Tivis had come to Tale." And he wanted to see his baby brother. While Hargitt didn't speak of his family often Tivis was a special spot for him. The boy had practically clung to him before he'd left home with his ex, but that had been several years ago...

Well at least she wouldn't have to sit through the festivities. When he mentioned Tivis her slightly pointed ears gave a small twitch to the name. Rajani knew who that was. Her gaze shifted from the people around them to Hargitt for a second of silence before she was back to looking forward. "Did you want to drop me off somewhere so you can go look?" If he didn't have her tailing him he could move around more freely. And if she was tucked away in a corner then she wouldn't be bothered by the amount of people anyways.
"I would help but I think having some weird shifter girl know his name and try to drag him to see his brother might scare him." Raja offered a smirk to go along with her words.

"Hmm?" Hargitt had finally caught the scent of a soup stall and his brain had shifted to food. By the time he came back to the present his partner was talking nonsense. "Why would I leave you behind? Even if I found him I would want the two of you to meet." Tivis was one of the few brothers Hargitt would actually want her to form a connection with. He would be a good support system for her, someone she could rely on if the need came up, and he was just a good kid in general. Man? He would have been grown by now...
"I doubt he's even here. Just because he's in Tale doesn't mean he's near this village." After spotting the vendor, Hargitt started walking toward their stall. It was an older couple and one that was happily serving eager customers with the most delectable soup he'd smelled. Or was that just because they hadn't had a decent meal in a while? "Besides, he grew up with me as an older brother. Do you think he would scare that easy?"

"Because I'm slow in crowds." She was too busy trying to avoid everyone. Rajani knew she didn't fare too well in crowded places. Not like this. When she noticed he had apparently found a stall that he wanted to go to she made sure to keep stride with him. Not that he could get too far with her having a hold on his shirt.
A small snort left her at his last words though. "Hate to break it to ya, Har, but you aren't all that scary." The shifter had the audacity to smirk up at him. Oh yes, her best friend was like a giant teddy bear to her and she made sure to let him know whenever she could.

He only grunted in comment. The only reason Hargitt was any faster in crowds was because the man had a purpose. As long as he had something to focus on he would use his thick frame to push past the leaflings around him, get what he needed and bail.
Once they reached the stall the older leafling woman looked up at him first, then peered around his back to Rajani. She'd been around for the last bit of Rajani's words and let out a little smile of her own. "Oh, were you trying to be scary, dear? You look more handsome than anything else. If I were a few years younger..."
"A few?" Her husband scoffed, and dipped out some soup into bread bowls for other customers. When he looked back at the pair he nodded to his wife. "Try thirty."
"ANYWAY, what can I get for you two? We've got a creamy sailscale chowder that is best when topped with some roati cheese and some aldabuk stew."
The older woman was easily half his height, crouched and with more wrinkles than any working person should. Still, when she looked up at him he could see a brightness there that hadn't diminished with age. Clearly she would have tried something if she'd been physically able...
"Stew for me...and whatever she wants."

She caught the grunt he gave in response but was too amused to really care. Amusement that simply grew when the woman added to what she said. Rajani ended up trying to cover up her chuckling by burying her face into Hargitt's arm but it didn't really work. Oh, how joyous it was to hear someone else say her best friend wasn't one lick of scary. The shifter gently gave a pat or two to the blond's arm. "See, told ya."
Rajani liked the woman somewhat now because of that. So when it was asked what they'd like she grinned. "Stew for me as well."
And just to pick on the windling she gave him a playful nudge. "Can't take you anywhere can I?"

Hargitt rolled his eyes and physically leaned his head away from Rajani. Even if he couldn't see her laughing at him he could feel it against his arm. When he eventually did look back at her it was with the closest version of a pout he could muster.
"You could always do us both a favor and hit me in the face next time." He grumbled. "Maybe a broken nose would do the trick."
"No no, dear; there's just something about you." The older smiled and settled two bread bowls full of fresh stew in front of them. "Now that's two shillings a piece."
Hargitt paid the woman and lifted his meal, happy to get as far away from this festival as possible now that he'd got what he wanted. Sticking around longer than this might mean more unwanted attention...and more ridicule from Rajani.

Seeing his pout made her bite her bottom lip in a truly epic effort to not laugh harder. Rajani loved her best friend, she really did, but this was too amusing for her not to laugh. When he mentioned hitting him in the face she shook her head. "Oh no, we can't injure that cute face. How else would we make money?" Teasing him was making her feel more at ease at least.
The shifter took her stew when it was presented and grinned. "Thanks." With Hargitt paying she didn't have to worry about it but figured she'd buy their next meal.
With that in mind she dug in and made sure to keep close to the windling while searching the crowd for someone that looked familiar.
