It was still new to Izanami, the feeling of strength and competence that came when she powered up. It wasn't perfect, of course--sometimes her magic frizzled and flickered out at her fingertips, and sometimes it raged, but she still found herself coming out when she could manage it. There were monsters to hunt, after all--both the human and nonhuman variety.
She'd perched herself on top of a building, keeping her eyes and her new magical sense out for any oncoming threats. She didn't have much time to idle, when her patrols were limited as it was, but she could take a few moments to see if anything crossed her radar.

Atheneite stalked her prey. She kept just out of sight of the young man who ambled down the dark alley. She knew in the back of her mind that a senshi was near, she could feel it but she didn't care. The senshi would come to her she was sure of that and she needed to finish collecting energy from this poor hapless fool.
Who was the man? What had driven out so late into the cruel and unforgiving night? Why would he feel the need to chance a trip down? These were all questions that flashed through Atheneite's mind as she drew the energy from the man's body. Ultimately, she supposed it didn't matter he would provide for the Negaverse.
The man's movement's began to slow and soon stopped all together as he dropped to the cold hard ground unconscious. She walked over the man grinning wickedly at the engery she held in her hand. Then felt a ping in her magical senses. "I know you're there." She called out in a faux playful tone to the interloper who had just arrived.

Izanami frowned. Her attention was drawn by movement--a single person, alone in the dark--and by the twig of a Chaos aura.
Unpleasant.
The man she could see wasn't the one she needed to fight, and the fact that he was staggering and slowing only highlighted that for her. Was he being drained, perhaps?
Finally, he dropped, and Izanami snarled as she watched the Lieutenant come out of hiding. She pushed herself off the edge of the roof, and dropped down, landing gracefully on her feet.
"Why don't you pick on someone who can fight back, hmm, Lieutenant?"

"Oh but it's fun 'picking' on losers who choose to stumble into the spider's web." She said with an cruel chuckle. Oh she was gonna have fun with this lady she could tell already.
"Besides I do have a job to do, I'd love to spend all day draining energy from do gooders like your self but that's just not realistic. No weak unpowered fools like him are far more plentiful and easier to find." It wasn't an untrue statement. Afterall she didn't often come across a senshi or a knight so even if she didn't want to attack civilians she needed to in order to meet her energy quota. Although a twisted part of her did enjoy seeing the pitiful people collapse to the ground after she stole the last of their strength.
"But I'll tell you what, Senshi, if you really want I can make sure you join him tonight." She said as she summon her baton and in one motion swung for the senshi's head.

Izanami fixed the Lieutenant with a cold, hard stare.
"You're disgusting. Lower than pond scum, targeting helpless people who can't fight back." she said, but although she was obviously furious, her tone and expression remained frosty. Even as she leapt backwards to avoid the baton swung for her head, her expression didn't change. It was all frost and fury.
"Cremation Blaze!" She declared, making the gesture for her attack. There was a brief whirl of flame, and then--
And then--
Nothing. No burst of blue fire aimed at her opponent, no agonized cry. Nothing.
Izanami's expression cracked, then, and she stared down at her hand in startled distress. Why now, of all times?

"Big words lady, lets see if you can back them up." She said completely unmoved by the frosty wrath that was being directed at her. "You and your kind, always so righteous. It really pisses me off."
As the woman called out the name of some magic Atheneite brought up her hand to guard herself against whatever was about to be released against her. But nothing came, the magic seemed to sputter out. Atheneite began to laugh, this couldn't be funnier.
As she laughed she delivered a solid kick to the senshi. She drove her boots into the woman's sternum. "What's the matter? Is your magic shy?" She mocked. "Guess you can't back up your tough talk afterall."

Izanami was far too startled by her magic's failure to react in time to prevent the hard kick to her sternum. She gasped, staggering backwards, and belatedly brought her arms up to shield herself from further assault.
She ought to be used to this. Her magic failed sometimes, and that was all there was to it. So, fine, physical violence would have to be it. She twisted on her feet, bringing up her leg in a roundhouse kick aimed or the Lieutenant's side.
She was silent, now. No need for banter.

Atheneite blocked the round house kick that the senshi deliver. She supposed the woman was just going to fight her hand to hand now that her magic had failed, which was just fine with Atheneite in fact she preferred it.
So the two traded blow for blow for some time with her punching, and kicking, and occasionally swinging her weapon at the woman. She grinned as the adrenalin flowed through her body. She was definitely having a fun time.

It was tense. Izanami was on the defensive, and she knew it. She'd taken several sharp, hard blows, and with the sheer advantage of the officer's weapon over her unarmed self, it was best described as a very bad time.
She wanted--no, needed--her magic to work, this time.
So she took a deep breath, let it out, and moved back to give herself some space.
One more try.
"Cremation Blaze!"
This time, the fire did not gutter or sputter. It roared out of her, taking her breath with it and making her stumble.

Atheneite continued to press the attack as she was pushing the senshi back further and further. As she raised her weapon up to strike again the senshi called on her magic.
Blue flames enveloped her completely as pain shot through her body. An unimaginable pain, like she was being burnt alive. She screamed in agony as she stumbled back from the woman.

This was her opportunity. Tired though she was, drained by the energy the magic had dragged out of her, Izanami darted for the unconscious civilian. She lugged him over her shoulders in a fireman's carry, and bolted for the nearby roof--waking up a few blocks from where he passed out, she thought, was not so much a price to pay when the alternative was never waking up at all.
So, she fled off into the night, hoping to put enoguh space between herself and the Lieutenant while her magic burned to keep her form giving chase.

The fire raged on as the senshi made her mistake, the pain Atheneite was experiencing was unimaginable. And then it ended, Atheneite was left curled up on the ground her body smoking and her once pale skin turned an angry pink. She was alive, something she didn't exactly expect given the pain she had given the feeling of being burned alive she had just experienced. Slowly Atheneite picked her still shaking body off of the ground.
She glared at the darkness infront of her with hate filled eyes, her enemies long gone. She was gonna make sure that woman paid, she would find her and she would make sure she died a slow and painful death and at the end she would take her starseed she would not give this woman the peace of the afterlife.
With her body still sore from the flames and her mind filled with fantasies of vengeance she stalked off into the light.
