They'd been meeting for nearly two months, something rather unexpected by Hisoka. He wasn't one for friends and so having a friend, who he didn't work with, was a very unusual thing. The fact they met on a regular basis and talked, while having coffee, was a shock to his co-workers. What was even stranger was that he didn't ignore the others flirting, in fact there were times when he returned the flirting. He knew it would all come to an end at some point...some point soon. It was this connection he would miss as much as his parents, unlike his job which he'd miss because of the income, but he couldn't tell Kai and he also couldn't disconnect from the other.

It was why he hesitated every time he agreed to meeting with the other...and why he seemed distant at times. He was digging himself into a hole and he was willingly, and knowingly,. doing so. He was going to hurt Kai and he was going to hurt himself, because he normally never gave a ******** what other people thought of him. He wasn't special to Kai though...not like he was to others anyway. Kai didn't stare at his piercings or his ears...didn't make him feel like some object either. Kai also wasn't like most of his co-workers and wasn't as loud and headache inducing. Hisoka liked his company.

Waiting for the other to arrive he held a coffee cup in his hands and stared into the cup of hot liquid. It smelled good and tasted even better, and was already half drank, as he glanced about the small cafe. It wasn't so packed as to be uncomfortable but it also wasn't so empty that he was bored stiff either. It worked.

The cafe door chimed as Kai came in, arriving in a large, puffy jacket and striped scarf and earmuffs. It had started to snow again which was always a joy to walk in and he had run late getting the bus over.

Stomping his boots on the doormat, he came over, pulling off the scarf so he could talk. "Sorry I'm late. People acting a fool out there thinking end of days coming just cause they seen a snowflake." He said, setting the scarf on the chair opposite Hisoka. It was one of their favorite tables. A bit set off from the booths and chairs and guarded by a potted plant that gave them a feeling of some privacy. Kai liked it because they could look out the window. He had been noticing that Hisoka had been going quiet and looking out more often these days, but nothing he managed to talk about touched on what might be bothering him. In the end, it didn't seem to sour their time together, but he also felt a pang of worry.

"Here long? Get here okay?" Already the snow was falling even more and he looked out, frowning as he started to unzip his coat.

Snow was lovely to look at - but that was it. Hisoka didn't like being in it for long, he tended to get cold rather quickly, and he didn't like how when it melted his hair wound up wet...as did everything else he wore. It was nice if he didn't need to go out in it. Thankfully he didn't need to go outside, for more than a minuet, to get to work. So it normally wasn't too bad, he'd just go do shopping the next day if it came to that. But he was out in the snow today...but there was a valid and good enough reason. And as he watched said reason walk into the cafe he felt a bit of a smile tug at his lips.

"Don't they always? They are worse when they have a license and a car...I find they forget how to drive and just wing it." Shrugging his shoulders a bit as he spoke. And most of those people were bad drivers to begin with, at least in his opinion, but when it snowed or ********. The amount of skidding that happened, and accidents, were rather astonishing. It was a wonder; really.

"I got here ok, watched an idiot or two skid a bit...one was trying to turn on a red and they made it...but the skid was rather well deserved." And he was glad to have seen it himself. He really didn't have much mercy for idiots who didn't deserve his care, because they did stupid s**t. He didn't feel for people who did dumb things and stabbed themselves in the foot.

"I'm half done with my drink...so not too long. I made record time in getting here. Anything to escape the damned cold." Watching the other work off his coat he smiled a bit more. "It's nice to be warm again." Warm once he was in here with a warm drink and feeling comfortable in a familiar place and with a familiar person. It was good.

"How was work? Or were you off today? I don't know if you were booked or had walk in's." Or nothing and stayed home. It was always fun to trade stories about work and the insanity which happened in a tattoo studio. Most people would never imagine the s**t they saw and heard while at work...it was insane sometimes.

"Had a consultation with two clients. One keeps changing their mind on where they want it so had to talk them through it. I think they finally settled on the thigh. Took a week. Other is just a back piece." He said, sounding like he was already done talking about work for today. With winter coming, a few people wanted to do something fun to pass their hum-drum days inside and were booking appointments for something fun to do. They had to delay their appointments due to a broken heater for a week and now they were catching up, but things seemed to be slowing down again.

I'm gonna be right back." He said as he went to order and after checking with the barista, came back over and settled down again. What he wanted to do was sit beside Hisoka, but the booths always felt too small.

"I'm off now. Was thinking - what with the weather being s**t, you wanna watch a movie at my place after?" He asked, feeling his heart thudding against his brain. He had practiced this for days now and had told himself he'd just wait till later in the conversation. However, his brain was set on the one thought that he wound up just bringing it up now from the start.

They had only met at the coffee spot and to walk around a bit. He wanted to see about maybe offering more since he wondered and worried if it was weird that he wasn't. "It's not glamorous. I mean, it's not really big or anything but - uh, I got a couch and a TV and the heat ain't awful."

"The where isn't so bad to deal with, that's typically easy enough to talk them into...or out of. The design though....I had one who kept switching designs." Including to things he simply could not do, and she didn't listen to him. He'd finally been saved by a co-worker who took her on and managed to deal with her somehow or other. He didn't honestly care how that particular customer was handled - so long as he didn't have to handle them.

Watching the other get up, presumably to order a drink, he wasn't surprised when he returned. What did surprise him was the others question - being asked over to see a movie. "I have nothing to do tonight. A movie wouldn't be bad at all." It would be a nice break from work and he could honestly use it.

Shaking his head, lips tugged up into a smile, and chuckle even escaping, Hisoka found his voice after a moment. "And you think my place is better? I'm living above the shop I work at. It's nothing big or fancy either. I don't fancy throwing stones at people when my own house is glass as well." Sipping his drink he set it down and stared at the other. "A movie sounds good. What do you like?"

"I kinda like cheesy stuff. I don't want to feel awful watching a movie. World's awful enough. Like to escape from that. So if it's fun or at least has a good ending, I'm for it." He said, scratching his bread as he looked up and a barista handed off his hot chocolate to him. "Thanks."

He took a drink and then looked over. "What kinda movies you like? We can rent something."

For now, he decided it was best not to overload Hisoka with his shitty taste for musicals and Dolly Parton specials. The last thing he needed to do was scare a good thing away.

"Gotta say I'm a chicken with horror movies. So if that's your business, you gotta live with me using you as a shield."
