Charlotte ran almost the whole way to the apartment that her siblings shared after leaving Caldonite, and by the time she arrived, she was dreadfully out of breath, and knocked on the door with shaking hands, sinking to the ground after a moment, trying to get her heart to settle and her breathing to even out...at least a little bit.
Truthfully, she knew that there was nothing that Kelly or Leander could do to help her but...she just wanted to see them...to get a hug and just...to forget about all of this powered nonsense for a minute or two.
...It sounded so nice.
Maybe they would have some ice cream...and she could spend the night. It would be nice to be with them again...it had been so stupidly long...and she didn’t like being apart.
Drawing her phone from her pocket, she started typing out a text message for their mother, letting her know that she’d be staying at a friend’s house but…
...maybe it would be better to wait to make sure she could really spend the night.

Someone knocking on the door was an almost completely unfamiliar sound for Leander, who wasn’t sure if something was wrong. A part of him immediately worried that it was Kelly, in trouble, so he hurried to the door and pulled it open immediately--
And froze.
Okay, Charlotte, Charlotte was still his sister, so ‘big brother senses’ were still working.
Her being on the ground brought him immediate alarm, and he knelt down to scoop an arm around her and help her up. He looked behind her, making sure no one was chasing her, and tried to give her a quick look over to make sure she wasn’t hurt.
“Charl,” he said, carefully pulling her up. “Come inside, what are you doing out here? --Are you okay?”

Charlotte looked up when the door opened and she let out the breath she was trying to get under control with a woosh. Allowing herself to be led inside, she slumped onto the couch. “...I’m okay...I just. I don’t know, Leander...I just feel...all dumb.”
Not that such a thing made any sense. Not that she could really...express herself to her brother…
“Would you be mad if I asked to stay the night? I miss you. You and Kelly...I hate that you’re not at home anymore.”
...Though, they were old enough to be on their own, that was for sure it was just…the way that it had happened…
“I miss you two. And Dad’s always so grumpy and I just. I’m tired. And I want a hug.” Lottie was whining, and she knew it but...it was nothing less than the truth. A hug, ice cream and to watch some dumb cartoon. Maybe Balto. She liked Balto.

He raised a brow at her. “You can spend the night whenever you want, you’re welcome here. You can have my bed if you want. If dad’s giving you a hard time, we’ll just get a three bedroom place, I can move. You and Kells are important to me, I want you taken care of.”
He’d have stayed home for longer if he wasn’t always butting heads with his father, and it wasn’t by his choice that he left his sisters to deal with him. Kelly was with him now, and he didn’t blame her.
“We miss you too. We can go out and get a key tomorrow, just text me if you know you’re coming over so I get a big dinner for us all. Here,” he said, and leaned over to give her a big squeeze. “I love you. You’re not dumb. If you want to talk, I’m all ears. If you want a stress free night, I’ve got a soft blanket, cookies and milk, and whatever we can find on the television. Or whatever you want, just tell me what you need.”

Charlotte looked up at Leander and couldn’t help but smile. “...Thanks, seriously...that...you’re really great. And I don’t understand why some people don’t think so…” Their father. She obviously meant their father but...whatever.
“I’d really like to stay...and I’d really like a key too...that...thank you. That’s really nice...I’m...going to get a fancy one. Does Kelly have a fancy one? I can see her having like...Hello Kitty or something...she’s always liked cute things…”
She snuggled against him, enjoying the feeling of his strong arms and gave a long suffering sigh. “...being an adult is complicated and I hate it...can I just go back to being a kid?” Her face was smooshed against Leander’s chest and she was glad that the sadness in her voice was distorted by it. Going back to being a child did sound utterly wonderful...but honestly? Charlotte would be more than happy to simply go back to not being a page...

Leander didn’t seem offended at the comment that ‘some people don’t think so’. He knew who she was talking about, and he didn’t care. He’d long since given up on ever reconciling with his father, less so after Kelly had moved in.
He hummed a little bit, and just drew her close, mindful to keep her as comfortable as possible. He ran his hand down his back in the reassuring way that he’d always down, but she was bigger now.
“I know, it sucks. I miss it too, but. There’s a lot of good that comes with it. My own place, for example. Nobody can tell me not to eat ice cream for breakfast. But it’s okay, Char, you’re not alone. I know it’s gotta feel that way, being in that house. I hope dad’s not giving you too hard of a time. If you ever want to talk, you know I’m here for you. And if you need me to go beat somebody up, I’ve got two fists ready to go.”

Charlotte let out a soft, almost contented sigh. “...Thank you. I...I think I’m thinking about a few life changes...and um...when I get them sorted out...I can talk to you about them...can’t I? I would really like to talk to you about them…” He was her big brother...and she really...would like someone to know that she was doing this thing...if she decided to do it…
Someone who could...take her in even if...things went terribly wrong. If she had a key to the apartment…
Then at least she would have a home.
...Even if she forgot all about the warmth that resided there.
“I’m not ready to talk about it today...but...I would really like that movie...and to cuddle and just...not think for a little while?” Because that just...sounded like utter bliss.

Leander didn't let go, because he supposed she probably needed it. It was his job as big brother to be supportive--and annoying, so no matter what, he was doing the right thing by giving her a very long hug.
He knew being an adult was complex.
He’d had points in his life where the only people he could talk to were his sisters--and worse, he’d had points in his life where he hadn’t been able to talk to anyone.
“Yeah,” he said, and gave her one more squeeze. “We’ll talk whenever you want to talk. You’ve got my number, and I’ll make sure we get you that key. You need me, I’ll be here. And if you need a movie and enough desserts to keep you here for the next day or so, consider it done. You stay as long as you like. You want to go pick out the movie while I get the dessert, or do you want to stretch out on the couch and I’ll go take care of all of it?”

Finally Lottie pulled away and nodded. “I’ll get the movie. Meet you on the couch!” She could hide here. Run away from everything and just...hide here...and that would be…
Well. That would be utterly wonderful. And one day…
Well. One day she’d run all of this by him and tell him what she was and that she was going to...ah. What she was going to do.
...And that would be that.
Hopefully. But right now…Balto.
