Kaiko 1Kaiko stretched before he opened his eyes, going slowly because most of what he was bumping into was Ikaika wrapped around him like a great swamp python. How he slept like that was beyond him. Idly he fiddled with Ikaika's hair while the other slept like the dead. So cute when he was sleeping. Light blazed down through the water illuminating their world with swirls of wonder. He gazed slowly around the bedroom until his eyes landed on something that had not been there the night before. "Ikaika... wake up." He hissed not daring to believe what he saw.

Ikaika 1Ikaika inhaled, slowly drifting up from sleep. "What is it Kaiko?" His voice was extra deep and scratchy in the mornings and he could barely croak. His eyes slitted open and he looked around the room..what were those? "Oh...OH!" He sat bolt upright. "We have...we have....eggs. Gods, eggs!" After that he seemed to run out of words completely. He looked at the eggs then he looked at Kaiko.

Kaiko 2They arose and looked after the eggs as best as they could before sitting down together to breakfast. Their first breakfast as expectant parents. The air felt charged with anticipatory lightning. "Well I guess the addition to the house won't be wasted now. I hope all the eggs survive, I know not all of them will but I wish they would. Though that would make us extremely busy." They carried on discussing every possible topic. It took quite some time.

Ikaika 2"What do you think about secret hand signals, so that they can't get the jump on us by playing us against each other. Of course there is the possibility we may have utterly sweet children with no stress. I'm kind of hoping for a bit of spirit myself that way they won't be as vulnerable." He was a very practical person. It did not occur to him that they were not even born yet. In fact there was a very long wait ahead of them but he was unwilling to sit and not speculate. That was the best part. His stomach pained him. He was so hungry. He rushed off to the meal prep area to start on a fishy breakfast. "Have you thought about relocating to one of the coastal caves?"

Kaiko 3"You know that is probably a really good idea." It would be more enclosed and way safer from the things that lurk in the deep. It would also feel really good to be somewhere dark again. Sometimes the brightness gave him headaches. "I'll start on planning that, then I will trust you to find a suitable cave as well." Ikaika had a swamp lurker's eye for perfect crevasses. Kaiko had caught him napping in the strangest places and poses. He got up to help his mate prepare breakfast. When they were finished eating, Kaiko started a fire on their little private beach to dry some fish for later.n He knew Ikaika loved firelight.

Ikaika 3Ikaika was drawn to the flames like a month and the moment he heard the crackle he smiled. Kaiko sure knew how to get on his good side. He grunted as he sat down before the flames. "Time for a tale or two as it twer?" He smirked at the reaction he got to his overuse of t words. Kaiko had had the fun tutored right out of him when it came to words. His use was always precise, logical and as correct as possible. Ikaika loved to break the rules. But a fire called for a story, like dry earth called for rain. "Once there was a girl who lived on the coast, she had flowing blond hair and eyes the color of the sea. And just as changing. It was said that she held the heart of the ocean in her chest. She grew to be so beautiful that all in the land wanted to be hers. But she would only choose one. Many men swam out to see not to be seen again. But there was one who returned with a seamonster as a gift. It was said that the other's mistakes had been to use brawn. To try and wrestle the beast into submission. This man however had used song and brought the animal back alive. Thus fulfilling a hidden magical clause of the deal. Death and brutality was seldom the answer. She married him and they had many well meaning beautiful children who to this day still stand as protectors for the wilds."

Kaiko 4Kaiko hung on every word and grinned as the tale finished. "Oh that's a good one! I can't wait to do this with our children." He scratched his chin. "Let's see, a story huh, hmm." "Well there was one my Mom taught me, coming from her people. I look more like her with Dad's eyes. So she felt it pertinant that I know the tails so that if a family member of hers were to visit they wouldn't get a bad opinion on me or whatever." He was going to be such a better parent. "There once was a child born on a moonless night with skin as black as midnight with crystal blue eyes. This child was abnormal in that it was a shapeshifter. He was destined to bring about change to the world for while he was in animal shape he could commune with the other species. They asked him to respect their lands and that is why Moakai only live in a few spots and protect the deep. Without that blessing we might have been eaten by sea monsters long ago." It was his favorite story and one of the few that his parents taught him that made any sense at all.

Ikaika 4"Stories are good, but I can't wait to go fishing with them. It was always my favorite thing, from as far back as my memories of my parents go." It occured to him that with kids he too might get a second chance at a normal childhood, even if that was through the lens of an adult. He inhaled deeply. "Just think about the look on their face when they tie into their first catch." It would be truly epic. He knew he was the most excited at that point when the fish tugs and you feel like that last hour of effort might finally come to fruition. The fight was more fun than eating the thing..unless it was fish stew. He was a sucker for fish stew.

Kaiko 5He smirked at his mate who had the "Im thinking of food expression on his face." "Are you that hungry already? Why didn't you a) make something, or at least b) tell me." He rose and placed some preskewered fish to roast over the coals. He also started to heat a pot of oil on the flames so he could fry some of the fish which was his favorite way to eat makerel which is what they had caught on a side trip not too long ago. "This will be good soon enough."

Ikaika 5Ikaika sighed, his stomach rumbling audibly. It was nice to not be the only cook in the household. Kaiko was the best at cooking over a fire, even though he mostly sat looking away from the flames as the brightness still bugged him. Ikaika had no such issue and felt most at home next to a crackling and merry fire. This was how he would gladly spend every night of the summer, with a book by the fire, cooking fish with his mate. Soon to be with their children as well. Life was good. "Not a murmur from your parents?" He sighed. "You are sure they will not come after our children because of my menehune tainted blood right?"

Kaiko 6"It is extremely likely that the mixed nature of our children's heritage will negate all interest they would have had in a completely Moakai child. It is their loss and all of mine to gain. The more they look like you the safer they will be. If our child looks mostly Moakai then I will have concern because they could try to lie." The drama that would ensue would be horrendous, something better left avoided. Ikaika's family drama was non existant so they kind of lived in a bubble of stress with no solid grandparents. Kaiko thought they might be able to lean a little on their neighbors though, they had gotten very lucky and had made many friends. In particular a water and iceling family.

Ikaika 6"Well lets hope they get my good looks then," he winked at Kaiko. It was the best news, knowing that because of him their children would not go through the same fate that had befallen their poor Father. Ikaika hoped that one day he would be able to replace all the negative memories with good ones. For now he was there for Kaiko in whatever way Kaiko required. So long as Ikaika also got spoiled once in a while which Kaiko did a good job of. Their partnership had a good balance in it, with chores and respect shared as well as affection given. He couldn't be happier. In face he was pretty sure his eyes were watering a little anyway.

Kaiko 7"You know I was thinking we should celebrate with a proper hunt. Do you want to come after Kelepsy with me?" Kelepsy were a type of white and silver fish that was highly prized as a delicacy among many who roved the sea. They were often found near the bottom in medium deep waters. Both of them adored the flesh from it and it was always a treat especially because it was kind of a pain in the but to catch.

Ikaika 7"You know I'm always game for a hunt. And maybe.." He almost vibrated with excitement. "Maybe we will catch of those with rainbow scales and we can make enough money to get them special things for when they are born." He was going to love shopping for their littles. The rainbow scaled fish were rare but were popular decor when stuffed a sign of prestige at hunting and for their fish scale leather craft. They sold for a significantly higher amount than regular.

Kaiko 8"I'll grab the gear and get out of here." He was very excited it was less light down there and his eyes would get a welcome break with the long long hunt that was ahead of them. He felt lighter than he had in a long time like there was hope for something new and exciting and wonderful again. He grinned in anticipation, the one that usually made Ikaika's heart skip a beat when he saw it. To be fair Ikaika did that to him as well. He was particularly cute when he was sleeping and the frown lines disappeared from between his brows.
