▰▰▰ Lightning Empire & Kumoito
Much of the history of Kumoito belongs to the histories of Kumogakure. The ambitions of a shinobi doctor who was appointed into the seat of Raikage managed to organize and inspire a campaign to finally free the Lightning and eight other nations on the continent of oppressive, anti-shinobi forces. The last Raikage, Shiro Chosokabe unified the lands of Lightning, Water, Sky, Frost, Hotsprings, Rice Patties, Waterfall, Grass, and Rain through combined efforts made up of his own, his friends, and numerous allies. The other nations joined for the sake of peace, prosperity, and to avoid perishing in the chance of somehow becoming quarreling neighbors and gain an enemy like Shiro the Usurper.
“Following the war against the UHV in Seizan, cultists within the village itself kidnapped the host of the nibi and released it, prompting the military of Kumogakure to respond by sealing it and wiping out the colonists. This put them in a prime position to look as though they were working with the enemy, through trickery from Shiro directing the Anbu to plant evidence to prove it. When the Daimyo caught wind of these actions, he declared them a rogue state. In the short conflict that followed, he was assassinated and Shiro took control of his empire as the new lightning Daimyo. Instead of simply resting on his laurels, Shiro and the Kumogakure military joined a joint force that warred with the UHV and claimed the small villages they held as his own vassal states. Eventually, Otogakure too was taken by him. Kirigakure, after turmoil within Kirigakure reached a fever pitch after their own UHV conflict and then their own Daimyo deposing the Mizukage Inka. Rather than fight a bloody conflict, Inka chose to save his people by willingly abdicating the seat of power and taking those who would follow him to the Lightning Country, where a deal was struck with Shiro. So long as Inka policed his ninja and the civilians who followed him, he would have a place in the new empire.”
The events that created the Empire fell into place within the first years of its own existence. Shiro commanded the combined forces of Kumogakure, Kirigakure, Otogakure, and the claimed nations to form the new Hidden Storm Village to fortify and unify power. As for Kumogakure, Shiro quickly directed his desire to bolster the heart of his new empire into a civilization worthy of being the central hub. On the foundations of the office of the Raikage, Kumoimine Keep began construction and the rest of Kumogakure followed suit with newer infrastructure and updated standards to greet the new era. The village was prospering and its prosperity flowed throughout the Lightning country. The neighboring lands benefiting widely from the takeover after the combined efforts of the growing empire eradicated traces of the UHV.
Shiro appointed the chunin Unki Amano, one of his many allies who assisted him in reclamation efforts, to mind the well being of the sprawling village of Kumogakure while the militant Emperor saw to finalizing the outermost borders of the Lightning Empire. Within a year’s time from the Empire’s official founding the Hidden Cloud village was renamed “Kumoito” to recognize its growth as a flourishing city. Kumoito saw similar modern developments somewhat like its Village Hidden among the Storm but with the imposing dignity required for an imposing imperial capital. With Kumoito’s growing prosperity, for wide scale betterment and peace, many of the clans of Kumogakure gave their support to Shiro. Some clans gained noble status. Many nobles, who were once magistrates in service to the previous Daimyo, all throughout Lightning Country came flocking to Kumoito to pledge their loyalty to the new Emperor to stay in his favor as his wartime efforts bred progress.
Thus far, the Lightning Empire has endured ten years of its own share of trials with losses and is able to boast prosperity despite it all.
