Name: Gideon Farllen

Nickname: Gid

Gender/Pronoun: he/him/his

Age: 22

Birthday: August 4, 1998

Sign: Leo

Gemstone: spinel

Blood Type: O+

Fav. Food: boom boom shrimp

Hated Food: onions

Occupation: BS in Political Science from DCU. He is interning at city hall to become a political strategist.

Hobbies:
Gambling - Gideon has always loved winning and making sure people regretted it when they challenged him and lost. He likes cards, dice, and just games in general. As a child he bet candy and humiliating dares, but as he's grown, he's progressed into money, dangerous dares, and of course, secrets. He can be very taunting as he tries to goad people into engaging with him, and he's definitely a sore winner when he wins. But he tends to lose quietly. He pays whatever is owed and takes his punishment without complaint, but he's definitely gearing up for next time and planning how to make a comeback.

Conspiracy Theories (and making YouTube videos about conspiracy theories) - Gideon likes to watch and learn and figure out how likely the "truth" of any new information is. He has absolutely no desire to suspend his disbelief about literally anything, and "proof" of everything seems way more subjective than it should be. He likes doing research on lesser accepted alternatives and trying to piece together how unlikely things could be possible. He started making YouTube videos as a fun pass time and distraction in high school, and his voice has really grown to suit the "crazy non-believer" of his content. His comments section is a breeding ground of toxicity.

Horror - Whether it's movies, cosplay, or general set design, Gideon finds himself drawn to the horror aesthetic. Like many his age, his enjoys going all out on Halloween and doing his best to genuinely scare people. Similarly, he also has a masochistic appreciation for being terrified, compounded exponentially after watching his parents be murdered. He's almost addicted to reliving those fear-inducing memories and feeling the relief of surviving them. There is an almost grimdark amusement he gets from pondering the "what-if." What would his part be in these horror situations? What would he do if he was abducted? What if he had been killed that night so many years ago? Would anything even change?

Abstract Painting - Gideon has no idea where this started. Did he go on a wine-and-paint date that he completely blocked from his mind? Did he follow a friend into Michael's and get talked into "doing something a little different?" Did he have a middle school teacher that wanted him to express himself? He has no idea, but he has never considered himself artsy or painterly. Despite this, Gideon has a scattering of blank canvases in his home that he sometimes happens to sporadically smear paint on. He usually ends up throwing them away when they're sufficiently saturated, but the painting practice still induces this weird, zen-like state wherein he feels really vulnerable and emotional for no apparent reason.

Notes: I'd like a friend to get him into horseback riding!
He smokes, which is its own time commitment.

Virtues:
Analytical - Gideon likes to gather all sides of an argument before he makes any choices of his own. Settling on what is "true" or "accurate" is difficult enough, but that's no excuse to rush blindly in to any situation. Regret is easily his least favorite feeling, and one he wants to avoid at all costs, so he will dutifully ensure he does appropriate research and has believable answers before he makes any big decisions. Despite his counter culture conspiracy theory hobby, he does try to make sure he is still acting and thinking logically.

Thorough - He is very focused on activities that he feels compelled to complete. Not everything is important to him, but if it is something that needs to be done (such as tasks for work or basic adult chores), Gideon will be sure to do them to the best of his ability and not be distracted along the way. He can get a little hung up on things in his desire to not be kept awake all night, thinking of tasks he still needs to complete. But it at least means he doesn't procrastinate, and since he doesn't wait until the last second, things are typically detailed and done properly.

Spirited - His interests and desires may not be mainstream, but Gideon does like hanging out with others. Who would he gamble with? Who would he scare? Who would he share his opinions with, otherwise? Fortunately, he's not a dull nerd. Gideon has a lot of energy and charisma and is pretty good at convincing people to do things with him. He's fun to be around and can usually be trusted not to drag the group down or make a bad time of things. He's a decent people-reader and knows to steer away from topics and activities that start to wear on anyone with him.

Resilient - It really seems like there is not much that can shake him, at this point. Gideon feels like if he was ever going to succumb to negativity, it would've happened already, when he was fourteen and staring down an actual murderer. But lo and behold, he is still up and going for it as a decently-functioning human adult. He attributes this mostly to his constant expectation of the worst outcome. When you're prepared for bad things, they don't really come as any huge surprise, and you can be ready to act in such a way that will mitigate the worst damage.

Flaws:
Cynical - Gid is friendly, typically outgoing, and a careful people-studier, but this does not mean he trusts anyone he comes across. Gideon is pretty distrusting of nearly everyone, save for his close friends and family. Most of his connections are pleasant but shallow, leaving Gideon to feel like he can't rely on anyone for anything substantial, and making him unwilling to provide that support to others. People with a lot of experience with him can start to read him as selfish. He can be a little of a tease to goody-goodies, further widening that gap between them.

Fear Junkie - Gideon doesn't see any harm in sitting alone in his apartment, watching scary movies or reading horror stories that give him nightmares that keep him awake longer than a healthy person should be. He does acknowledge that it's probably not the best idea to drag his less-than-willing friends through the "bad" side of town at night while they’re on their way home from the bar. He probably shouldn't convince people to go skinny-dipping after dark off the cliffs at the reservoir with him. Gid has a bad habit of enjoying putting himself in dangerous situations, and he's not especially apologetic about dragging others with him.

Pessimistic - Bright side? What bright side? Gideon is not especially inclined to hope for the best or to see the silver lining. He's no fortune teller, but he feels pretty confident that most things will turn out on the less fortunate end of the spectrum, and that's just how it's going to be. The world is full of murder, famine, and corruption, and so many people just sit around and hope it changes, like that's enough. At this point, why even hope? It seems more reliable to just accept that bad things happen and life sucks, but at least we all have death to look forward to.

Suppression - While Gideon is pretty proud of himself for not being easy to surprise or overwhelm, it is in part because anytime feelings seem like they might be too much for him, he immediately blocks it out, pushes it aside, disregards it with a joke, and outright doesn’t acknowledge it. He expects bad things to happen, and usually has some sort of preparedness for it, but that doesn't mean he enjoys the worst outcome or would prefer it to something more pleasant. He doesn't want to deal with being unable to handle something emotionally, and so instead of being willing to lean on someone, Gideon instead just pretends like everything is fine.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Eyes: brown, almond-shaped eyes that are just a little bit tired-looking

Hair: thick, red hair styled into windswept spikes. Has full bangs parted to his left

Face: still a pretty young dude, so doesn't have all the definition of someone older. Relatively small nose, lips, and ears

Skin Tone: peachy-pink

Body Type: Gideon is a relatively narrow guy. He doesn't have a whole lot of success with working out, due to his limp, but he just doesn't seem to ever put on weight, either. His left leg has lost a lot of nervous support from the knee down, so tends to not rest on it.

Clothes: He likes short-sleeved turtlenecks and skinny jeans tucked into boots for "nice" wear, but he'll also throw on a quick pair of cargo shorts, converse, and a band shirt if he doesn't think he'll be out long. Work makes him dress pretty formally in a full suit. But for a fun and casual night, he may clip his hair back, wear gold rings, and fasten a small scattering of belts around his neck and upper arms.

User ImageNegaverse Alias: Lieutenant Feldspar

Challenge: You wouldn't hit a cripple.

Uniform:
Top -- black long-sleeve coat with a row of gold buttons down the center and lined in gold trim, over a high-collared black shirt. Red lapels and red cuffs on the coat
Bottoms -- form-fitting black dress pants
Gloves -- none
Belt -- black belt with gold buckle obscured by the length of his coat
Shoes -- black boots fastened with a red strap secured with a golden gear button
Shoulders -- nothing
Accessories -- a gold chain hangs off his right hip

Weapon
Lieutenant Weapon: a black cane decorated with a fire motif on the very bottom
Captain Weapon: a simple, sleek, black bow decorated with a fire motif along the very tips. Has a small quiver of slender, black arrows attached at his hip by a golden chain
General Weapon: a longbow that is as tall as Feldspar is. It has a lengthy draw time, making it relatively slow for a bow, but has great distance. The tips are sharp-edged, allowing for potential close-proximity fights. Quiver still attached at Feldspar's hip. The arrows have the magical effect of causing burns on contact (level of pain and duration at opposing player's discretion).

Backstory:
Thinking back, Gideon wouldn’t say he expressly remembered anything being off about his parents. But it wouldn’t be until his own corruption, nearly eight years after their deaths, that he would learn both of them had been agents of the Negaverse.

When Gid was fourteen, his family suffered a home invasion by some gaggle of strangers wearing white that left both his parents dead and Gideon critically injured. And for almost eight years after that, nothing exceptionally remarkable or even interesting happened to him. He lived with his grandparents, he finished high school, and then attended and completed college. Further information regarding his parents’ deaths was entirely absent. The unresolved nature of the murders gave him his morbid curiosity and spurred a search for answers and resolution that is still as of yet unsated.

But it has felt like he’s gotten closer within the last few months. His corruption into the Negaverse only came about because of his potentially (eventually) influential position at city hall (rather than any relation he shared with previous agents), but once he had access to the Negaverse’s database, he was able to confirm things like his parents’ involvement in the war and the hand the White Moon had in their eventual downfall. He expects the only reason he was left alive is because it wouldn’t have been exactly good press to kill an unpowered teenager.

He uncovered the likelihood that at least one of his parents’ identities had been compromised, but information regarding who could’ve actually carried out the murder (or if any perpetrators are still alive after so long) is scant.

But this is the closest he has ever felt to having something like answers. Even though Feldspar had no idea where to begin after picking up such a cold trail, he still took a very active role in looking for whatever he could find during his first week of being an agent. Sometimes that meant scavenging through the very few files a new recruit had access to in Negaspace, and sometimes it meant taking to the street and hoping to sporadically run into someone of interest.

And eventually, he does, though it isn’t anyone he’s looking for. When Feldspar crosses paths with a strange youma, he thinks almost nothing of it. They aren’t supposed to be threatening to agents, so he expects they will mutually leave each other alone and continue about their business.

This is not what happens.

After stalking him through the night (something Feldspar can barely comprehend the reasoning behind), the youma eventually attacks him, and Feldspar is unable to effectively fight back due to his old injury. The youma knocks him out and drags him to the Rift, where it leaves him encased in crystal until it decides upon what to do with him.

Unbeknownst to Feldspar, this particular youma has a vague sort of familiarity with him. It doesn’t fully recognize him, but it does realize that there is something about him that it has seen before. It can’t place what, and the confusing sensation makes it irritable and aggressive, leading it to attack. The youma doesn’t quite want to kill him, but neither does it particularly want to let him go. It knows something about him is familiar, but neither Feldspar nor the youma can fully place the reasoning behind this. In actuality, the youma was once bonded to Feldspar’s mother, and it has vague memories of its agent strictly instructing it to stay well away from a certain young red-headed teenager. But eight years later, the only thing remaining of those instructions is uncomfortable sensations, and Feldspar seems to be the root of them.
