Enya stood by the water's edge with her fishing pole at the ready. Today was the day the little elidae was going to come back with a fish big enough to feed her whole family! She'd bragged about it often enough that it almost seemed like a dream. So far, though, she'd only been able to catch little minnows and only when someone else was with her.

"Don't go out there by yourself! Wait until one of us can go with you or ask your cousin to take you."

Mama Pyrrha was worrying over nothing! Enya was a good swimmer and besides, the water wasn't even that deep! Just big enough for fishes. Fish? Fishies? All she needed was some good bait and she'd catch the biggest one ever! Then they'd let her come out here all the time!

Pyanka had decided to go with her sister when their mother had asked her, except she hadn’t gone right away. First, she’d been out collecting rocks and such, painting them was her hobby so she needed lots. When she couldn’t find enough though, she thought that there might be some nice smooth ones by the water's edge and so she decided to join her sister.

“Catch anything big?” She asked her as she moved to stand beside her to look out into the water. Her sister was always trying to catch something big, but no luck so far it seemed.

While she hadn't exactly expected to see her sister there, Enya wasn't mad about it. If anything she was happy to have some company and once Pyanka was close enough she reached out to flick the tip of her ear. "Yeah, I caught you." The little elidae grinned from ear to ear as if her quip were something to be proud of.

Still, when she lifted her pole up and the hook was exposed it was as empty as it usually was. "Other than you, nothing...but I've got a bunch of worms!" Enya reached into a little pouch that hung off her hip and presented a fistful of wriggling critters. "Wanna touch them?"

Pyanka giggled. “You only caught me because I let you.” She stuck her tongue out at her sister.

The Elidae moved closed and poked at the worms wiggling about, she picked one up to inspect it before giving it back to her sister. “Maybe the fishes here don’t like worms?” She said thoughtfully, but as far as she knew that was the only bat they’d ever used.

“I’m here to collect some rocks.” Pyanka looked about before lowering herself on the ground and poking at the dirt. She figured the smoother ones were probably underwater but she was hoping a few had gone to the surface and she’d be able to nab them.

Enya held onto her clutch with a frown. "You think so?" She'd never thought about picky fish before, but that did make sense. "Maybe that's why I'm not catching the big ones..." The child mused, looking at her worms thoughtfully before putting them back into her pouch. "How about patcha roots? I could share mine with them whenever Mama Pyrrha makes them next." It was no secret that Enya hated the stewed roots, but her mother insisted that they were good for her. Maybe if she could catch a big fish with them then her mama would be okay if she didn't eat them all...

"Want some help?" Enya turned to jab the butt of her pole into the soft mud. She obviously didn't have good enough bait to catch a fish today, but she might be able to help her twin.

Pyanka laughed knowing full well where that patcha root suggestion was stemming from. “Don’t tell mama or she might make some extra!” They weren’t her favorite thing in the world either, but she was sure that Pyrrha would take the opportunity to make more if given the chance.

“You can if you want to! I don’t want to keep you from getting the fish.” Pyanka mmm’d slightly, fish for dinner would be really nice too. “How about you help me for a bit and then we try to find you some different baits?” Because well, fish for dinner was just too good to pass up!

Pyanka didn't have to warn Enya twice! She would gladly eat a thousand mud cakes before bringing it up around Pyrrha and with any luck the woman would find something new to drop onto the table.

"S'not like I'm getting any." Enya groused. She was trying not to pout because pouting was for 'little girls' and she was bigger than that, but it was still disappointing. Musing over her twins suggestion made the best of a bad situation and brought a little smile to her face. "Yeah, I like that. You can make some pretty decorations for the table and I can get a big fish for dinner." That would be nice, right? And if she caught a big enough fish their mothers might brag about her efforts to everyone else!

She really should just do it for the happiness of her family, but Enya couldn't help thinking of how cool it would be for the whole village to know how good of a fisherwoman she was.

“You won’t get any if you don’t try.” Pyanka pointed out as she bent down again to rummage through the mud, this time on the water’s edge but below the surface.

“If I have time to paint them today maybe yea.” Usually she scattered the colorful rocks all over the place. When she found a hidden corner somewhere, Pyanka put a rock. In their garden she made sure all of the plants had a pet rock, including the ones they kept at home. She had also made one for everyone in the family and was working on everyone in the village as well.

“We can always look for more bait too.” Though she wasn’t too sure what that entailed exactly. “Maybe we should ask someone who fishes.”

With her pole firmly nestled in the mud, Enya padded out to the water's edge. She'd already had her toes in the chilly river, so dipping them back in wasn't as much of a shock. The child padded softly forward, trying her best not to stir up the water too much, and once the tops of her feet were covered she crouched down to sift through the riverbed.

"Maybe we should ask the Hapuna. Or the ones who lived in the river...the....hrm...uh..." Remembering the Hapuna was easy. Stories about them usually involved sunny beaches with bright colors and lots of fun. The others were a little harder for Enya to remember, mostly because their name was longer. "I know big fish eat small fish so maybe I just need to get a lot of those."

“Ah yes we should visit the Hapuna.” Pyanka loved how colorful they were! Plus, she had a bit of money saved up and she could always buy something for herself. Maybe do some exchanges with some of her rocks too.

“You wanna go now? We’ll just need to let one of our moms know where we’re going first and then we can run over.” Because if their moms tried finding them here where they ought to be and could not, there would be a reckoning to answer to from Kanika. She didn’t want or need another lecture about safety and all that jazz

Enya was firmly squatted down into the water, the tips of the current ghosting her bottom, with her arms elbow deep in the muck when she turned to look at her sister. In an instant her eyes brightened and she looked positively glowing. "You know I do!" She never passed up a chance to meet the Hapuna. Most of her wardrobe was comprised of fabrics she'd begged her mothers to get and hand-me-downs she'd been gifted by Hapuna parents that couldn't avoid having the little elidae clinging to their every word.

When she stood back up her skirt was soaked, and her arms were solid brown from elbow to wrist. If she cared she didn't show it. "I think I've got enough to buy a net now, too." If Enya could stop impulse buying then she might be able to save for a proper fishing net. She'd been trying, and just maybe this time she could convince the seller to cut her a deal.

“Alright let’s go!” Pyanka too was elbow deep in mud and her feet too. So Pyanka grabbed the few rocks she had found and headed back home. The mud would dry off and she’d just rub it off of her before she got home. Pyrrha didn’t mind the mud, but Kanika didn’t like it when they dragged it everywhere in the house. “I wonder who’s home.” She was pretty sure it would be Pyrrha, but Kanika was maybe home as well. Maybe her cousin or even grandmas would be home too. She was going to have to pick some very special rocks to trade.

Enya did a quick, almost too fast dip in the water before getting out and grabbing her pole. The water itself would dry by the time she got home, but there would inevitably be mud somewhere on her. There always was.

"Maybe Nayyara?" Having her older cousin around almost felt like having a big sister. It was nice when she needed someone bigger to help her with stuff, but when it came to being watched by her Enya wasn't so happy. "When do you think she and Auntie are going on their trip?" She'd overheard them talking about it a time or two; the idea of seeing other trees.

Why would they want to do that? There were plenty of trees here!

“Yes I hope so!” If Nayyara was home maybe even their aunt would also be home as well. Pyanka pouted her lips as she contemplated her sister's question.

“I don’t know,” she admitted with a slight twinge of sadness. She was also of the mind that there were plenty of trees here! “Do you think it will be dangerous for them?”

Grandma Zandala was impressive in height and build, but she was certainly very scary as well and she was told she had been raised somewhere that was dangerous. Kanika had reassured her she was not scary at all, and truthfully her grandmother was very kind even if Pyanka favored Grandma Lumikani just a little more. Someday perhaps she would see this place where her grandmothers had come from and decide for herself.

“I hope they come back quickly.” She murmured softly.

“Well…maybe?” Enya furrowed her brow and really thought on it – well, as much as she could devout thought to at least. “Auntie Pruu came to see us so it shouldn’t be that hard, right?” Still, her Aunts hadn’t spoken of the voyage like it was ‘fun’ and even her cousins had been worn out. They hadn’t been able to come back home with them or see any of Enya’s cool toys, but seeing them on the shore had been nice enough.

“I might go one day! Don’t you think it would be fun? To take a boat and go out on the big water to catch biiiiiiig fish?”
