For once, Lenka had a tint to her cheeks when she came home, climbing out of the mirror in her bedroom and clutching the glowstick that Scheelite had given her.
It was late enough that she figured the family was home, and late enough that the girls should either be in bed or still with Raven’s parents. Powering down, Jaina poked her head out of her room and grinned as she saw the light on in the living room. She ran inside and all but launched herself at Jett, grinning up at him.
“How were the in laws? Did you have fun? Did Raven punch either of them? Did you?” Her pink eyes were full of mischief and she laughed, holding up her glowstick and waving it in front of his face.
“I went out tonight. Went to the park I used to haunt...and I made a friend. Someone in the Negaverse of all things...We played on the swings together and it was a whole lot of fun.” This was all said in one breath and then she laughed, looking giddy. “...Is there ice cream?”

Jett seemed a little surprised at the sudden Jaina in his arms, and wrapped his arms around her to catch her when she propelled herself at him. He gave her a hug, and blinked down at her, but couldn’t help the smile that grew just to see her so happy.
“In-Laws are good, nobody got punched,” he said, because that was seriously the least interesting thing she’d said. He was far more interested in whatever friend she’d made.
He didn’t care for the Negaverse, not really, but he trusted that Jaina knew what she was doing. She knew his general feelings on it, and as long as she was happy--as long as she had a friend--he seriously didn’t ******** care, it could have been a youma and he’d have been ecstatic.
“I’m pretty sure we’ve got some ice cream, come on,” he said, and kept an arm around her as he began to drag her towards the kitchen. “Tell me about them, tell me everything. I want to hear all about it.

Jaina nodded and made herself follow Jett, keeping her weight mostly against him as they walked. thinking over what she wanted to say. “Well! His name is Scheelite, and he’s a General, I think. He’s as strong as me, power wise, but you could take him, if you had to. I don’t think you’d have to though. He’s...different than what I think of when I think of the Negaverse? Um...he gave me a glowstick, and...I don’t think...he knew about the Dark Mirror Court? He…”
She scrunched up her face and drew away, grabbing two bowls from the cabinets. “...He seemed scared when I told him? He...said a group of mirror senshi took a lot from him...I’m not sure what he was talking about, but it really...I mean. We were both crying by the end of it all...so he’s a glorified mess too!”
Grabbing two spoons, Jaina sighed. “...But we shared Oreos, so that was fun….and I guess, thinking about that I don’t need ice cream...but I want some.”

Jett nodded as he listened to her, and while he wasn’t sure he could trust any sort of Negaverse agent, especially when he wasn’t sure how vulnerable she still was, at least it sounded like it was a good experience. He didn’t know any Scheelite’s, but he had enough time to dig around. As long as he gave her a glow stick and wasn’t passing around club drugs, he supposed he couldn’t fuss too much.
Jaina was an adult and capable of making her own decisions.
He’d just been attached and didn’t want her to get into any trouble; he couldn’t help but be over protective.
He’d already pulled out her favorite ice cream and was scooping out a gratuitous amount for her.
“We’re living the good life, my dear. I’ll make sure you always have what you need. So celebrate, and take what you want. Especially when it’s right in front of you. Besides, you’ve already had a teary evening. But I’m glad it ended on a good note and you’ve made a friend. Does he like Star Wars?”

Jaina grinned, nodding. “I haven’t asked if he likes Star Wars, but he kind of seems the type? Like, I get a low key nerdy vibe from him...could I have him over for dinner sometime? I’d love for you to meet him...and maybe show him that...Dark Mirror Senshi aren’t all that scary. Or...at least that you and Raven are just…wonderful...you know?”
She took the ice cream, sticking a spoon into it and putting a rather large amount into her mouth, which she looked as though she regretted almost at once, scrunching her face up and reaching to clutch at her head.
...It was delicious! But...brain freeze never was.
“It...felt good to air my frustrations to a stranger...especially when he was...you know. Nice about it and all. I don’t know. It kind of makes me want to go patrolling more. And...that’s a good thing, don’t you think?”
Jaina put another large spoon of the dessert into her mouth, having clearly not learned her lesson at all, and laughed at the pain.

Jett opened his mouth to try and suggest that maybe she not put so much in her mouth at one time--but she was a smart girl, she’d figure it out. He didn’t want to tell her how to live her life.
“I’m glad you have a new friend, a nice one, that you can talk to.”
She wouldn’t always open up to him, but he trusted that her talking to a friend of her own accord was better than her bottling everything up and hiding in her room--and it was nice to see her so excited, to see her connecting with people and making plans and wanting to do things.
“You can invite him over, you live here too. No Negaverse shenanigans in the house, and give me a heads up, but I trust you. You can have friends over. Tell me when you want him over for dinner, and what we should get for dinner, and it’s a done deal.”

Jaina’s eyes absolutely sparkled. “Yeah? Sweet! I think you’ll like him, Jett. He seems really nice. I won’t do any Negaverse shenanigans, I promise. Word of honor as a senshi, duh….I just…” She hesitated and moved a little closer, resting against Jett for a moment. “...He seemed horrified at what had happened to me. He didn’t think it was right either and...that was kind of nice. Having support from a stranger, not another Dark Mirror Senshi who just wants to preach at me for how lucky I am to be a part of this…” She rolled her eyes and took another spoonful of ice cream, holding the spoon in her mouth and doing air quotes.
“Family.” She removed the spoon and scoffed. “When they don’t seem to give a s**t that I lost mine. My real one. And I...I would lose everything if I purified out...Leto was a b***h and did me dirty. I’m glad I have you though. You and Raven...if it wasn’t for you...I’m not sure where I would be. I...would...I don’t know.”
And she didn’t really want to think about it. “...He doesn’t seem like a jerky Negaverse agent...so that’s something. And I promise I won’t let anyone get into trouble. Cross my heart and hope to die.”

Jett listened--patiently. He didn’t agree with what Leto had done, and it stung him more than anything she’d ever done before because Millie had been his friend. He’d known her mother. He’d known her boyfriend. It was hard to see them out and about, looking for Millie and missing her, and knowing that she was alive and well and with him but he couldn't tell them.
“Well, you’re my family,” he said, and wrapped an arm around her to give her a squeeze. “But you have been for a long time. Even before Leto got her grubby hands on you.”
It was no secret that he wasn’t very happy about the whole ordeal, and he still hadn’t forgiven Leto for it. She was going to get them all in trouble, give them problems if she kept corrupting people like that.
“But I’m glad you found someone you can talk to. Someone who doesn’t have something to lose if they don’t manage to sweet talk you. If he does try to get you in trouble, I’m going to have to go give him a piece of my mind. But as long as he’s good for you, I’m happy. You can invite him over some time, if you want. Just make sure you give Raven or I a heads up so we can make sure the girls are looked after.”

“And I’ll always be your family, Jett! You literally can’t get rid of me now.” Jaina took another scoop of ice cream and swallowed before moving to kiss Jett on the cheek, her lips cold.
“I’m glad I found someone too...but you’re still the best, just in case you were wondering.” He had been with her for so long. Such a big part of her life...both powered and not, though she hadn’t realized it until all of this had happened.
“I’m going to go and eat in my room...thank you for talking to me as always. I love you Jett. I’m...not as miserable as I was...I’m trying not to be...I don’t want to keep upsetting you…”
SHe swallowed and cradled her bowl close to her chest before slipping off to her room and closing her door, not really wanting to prolong the conversation any longer...It was all true but…
Jaina still wasn’t as happy as she could have been.
But she was trying.
