Alrightie, lovely programming people. Rainbow needs some help over here. Let me explain my plight.

I am fairly proficient in programming HTML and CSS. I know nothing about PHP or MySQL ... but that shouldn't be a problem concerning profiles. I am able to make my own images with an image editor. (Sadly, that image editor is MSPaint. Eh. I make due.)

However, I know not how to apply this to my profile. I am in dire need of assistance. My profile is ugly and I am disappointed in it.

All I really need is someone to help me explain WHERE the hell I'm supposed to program stuff, and then how I change the different backgroundie things ... like for example that banner thing, comments, about me, etc etc and pictures. Okay. Please help? T-T

Well, the where is pretty easy (assuming you mean where you go to enter the coding): Click on "My Gaia", then click on "Theme" on the right. That will bring up a screen with a big text area where you can enter all the codes. There is an option to select the default layout you want to work from. Currently there are three layouts and then a blank one (custom) with minimal coding. I'd use custom since it does have less coding in it (and thus less to have to overwrite). There's also an option to change the color of the nav bar at the top, but it doesn't work yet. sad

As for how, since you're familiar with CSS, I'm assuming you need the names for the sections to change. Each section is named what it is. The first profile section (with your avatar) is #profile, the Friends section is #friends, the Comments section is #comments, etc. The headers within each section are simply h2s, so to edit each header, you'd have the name of the section plus h2 (#profile h2, #friends h2, #comments h2, etc.).

The main header on the page is #extendedProfileBody #header. The profile from the top of the page to the bottom of the page is contained in a div called #site. The profile from below the header to the top of the footer is contained in a div called #content. The sidebar information (profile to wishlist) is in a div called #sidebar. The other information (about to signature) is in a div called #main.

If you need anything more than that, I'd suggesting looking through some tutorials. There is one here, in this subforum as a sticky, as well as many in the PD.
