 The southern edge of the Rowling Forest is situated a few hours away from Nix City and is abundant in both lush vegetation and energetic Pokémon. Since it's close enough for day trips, the local Rangers often use the spot for teaching kids and passing trainers about the wonders the forest has to offer, and assist many of the local children in catching their first Pokémon.  Regal Bastionxxxxxxx »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» "The human mind is like a parachute... It had been a very eventful afternoon. Utilizing the Running Shoes he had purchased on Techmech Street, Regal had been able to make it to the forest in record time, allowing the trainer a bit of extra daylight to explore and train his team before needing to set up camp for the night. They had set out to gather some berries first while surveying the forest edge, and things quickly started getting wild. Not only had they caught two new Pokémon, an Espurr and a Dottler, to add to their ranks, but both Icarus and Terra had evolved in the process to Pidgeotto and Lycanroc respectively. Terra had even evolved into the rare Dusk Form Lycanroc, so to say that Regal was ecstatic wouldn't be doing him justice.
Not wanting to lose the momentum they had built up, the trainer was now commanding Regis and his new Treeko, Sylvain, in yet another battle against a wild Pancham and Sizzlipede. This would be his first time battling together with Sylvain since the grass type had hatched, so he would have to be careful not to push the young Pokémon too far. Luckily the more experienced Luxio was more than capable of covering for the little gecko.
He had Sylvain make the first move, and the Treecko threw a pair of Energy Ball attacks at its opponents. The spheres sailed clumsily through the air and just barely managed to connect with their targets, but neither of the wild Pokémon seemed to have taken much damage from the newborn's attack. Going on the offensive themselves, the wild Pancham tried to retaliate against Sylvain by getting in close and attacking with Arm Thrust while the Sizzlipede was content to spew Ember pellets against both opponents from afar.
The two seemed to be focusing on the less experienced Sylvain, so Regal commanded the Treecko to dodge their attacks by using Agility. He was pleased to see that what the grass type lacked in power and technique, it made up for with its speed. Neither the Ember attack nor the Arm Thrust came even close to touching it, and the Pancham in particular was growing frustrated as it failed to catch the speedy Pokémon. After a few more rounds of tag with its opponents, Regal was satisfied enough to have Regis finish the two with a quick Thundershock attack before sealing the duo in Pokéballs and sending them off to the lab in Blume Town.
"You guys were great." He said as Sylvain skittered up onto his shoulder. "Let's start setting up camp so I can make dinner."
According to the trainer's cooking guide he had received in King Town, the mushrooms in the forest were safe for consumption, which was good news considering how many they had found. Together with some assorted vegetables, sausage and milk he had purchased at the general store, Regal was able to cobble together a surprisingly decent cream stew for everyone to eat. Between bites, the trainer went over their progress for the day and was very pleased with what they had accomplished. Four new Pokémon to add to the Pokédex, as well two more evolutions among his team. And they hadn't even entered the forest yet.
The Applegate gym leader specializes in fighting types, so Icarus evolving is a big step in the right direction. The trainer realized as he finished cleaning up the dishes. The bug types I've been catching are sure to be helpful as well.
Typing wasn't everything of course, as his gym battle against Harvey had proven. He would need to prepare his team appropriately for the fight as well, which was sure to consist of close-range combat. The trainer would need to do some thorough research on fighting types themselves before making his challenge as well. There was a lot to prepare, but for now his first priority was getting some shut eye. The gym wasn't going anywhere.
