Aquamarine crouched in front of another motionless body, down another dark alley, on another otherwise unremarkable spring evening. A purple orb of energy floated above one palm, recently drained from the body in question.

Like many of his victims, this one reeked of alcohol and boasted clothing that spoke of money. Aquamarine considered rifling through the man’s pockets for a wallet, not to steal anything, simply to put a name to the face. Ultimately, he decided against it. The more he drained, the less he cared. This man would awaken later, weak and disoriented, but once his troubles were dealt with, he would go back to his life as normal. Perhaps, years from now, he would forget this night even happened.

“Thanks for the donation,” Aquamarine muttered, sending the ball of energy into his subspace pocket.

This time when Sessrumnir powered up, he wasted no time in catching the General. He was still several yards away, having been waiting a couple blocks away when he first felt the General’s aura flare to life. He seemed to be too late in stopping him from taking the man’s energy, but perhaps he hadn’t taken their starseed yet.

He didn’t say anything at first. He knew the General could feel his aura, but maybe he wouldn’t understand what was happening with the storm around him. Sessrumnir just wanted to observe. He was fairly certain he’d seen this General before, although maybe not as a General. Was this one of the captors Valhalla and Ganymede spoke of?

Sessrumnir prepared himself for the General to either teleport away completely, or teleport nearby. Unless he could tolerate the storm for more than ten seconds, then he would find himself under a cloudy, but rainless, night sky again.

Quote:
Stormglass Magic

Same as with his Squire stage, to activate the magic of his weapon, Sessrumnir must 'capture' someone within the storm glass.

Once 'inside', not only is their hearing and vision affected by storm-like conditions, but other senses are taken over for about 40 seconds. The person caught inside the glass not only sees and hears a storm around them, but can feel the wind rushing by and rain pouring down on them, even if it's not really there in reality, but only inside the glass. After Sessrumnir focuses on his attack, he can choose to cause a flash of lightning and crash of thunder to happen over the head of whoever is being affected by the attack.

It all happens inside their head, so people around them will have no idea what's going on, save for Sessrumnir and anyone close enough to see the glass with the storm raging inside.

Aquamarine sensed the flare of another aura burst into being nearby, but didn’t have the chance to investigate before the storm surrounded him.

Rain pelted his face, and the wind billowed, whipping around him. Immediately, he knew it was some sort of magic; there truly was no other explanation for the sudden change in weather. Aquamarine stood and considered bearing it for the duration of the attack, but ultimately deemed the idea ill advised. He could barely make out anything through the raging storm and didn’t relish the vulnerability.

With a muttered curse, Aquamarine teleported out of the alley, reappearing on the other side of the street. The storm did not follow him, nor could he see any evidence of it when his gaze fell upon his previous location.

A Knight stood nearby, decked out in green and brown, with ridiculous wings on his head. Aquamarine could not make out the symbols on the Knight’s outfit without drawing closer, but something about him looked vaguely familiar.

Jupiter, if Aquamarine had to guess.

“Have we met before?” Aquamarine asked. “Or do you always react that way when you stumble across an energy donation?”

“Don’t know,” Sessrumnir responded. “You all tend to look the same after a while.”

If he had met this General before, it likely would have been years ago before he’d reached that rank. He couldn’t help but wonder if it would hurt this General’s ego to say he didn’t know him at all.

Not that it mattered.

“Is that what you call it? An energy donation? You stole that man’s energy and left him to the elements. I’m supposed to be okay with that?” he scoffed, taking aim with his stormglass once again to try and catch the General in another storm.

It was those damned wings on his head, Aquamarine decided. He’d seen a similar feature on another Knight years ago.

This time, when the storm came upon him again, Aquamarine stood his ground and summoned his rapier. Through the howling wind and pouring rain, he kept his guard up, searching what little he could see of his surroundings for any sign of an ambush. If this Knight’s magic worked like all the others, it would run out before long.

“I know why you look so familiar,” Aquamarine announced, raising his voice to reach the Knight. Even then, the storm was so loud he could barely hear himself. “There was another Knight who looked like you. Valhalla, I think his name was. He looked so pretty all wrapped up in chains. It’s a shame we lost him. He might’ve made a better agent than a Knight.”

Sessrumnir didn’t wait for the General to teleport this time. He was very much aware how long his magic lasted, so as soon as it was obvious that the General was encased in the storm, he moved positions so he could approach from the side instead of from straight on. Their auras were too strong to pinpoint exact location, so he would use that to his advantage.

As soon as he got too close for the magic to work, Sessrumnir dashed forward in an attempt to catch the General somewhat off guard, although he doubted he would stay still for long. Which was why as soon as the storm illusion broke, he brushed his thumb against the fang hanging from his belt.

His wolf summon materialized on the opposite side of the General in something of a pincer move, both lunging to land a punch, or bite.

Especially after the General confirmed that he was one of those who had hurt Valhalla and Ganymede and countless others.

Aquamarine expected the attack. He might not be able to pinpoint the exact location of the Knight’s aura at close range, but it didn’t take a genius to figure out how he might retaliate. Aquamarine assumed the attack would come from behind, or from either side, so he readied himself to defend against a wild swing from the Knight’s weapon.

He did not expect the <******** dog,” Aquamarine swore.

He had milliseconds at most to compensate. Being thrown off his guard affected his concentration too much to teleport immediately, so he dodged what he could, ducking the punch (due to luck more than skill) before whirling to confront the wolf, which he deemed the greater threat due to the unpredictable nature of it.

Aquamarine lashed out with his rapier, going for the head.

When his brain caught up with this turn of events, he was able to let his body go through the motions long enough to reestablish the miniscule concentration he needed as a General to get himself to safety.

Moments later, he vanished, reappearing up on the roof of one of the shops lining the street.

“Nice trick,” he called down to the Knight, observing the wolf from a safer vantage point. “Fortunately, I have better ones.”

Shrewdly, he peered down at the Knight, judging his build and temperament. “You’d make a better agent, too, I think. I’d wager you’re more competent than some of the ones we already have. I don’t suppose I could interest you in a position.”

Sessrumnir recalled his summon just as the General was aiming to strike at her, rendering her nothing but ethereal particles by the time the rapier slashed downward. It turned out that the General soon remembered how to teleport and flitted away like the coward he was.

“I’ll pass,” he growled, holding onto his stormglass in one hand. He hated that the Negaverse could just teleport wherever they wanted. He held up his hands as if to challenge the General to come back down, but knew he wouldn’t.

“Coward. You’ll steal from the people who live in this city, torture and kill Senshi and Knights, but you can’t fight, can you? That little rapier of yours? Is it actually sharp or just foil?”

“Would you like to find out?”

Aquamarine would normally keep his distance, stay on the roof and let the Knight throw his little tantrum down below, but he was fun to rile.

He teleported again, reappearing behind the Knight to press the tip of his rapier against his back — not to puncture, but he exerted enough pressure that the Knight would feel it, and know that it could easily draw blood.

“A thin blade like this, do you think it could pierce that chainmail you’ve got under your tunic?” he asked. “Even with your armor, there are still so many vulnerable areas left exposed.”

Sessrumnir watched as the General teleported away and felt the sharp tip of his rapier against his back. He quickly jerked away, swinging his stormglass in the direction of where the General had been behind him, but he expected him to already teleport away again.

“Stop teleporting and fight me. We can find out,” he growled, looking around for the next place the General would appear, keeping an eye over his shoulder just in case.

He would call out his wolf again, but he didn’t want her energy used up so quickly.

Indeed, Aquamarine vanished, reappearing on the roof of another building across the street. Teleporting so frequently over such a short period of time was a bit tiring for him considering he didn’t often exert the effort, preferring to avoid what fighting he could, but it was not impossible, and certainly worth the effort this time if it meant antagonizing this Knight.

“No,” he said, peering over the edge of the roof. “I don’t think so. I only pick a fight with larger men when they’re not in a position to retaliate. Shackled. In chains. That sort of thing.”

He smirked, pleased with himself, and asked, “Do you have a name, Knight?”

“Ezekiel. ******** you.”

Sessrumnir blamed his brother. All of his stupid memes and YouTube videos that he watched and shared with him over the years. Some of them were just plain stupid, but others made him laugh.

And he sure as hell wasn’t going to tell this little s**t his name. He wasn’t even trying to make a joke. It was just the first name that came to mind. He was too angry at the thought of this bitchy little General laughing about the time his brother was kept in captivity.

Aquamarine snorted, endlessly amused by this man’s cheek.

“I know you’re lying,” he said, unconcerned. He hadn’t expected to get an honest answer anyway. “All right, then. Keep your secrets.”

Entertaining as all this was for him, Aquamarine could only keep it up for so long before his interest began to wane. The Knight was worth keeping an eye on, but Aquamarine had people to see (Jet), places to go (their office), and things to do (Jet again). He couldn’t spend all night flitting from one side of the street to the other, occasionally poking the Knight with his rapier to see what the man’s reaction would be.

But Aquamarine could leave him with a parting gift. A few youma should do the trick nicely.

He summoned them — dark, vicious creatures with sharp teeth and long claws.

“I’m Aquamarine,” he offered to the Knight as the youma prowled. “Remember me. I’ll be keeping an eye on you.”

Aquamarine smirked again, and with the flick of his hand, he told the youma, “Keep him occupied.”

Then he vanished completely.

Sessrumnir gritted his teeth, seething as General Aquamarine summoned youma and vanished. Of course, because the Negaverse was full of cowards who fought from a distance because they knew they had the advantage. Their teleportation was really a problem. And he really didn’t want any more scars trying to figure out weaknesses.

With a sweep of his thumb over the fang on his belt, the giant canine was resummoned by his side, teeth bared at the youma that circled them. This wouldn’t be the worst fight they would have to deal with, but it was annoying to think that there was someone like Aquamarine causing trouble.

“Ready?” he needlessly asked the wolf, then worked to fight off the lunging youma.
