Summer Festivals

Solo or RP Format
Counts as 5 RP growth Points
Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7

Summer was drawing closer and closer and the different villages around Tendaji were beginning to plan their summer festivals. It was a tradition in Tendaji - to celebrate the Gods every year in the summer when spirits were high and food was at its most abundant.

All the races had their own gods to celebrate, whatever those might have been, and every person had their own feelings one way or the other.

[ What did they mean to you? With the summer fast approaching, it must be somewhere (no matter how small) on everyone’s thoughts. And what are your thoughts on the other culture’s gods? ]

Mirin couldn’t help herself. It was the summer festival in Jauhar and that meant really just one thing to her. Sailscale shopping. Usually she liked to catch her own, but she hadn’t been to Sauti in a long long time and the festivals usually held the best deals. Not to mention she got to liberate whatever poor sailscales were being held hostage by the traders. She could usually tell which ones were the worst off and needed her help. Obviously not all traders mistreated their animals though, so some she skipped over to let someone else take them off their hands.

Mirin buzzed through the square, looking from place to place until she could see the live animal sales on the other side of the festivities.

Amoe felt like her eyes were just plain saucers, taking in all of the lighting and crystals from this place called Jauhar. It only took her forever to get out of Oba, what with all the stopping for water in such a waterless place. She thought back to the experience of almost dying and shook her head. She wasn’t a fan, and she wouldn’t be back to Oba, even if she had to swim her way out of Tendaji herself. Thankfully she had traveled with Varren and he had been interested enough in her journey that he had come with her even to Jauhar.

He was off doing his own thing, and had left Amoe to explore the festival by herself. She had barely made it out of the inn when she heard the squawking and hissing and whatnot of the animal traders of Tendaji. They didn’t really have anything like this in Kahikina, under the water there weren’t many things that made good pets or even made sounds when approached.

Mirin rushed through the crowd, bouncing on her toes as she jogged over to the animal pens. She could see the leathery wings of the crates she was after but before she could get to it she ran face first into a very tall, very scaly individual. ”Whoa, sorry, excuse me, but could you get out of the way maybe?” She rambled off, not really paying attention and already trying to skirt around them.

”Oh! Hey, sorry I didn’t see you there.” Amoe started apologizing to the girl who seemed oh so determined to get somewhere. Amoe had just been walking without looking where she was going, and she just didn’t even notice such a small girl coming her way, she must have just walked right in her path.

”What are you going to be looking at?” Amoe looked at the small shifter girl with a gleam in her eyes. A local to show her the way, perfect. She was already trying to insert herself into the girl’s night and wanted to tag along. ”Can I come with?”

Mirin finally shook her head and looked up at the very large woman in front of her. She didn’t even think she had seen any alkidike that were that tall. Who was this? ”Oh wow.” She was already thrown for a loop. ”I’m looking for sailscales. Uh… yeah, I guess you can come with me. Just move it.” She scooped her hand to the side, gesturing for this very tall, somewhat intimidating person to get out of her way, and rushed past her, though now her eyes kept glancing over to the kahikinan.

She had never seen anyone like that before. ”What… where did you come from?” She asked the girl as she rushed over to the other crates. She would do business while she talked of course.

Amoe grinned, putting her hands behind her head and setting a leisurely pace through the crowd following the girl. Her long legs were pretty good at keeping up with no effort. ”Hey - sailscales - that sounds neat. What are they?” She asked the girl.

”I’m Amoe, I’m just blowing through these parts, being nosy.” She offered to the shifter girl.

That didn’t answer what Mirin had asked, but she brushed it off for now. She needed to do business. ”You. I’ll take the lot. How much?” She nearly barked at the trader with the scalsail pen. These guys looked just sad, they had picked holes in their wings from stress and were thin looking. ”Don’t think I don’t know what they’re worth either.” She stared down the guy until he responded with what she considered an appropriate amount. She reverted to Jauharan and started bickering with him, trying to talk him down on price. ”They’re sick, no reasonable person would pay more.” She said in common again. The guy sighed and pursed his lips, while Mirin handed over the money and grabbed the three small crates.

”Here, you can help me get these.” She handed over two of the crates to the large woman. ”I’m Mirin, but you still didn’t answer my question.”

Amoe scratched her head. What question didn’t she answer? Oh, right. She reached for the two crates being held out to her and grabbed them, peering into the small spaces inside. ”I’m from Pale’iko, what about you? From here?” Amoe responded nonchalantly.

”Now you didn’t answer my question. I’m guessing these are sailscales?” She squinted into the little crate again, taking a good look at what was inside.

Pale’iko? It didn’t sound familiar at all. Though Mirin supposed that was probably because it was a place in that new continent everyone had been talking about… Kahi..kina? Whatever that place was. She had never seen one of these people before and they did not disappoint. ”Yeah. These are sailscales.” She trekked through the crowd, making her way toward her cart she brought with her. It was a haul this time.

”These are not in good condition, they’re not supposed to look like this.” She added, before this fish person got the wrong idea. ”They come from Sauti, but these poor guys need someone to love them.” She grinned toward the girl and placed the crate she was carrying onto the cart.

Amoe chewed on her words on their way out, thinking it over out loud. ”So… you rehabilitate them? Do you sell them again afterwards? That guy didn’t seem too happy with your price, were you ripping him off?” She rambled out, pointing with her thumb back toward the stalls they had come from.

Amoe thought it would have made a good plan herself, buy low sell high, right? That’s what people were always saying around her anyways, she didn’t have any experience with merchants or the likes.

Mirin cocked an eyebrow at Amoe’s words. ”No, that would just be cruel.” She shook her head. ”I rehabilitate them, yes, but I keep them. I’m somewhat of a collector.” Mirin thought back to the ones she had at home already. Twelve sailscale in her care, and these made fifteen. She didn’t know when she would stop, she had no plans to breed the ones she had, so she supposed she eventually had to do something with them. ”Do… you want a sailscale? Are you even able to keep a familiare alive? Like, you wouldn’t let them die would you?”

Amoe was shocked that the shifter girl would even think that she - someone she just met - could be trusted with a sailscale of her own. ”Oh, wow! Um, well, thank you for the vote of confidence there, but no. I don’t think me and these guys would mix too well. And besides… I’m living off of the luck of the gods and the good will of others right now.” She said with a laugh, pulling out her pockets to show they were empty.

Mirin felt herself relax as Amoe turned her down. Well, at least she didn’t have to worry about slimming down her group anytime soon. It was a halfhearted offer to begin with. ”No worries, probably for the best.”

She put her hands on her hips and looked up at the tall kahikinan girl. ”Well, I’m Mirin, nice to meet you I guess. If you’re in these parts for a while come and look me up. I can show you some healthy sailscales.”

Amoe offered out a hand to the girl in front of her. ”Nice to meet you Mirin. Amoe. So don’t forget, right?” She winked to Mirin.

She didn’t know how long she was going to be in Jauhar, but maybe she would take the little shifter girl up on her offer some other day. Tonight was for the festival, and she would figure the rest out later.
