Monoceros had kind of forgotten to power down between his last patrol and going out to get breakfast in a fit of laziness, but, uh, hey! Nobody was really looking at him funny. So. There was that. Probably just assumed he was going to some costume party.

He took his coffee and bagel from the counter when it was called and stepped back outside, breathing the air in deeply. Today was gonna be a good day, he could feel it.

Mirosnjha had a love-hate relationship with mornings. On the one hand, he was excited for his people to get out and go to work so that he could have some coveted alone time in which he didn't have to be frightened of a normal human witnessing him playing games or doing crosswords. It also afforded him the opportunity to roam, if he desired it. But on the other hand, when his people left, he was indeed alone, and such a state was a sad and boring one, even if he had activities he could do.

Immediately after his humans departed was always the worst. Given an hour to adjust, Miros would be able to settle in and relax and enjoy a quiet day, but that first hour left him restless.

He slipped out the kitty door provided for him (his people were so good to him, even if he was lying to them about how much "cat" he was) and set a very brisk pace as he scurried down the sidewalk, keeping one side of his flank dusting the buildings as he stuck to the shadows, mostly out of sight. Once he got rid of some of this excess energy, he'd feel better. A nap would surely put him at ease.

When he reached the edge of his complex and came face-to wall with a slab of brick fencing, Mirosnjha didn't slow his pace as he bounced upward onto the ledge, landing heavily before resuming a quick slink across the cement. From up here, he at least had better visuals, which was nice. And the cold breeze tickled his whiskers and his ear fluff. It was a crisp morning, good for a quick stroll that would leave him ready to curl up in some warm blankets.

But just as he thought he was satisfied with his outing for the morning, a peculiar wave of something pressed to his senses. Miros lifted his head, ears flicking and whiskers twitching as his pale gaze scanned down the street ahead of him.

Mirosnjha kept inside most of the time. Sometimes he could feel little whispers of an aura when powered individuals patrolled close to his home, but this one was very slightly different: more of an ebb and flow than a constant radiant pressure.

It didn't take him long to find the source: a portly boy donned in white as he exited a shop with breakfast in hand.

Hm... Miro could use some breakfast too.

He scuttled down the brick wall toward the boy, and once he was near enough, he jumped, landing heavily on the boy's shoulder with claws extended to steady himself as his back paws scrabbled for purchase on the sloping plane clearly not meant for a cat of his stature. Miros leaned forward, lifting his nose toward the cup in the boy's hand and extending a paw as if to scoop it nearer to him.

"Hey," his tail curled around the back of the boy's neck as he tried to balance himself. "You should be more careful walking into public places like this." As he balanced himself, he concentrated his own power, using it to smother the aura of the boy with him. "It's pretty inconsiderate to the people around you."

Monoceros startled and winced as the cat landed on his shoulder with claws out, hands jolting, yet remaining tightly gripping his food and drink.

"Well, I didn't exactly plan on it," he said, embarrassed, "I just... forgot to, uh, y'know. And I was very very hungry."

He peered around, squinting for a good space—ah! He slipped into a very empty, closed off area. He didn't quite power down yet, since his hands were full, but he did make himself comfortable on a set of stone stairs leading to some emergency exit door or something for the building they were by.

"You after my coffee?" he joked, having noticed the cat's paw reaching for his drink, "I'll share if you tell me your name. I'm Sailor Monoceros, by the way. Porcupines are my thing."

"Mistakes happen," Miros said agreeably with a little roll of his shoulders. "I just think it'd be unfortunate if any of those civilians in there happened to be an agent, who recognized what you were and found it peculiar to see a senshi out in daylight doing normal business. They might get curious. Might come back later to give these employees a hard time, asking how often they saw you or if they knew anything about you. And if the answer wasn't to their satisfaction..." He didn't think he needed to say what an offended Negaverse agent would do to a helpless civilian.

"Even if they can't sense auras in their civilian guise, they still have eyes. Just be careful. When you take this mantle, you become a protector to these people. Don't put them in danger unnecessarily. There's enough of that in Destiny City already."

With Miros shielding their auras, it wasn't such a big deal now. As the boy made himself comfortable, Mirosnjha hopped down to the nearest stair.

"I don't usually start my morning with coffee, but I'm not opposed, if it's available," he answered, eyeing the cup in the boy's hand. "Besides, it feels like I may need some extra energy today." His tail swayed, and his whiskers twitched. "I'm Mirosnjha, a guardian, if that wasn't obvious. Something in the air feels..." He closed his crystalline-blue eyes and inhaled. "Vibrant today," he hummed thoughtfully.

He winced, any defensiveness he might have had dropping. Miros was so, so right. That was quite the egregious error. He needed to be more aware of that. Getting people in trouble just because he walked into a place and forgot to power down would be absolutely no excuse.

"Hope they just think it's for a costume party," he said meekly, popping the lid off the coffee cup and setting it near Miros so he could drink.

"Something in the air? Is it... good vibrant?" he asked, vaguely wondering if there was such a thing as bad vibrant. Disney villains did tend to have quite the vibrant purple and/or green color schemes...

As he thought, he opened his little bag and began to devour his bagel.

Mirosnjha's tail swayed in expectant excitement as he watched Monoceros pop the lid of his drink. He craned forward to the edge of the step, eagerly following the cup as it was placed before him, before tipping forward and lapping up a few mouthfuls. Once satiated, he sat back and gave a rapid shake of his head, sending tiny droplets spinning off of his whiskers as he licked at his lips.

"There's no need to worry about it now," he assured the boy. "Just next time you happen by here, remember to keep yours eyes and ears out for any indication that something may have happened after we left. But it probably is fine. You weren't around long."

"Besides, I have a good feeling. It is a good vibrant, I think."

He hopped down a stair, so as to be closer to Monoceros as he leaned in to give the boy a tentative sniff. He wasn't in the habit of chasing down auras, no matter what faction they were from. But when he felt something whispering to him, beckoning him for his aid, he couldn't just ignore it... Senshi like this needed the help of Miros' kind to grow closer with their world and harness more of its magic.

"Do you travel to Monoceros often?" Miros asked, perking up as he stared with large blue eyes back at his new senshi friend. "How long have you been awakened to your powers? It must feel like you've bonded with it some?"

Monoceros picked up the cup and popped the lid back on once the cat had drank his fill, sipping at it himself. He didn't particularly care that he was drinking after a cat; he'd done worse, after all.

He smiled nervously as Miro suggested he'd visited his constellation often, as the situation was quite the opposite. "Actually, I, uh... I haven't visited. Yet. I just, ah... keep putting it off?" he said, twisting his hands around the cup. "I've been wanting to, sort of, but the full weight of it just seems... Daunting. I've been doing this for... darn near a year, I think, now? I just... think about it, and then I get hit with nerves like a train running me over. My stomach goes in knots and I get lightheaded and I just give up."

"Oh." Miros' ear twitched. His large, glassy eyes were unblinking as he stared at the senshi in front of him. A year. An entire year, and this boy hadn't even visited the world that gave him such great powers that he was so nonchalant with. Monoceros was comfortable strolling around in his senshi guise, casually wearing the skin his world gave him, and he'd never even seen it.

Who had awakened him? The Mauvian who had given him his pen must surely have mentioned the need and importance of the bond between senshi and homeworld-

And even if they didn't, the world still called. Mirosnjha had never come across anyone who so blatantly ignored their world's plea for attention. ...Though admittedly, he didn't often seek out nearby senshi. Maybe it was common practice in this era to just... not be interested. As far as he understood it, the people of Earth hardly cared about their own planet, trashing it and ruining it as they did, so some clod of space debris a trillion lightyears away... Why would that be important to any of them?

"It's waiting for you," he whispered softly, still openly staring through wide, crystalline eyes. "And it's been waiting for a long time. Many lifetimes of floating out in the vast vacuum of space, alone, waiting for the Cauldron to elect a new host for its senshi's starseed. It's a little selfish to take Monoceros' power and never even visit the world that gave it to you when it has been sitting so patiently for your return..."

But what was one year in the face of a millennia, he supposed?

"I could go with you, if you think it would be easier to not go alone," Miros offered. "My world, Mau, I'll never be able to see it again, so going out there," he gestured toward the sky with an upward tilt of his fluffy head. "It's the closest I'll ever get to my old home."

Monoceros cringed as he was lectured, hiding his face shamefully. Miros was right. What right did he have to just use this power to only defend Earth? There was a whole other planet that needed him.

But that was the very thought that terrified and overwhelmed him. An entire planet, just obliterated. A language (or more than one, like Earth, what did he know?) a people (again, or several), cultures, history! All of it so.... large and petrifying. Visiting a dead planet to see... The ghosts of all the things he was supposed to shoulder weighed him down without even visiting.

He couldn't be everything Monoceros the Constellation needed from him. Maybe he'd been picked by the Cauldron all special-like, but that kind of talk didn't work for him. It didn't stop him from feeling completely wrong and like he'd just be... out of place up there. Like he wasn't worthy of bearing this weight. There was just so much he'd never know, so much he'd never be able to restore, buried in the rubble. He wasn't an archaeologist, or a historian, or even all that good with language. He felt this terrible weight like... He supposed what he was thinking was true: he was now, technically, a survivor of an apocalypse. A reincarnated one, but one nonetheless. Wading through all that... he didn't think he was strong enough.

He didn't know, either, when he'd begun crying as the thoughts raced through his head, but he noticed when he hiccuped and began wiping at his face.

"I'm sorry," he croaked. "I know I must seem like a big jerk. But I'm... I just can't... be what that world needs. I'll—I'll stop using these powers. I'm not... worthy of it. I can't... be who it wants me to be."

Even though Mirosnjha would never have the experience of a new senshi, he could at least understand that it was a lot. When he had first become in tune with his powers and purpose, it had felt... natural. Like remembering something he had forgotten. He'd personally lived a life on Mau before being put in stasis. The memories were gone, likely forever, but it had felt right to know that he was more than just a cat, even if he rarely did anything with it.

But a senshi had lived and grown on earth, with assurances that magic and monsters weren't real and that space was out of reach for the majority of the population. They were 'normal,' or special to parents, maybe, but otherwise just one among a sea of average human faces. To have all of that usurped in an instant, tossed in with the whole "battling chaos and evil" bit- it was a lot. He could understand that.

Except it wasn't really "new" for this boy, at this point. Miros didn't know if it was worth all the tears, and he wasn't sure if he understood why this was happening.

Sensitive kid.

Miros' whiskers twitched as he sat on the step, staring at this weird kid. "What do you think it needs?" He prompted as he tipped his head. "To be honest, if you're running away and avoiding it and hiding, yeah, that kind of seems like something someone unworthy would do. But it's also not really a choice you can make, is it? Since it's already done. You can't give it away, or anything. So ignoring your world is kind of jerk-levels of attitude," he agreed with a little shrug.

He flinched a little at Miros' words, hiding his face in his hands.

"It needs someone smarter and stronger than me," he managed to whisper, ashamed. "I'm not someone who can... look at all that... this entire planet that used to be full of people and animals and life... That has its own history and culture and language and all the things that come with that... and bring it back. I'm not an archaeologist, I'm not a historian, or a linguist, or any of that smart stuff. I'm just... a dumb guy who plays video games for a living. I can't... give those ghosts what they deserve. Even if I used to be their, y'know, their guy, in their time, I'm not now and I can't..."

He shuddered. "I'm not a hero. Not really."
