Kaiko 1

They had been together now for quite some time, Kaiko thought as he watched the ocean through slitted eyes.

Was it maybe time for him to be extremely brave and potentially bring a new being into the world? A make your own family if you will. This child when and if it came would bring him such exponential joy. A mix of himself and his mate.

"Ikaika...." He whispered. Voice rich like honey.

His mate slept beside him. Snoring.

Ikaika 1

"Hrrrmmmm?" Ikaika moaned and stretched his long frame out beside his mate who was almost as tall as he was. "What is it?" His voice was scratchy with sleep still and deep.

The sun was just rising and he saw that they had slept in the tide pools again. It was their favorite place to watch the stars at night and he supposed they had fallen asleep before getting up the motivation to go back into their home.

He loved these mornings with a passion. It was just an example of how well they got along together. He lived in bliss.

Kaiko 2

"Well I was thinking that maybe its perhaps...time." He finished lamely. He was not used to doing stuff like this. He was ashamed and embarrased to find himself blushing.

Actually blushing. But this was silly, Ikaika was the closest person he had but well. It was having kids though and that was a biiiig step. Parenthood. He didn't neccessarily feel prepared but he had begun to want it more than anything. To bring someone else into the world.

"Ahem time for a child?" His voice arced up into a high note to denote a question.

Ikaika 2

Oh...ohhhh. Well that had been a bit random. Usually Kaiko was a bit better at expressing what he wanted with more words.

He must be really out of his comfort zone.

Ikaika smirked. Finally time to pounce.

"Are you saying you will finally bear my child?"

He could not keep the glee from his voice. So he didn't bother to try. His smile was blindingly handsome....and he knew it. And so used it rarely.

Kaiko 3

Kaiko wanted very dearly to punch his mate in the shoulder for that look. But he was so handsome he couldn't move. How had he won this mysterious swamp dweller and what crazy adventures would they think up.

He sighed with bliss on the inside and pounced Ikaika for a tickle match, which he always won.

When Ikaika was gasping away he stopped.

"Hah."

He had won again. Ikaika might be taller but in close range Kaiko was stronger.

Ikaika 3

Ikaika loved that Kaiko had thought he had won. He always let him win. That way the next time there was a threat, Ikaika would save his a** in return. And then sweep him off his feet. Yes. Life goals.

"You win, good sir, you win. Take my heart its yours." Ikaika draped his long body gracefully and commically over the ridge and struck an awfully dramatic pose.

He too had a sense of humor. Kaiko brought out the real him.

He heaved a great sigh.

Kaiko 4

"I'm hungry and we are fast running out of supplies. Time for a resource gathering slash shopping trip. Are you game?"

He raised his eyebrow at his mate. These were their favorite days because they could basically make any food they wanted after one.

He inhaled blissfully. It would be a beautiful day and it was fish migration season so it would be easy deliscious pickings along with the side perk of roe. He loved flying fish roe. It was a rare delicacy for his people, reserved for those brave hunters who dared to breach the surface. He wondered what that made him.

"Its toss net season. Want to head to the crags?" It was a bit of a swim but the best shoals congregated there.

Ikaika 4

"Hmmm, yes, that does sound good. I have something I need to pick up at the market anyway so we have to make sure we have time to do actual shopping. I know what your like when there is fish roe involved." He smirked and pinched Kaiko's butt gently.

He had ordered this surprise a long time ago and it had cost him quite a lot. But there was no better beast master around than the iceling who had moved here some time ago. Ikaika often wondered how the man managed to stand the heat of Matori.

Expensive but absolute quality with his choice of color. The beastling was relentless with many mouths to feed at home. Kaiko was going to love it.

Kaiko 5

"Excellent, the last one ready buys lunch." Fishing was hungry work after all and they were not exactly small creatures which meant a matching appetite after decent exertion and fishing was a workout. But oh so much fun and satisfying. He even liked gutting them. The inside was actually less slimey than the outside and easier to hold on to.

He raced for the bathing area while Ikaika ran to catch up.

He won and went through his ablutions. Ikaika would be buying him very expensive sushi.

Ikaika 5

Well he may be stronger but Kaiko was way faster. "Come back!" He yelled playfully after him. "Brat." He said later when Kaiko emerged freshly scented with a smug look on his face.

Ikaika took his turn and then they set out on the long swim to the cave. They had to dodge a few large dangerous sea creatures on the way. Good prey brought out the mega predators. At least it was easy to see them.

He enjoyed watching them from a distance. They were so scarily majestic that he felt like he would never get enough. Kaiko was particularly adept at detecting them. A virtue of being a deeper dweller. Sometimes you couldn't really on your eyes alone.

Kaiko 6

They finally got to the rocks and he scrambled up first to enjoy a good look at the ocean from above to see if he could catch a glimpse of the great shoals that would soon cloud the clear water over the rocks black with fish.

It was his favorite time of year! Besides if they were going to do this he would have to eat well. A child may be on the way soon. His eyes crinkled with glee and he was glad that Ikaika was not looking at him yet.

He was so excited.

"There, there they are, creeping in slow and cautious. Just look at that wave Ikaika, have you ever seen anything so glorious?"

Ikaika 6

Ikaika stared in wonder at how quirky of a mate he had gotten. Kaiko could hide it from the rest of the world but Ikaika got to see. It always made him feel less alone. A miracle for someone who had once lost everyone.

He too clambored up on the rock and clapped a hand on Kaiko's shoulder.

"Be careful this time you know how excited you get when you are fishing."

Kaiko 7
"Yeah, yeah, whatever." he shrugged the taller man off. His eyes fixed on his goal, no better than a Zanteer with its favorite seafood in sight. He was a predator and he had a job to do.

Growing up he had always wondered what foraging in the wild would be like. He had never thought that it would become like an expression, like art to him. He was that passionate. And he did indeed fall off the rock, more than once.Worth it though, worth it. Especially when Ikaika dutifully tended the scrapes once their haul was over. They were tough boys.

Ikaika 7

He was only satisfied when Kaiko had been fully treated. He packed away his supplies and they dropped thir catch off at home before heading off to the market. He left Kaiko standing in the line up for food and snuck off on his own business with the Beast Master.
The exchance went well and he had the satisfaction of watching his mates face as he brought the matching pair of midnight black snaptrotter forward to meet him.

"Do you like them?" he asked shyly. It was the biggest gift he had ever gotten anyone. But now they would have extra protection.

Kaiko 8

"What did you do?" Kaiko could not take his eyes off of the beasts. THey were so beautiful. So well matched were their scales that he had significant trouble telling them a part. Until he noticed that one had yellow eyes and the other a striking lime green.

"Simply magnificent." he said in aww. He was so excited. He had never had anything quite so beautiful.

"Oh Kaiko..." his voice choked as he patted the snoot of the closest snaptrotter, the one with the yellow eyes, before feeling over the body of the second.

"They are in perfect health. See the thick lustrious scales, wow."
