Debates // If he can't physically fight as a civilian, Keegan makes due with debates. He's always sure to be one of the first to join debate clubs at his school, usually picking the opposing side for both a challenge and to just get an excuse to argue with his opponent. Whether he agrees personally with what he's debating or not, doesn't matter to Keegan. So long as he can argue with someone, he's happy. He often makes people wonder if he does in fact agree with his own points, for all the effort he puts into making and delivering them. Debating was an easy thing to get into when he was younger, given his high level of intelligence and the need to constantly be challenged by something or he grew bored and sullen.
Stuffed Animal Collecting // Keegan has done this for as long as he can remember. He can't recall the first time something stuffed caught his attention. Even as a baby, he had a fascination with them, more so of the feline variety. This is the only part of his childhood that was anything like a normal child. And is something he can't seem to let go. He does still carry around stuffed animals in public. Not so much school anymore, after a few incidents where they were taken. When one ended up underneath the wheels of a transport truck, the offender had found his text books ripped up and in the trash out back. To avoid more detentions getting in his way, Keegan keeps his animals at home.
One in particular is most dear to him and follows him on most of his outings. A lion with a little crown on its head, anywhere the teenager goes, this one is likely to be under his arm or sticking out of his backpack. He doesn't care how this makes him look. He is comfortable in his own skin and advises everyone else to do the same.
The number of plushies this kid owns is hard to say, but they do span all over his room. Sitting on bookshelves. On his computer. By his computer. On his bed pillows and the back board. Sitting on the books on the top parts of his bookshelves. His window seat. You can't look at any inch of his room without spying something fluffy. Most are travel size, easily fit under his arm. But he does own a few larger ones, which are usually sitting on the floor against bed or window seat or bookshelf side. While the majority are lions or felines in some way, a few are the classic teddybear or other creature. He even has a little Unicorn sitting on his bed besides a dragon sitting on its hind legs.
Strategic Games // From Magic the Gathering style card games, to chess tournaments. If it requires strategy, Keegan is likely to be interested in it. He enjoys anything that strengthens and challenges his mind in a way people his age tend not to. For Keegan is above and beyond the simple teenager's mind. He understands the need to keep yourself mentally sharp. He always preferred to hang around others of his intellectual level, be they his age, younger, or older. It makes him more comfortable.
From Magic the Gathering style card games, to chess tournaments. If it requires strategy, Keegan is likely to be interested in it. He enjoys anything that strengthens and challenges his mind in a way people his age tend not to. For Keegan is above and beyond the simple preteen mind. He understands the need to keep yourself mentally sharp. He always preferred to hang around others of his intellectual level, be they his age, younger, or older. It makes him more comfortable.
The types of games you would find a normal teenager playing doesn't concern him. The survival aspect of some of them interests him, but you wouldn't catch the kid doing more than simply watching with the intent of studying how much survival is needed. If it's not to his standards, he looks the other way.
Keegan has more of an interest in the card games than board. Card games require more thought than board, more planning when you don't draw the kind of card you want. It keeps the mind sharper, having to think quickly on your feet. A great majority of his time is spent in card and game shops, playing against anyone willing to challenge him. Most of his money is spent on card packs to strengthen his own decks. Or just trading with others in the shops or the parks. He even went all the way as to get an app on his phone that interacts with other players' phones so he can find opponents and trade partners easier. When it picks up a similar card choice to Keegan, it sets off an alarm.
Another activity he likes to do in the park is watching people play chess. Often he will challenge the winner of a rather engaging game, whether they be young or old. In school, he is apart of the chess team. Nothing more. He has no time for anything else nor wish to forfeit more of his free time spent with his card games and decks.
Virtues:
Prideful // Yes, his hair is pink. He is quite aware his hair is pink. Does this bother Keegan? Not really. No matter the looks or teasing he might get about the color and fluffiness of it, he takes it all in stride. In fact, he would go as far as to announce he is proud of his hair. How many guys do you see who would even do the pink hair, let alone pull it off as well as he does? He knows he's extremely good-looking.
It should be needless to say that Keegan has a rather large ego regarding his appearance. It is not the ego of an older person believing themselves the best looking around and putting down others over it. It is a more conserved confidence in himself. His asserting the fact he is comfortable with the way he looks. And thinking everyone else ought to follow his example.
Aside from the obvious traits, Keegan is quite proud of himself in other ways. Though not something many people would deem worthy of appreciation, he is proud of how manipulative he can be. How fast he can think on his feet when things don't go his way. He worked his mind for many years to get to the level he's at now. Even adults have bent to his will. Though not so much anymore. Recently, he's realized he'll need to focus on his wit more than ever. And this has made him notice how handy he has become over the years. Yet, he doesn't flaunt it. At least not too much.
Ambitious // Keegan has a very goal oriented life. There was never much time for play. At least not in the usual sense of the word. He never liked sports or playing outside. The only games he liked were ones made to strengthen the mind. It's not clear exactly where this trait manifested itself, since his parents did whatever he wanted to do and never forced him to do anything.
He wants what he wants and he'll focus his energies on getting it within his grasp. From a tournament trophy in card battles or chess. To rising in recognition with someone. It is usually his main focus until he obtains it. This does tend to get in the way of other activities. School work not being one of them. School, he knows perfectly well, is too important a thing to ignore. He needs those diplomas to do anything in life. Keegan always got through his homework and assignments quicker than his classmates, leaving himself lots of free time to focus on his goals in life. Said goals tended to change, depending on what he currently wanted. Focus on other things was lower until he achieved said goal. The more important the goal, the more attention it got over others.
This can make Keegan good to work with, more so for the lazy. As he's not opposed to doing the entire job by himself. He feels he is the only one capable of such a job, no matter what said job is. He is arrogant, cocky, and is perfectly alright with ignoring his partner to do the job by himself. Either way, the job gets done and he feels accomplished. On the down side, his perfectionists behavior doesn't co-exist well with those students more than willing to do their share of the work. Arguments are common when Keegan expresses how they're doing something wrong, though he will share the work if his group-mates wish it. He figures the advantage of getting more free time after school among all his other activities heavily outweighs his want to do things by himself. May as well get used to it now, he always tells himself. You can't escape group activities your entire life.
Reliable // Surprisingly, Keegan keeps any promises he makes. He is careful not to make promises he really has no interest in keeping. Which happens to be most people. But if it's small and for his benefit, he will keep it. In response to his goal oriented trait, this does mean some promises may get pushed to the side in favor of other things. Since he doesn't make promises very often, he can usually fulfill the need of the other person rather quickly and get back to his own personal tasks. In truth, Keegan likes to have these promises finished before continuing on with his own things. For the simple reason he doesn't like feeling like he owes someone anything. This makes him reliable if anyone wants him to do anything for them. So long as you can give him something in return.
This trait is the very reason Keegan is only helpful sometimes. It has to benefit him. This does mean he has a selfish streak, as he won't help anyone-save the few who have earned his trust-without some sort of a payment. The type of payment can vary on the kind of personal job he has to do. Such as being asked to run a little errand or make something for a class he dislikes. Or even a new plushie for his collection will do. Keegan has such a love for stuffed animals, he'll take almost anything, even if it's a double. Doubles can be used as trade fodder with other collectors, after all. The ease at which someone can get him to do something is what makes this a positive trait. Give him a little plushie and he'll help you.
But he isn't a fool. Being easily bought off doesn't mean he'll help just anyone off the street. He is an intelligent boy. He must know the person in some way in order to help them. He is aware not everyone in the world is a good person and is careful to not be taken advantage of in this way or put himself in any danger. Regardless, this giving of favors does serve another purpose:It can be helpful to see who is reliable and can be trusted.
Flaws:
Manipulative // As is obvious, Keegan isn't above using others to get what he wants. If you are the type to get worked up over a cute little kid-or handsome young man, depending on his current age-you have either made a friend or an enemy, depending on how you look at it. If you are smart, you will use this to your own advantage. If you can provide Keegan with something he needs, he will provide you with something you need. If you are one who gets suckered into a cute face, well...He adores you. Just not in the definition you want.
If someone is not taken in or falling for his first tactic, he will move onto another. Keegan loves to battle his wits with another person, whether just for fun or for a higher purpose. He has been known in school to win someone over to his side with his words alone. He's also not above framing you, if need be. See, the more Keegan can use someone for his own advantage without having to do something for them in return, the more he loves said person. The more he loves said person, the more often they will see him around. He has little patience for those not taken in by his charms. If someone shows a lack of giving into him, he usually backs off. You are not worth the time if you fight back. Unless, of course, you want a verbal battle.
Money is a useful tool to better ensure someone follows you. Not often will he flash green in someone's face, spending most of his own large allowance on more plushies and dueling cards of many varieties. But if, say, he really needs this person to co-operate and he doesn't feel ransomed in doing so, he will get the money from his parents through the usual means of asking nicely and whining. No one touches his personal allowance but himself.
Vengeful // One thing you don't want to do is get on Keegan's bad side. When he was younger, he was a very destructive boy. Nothing super bad, just prone to destroying things of value to others or stealing what he could to either just throw away or plant somewhere to frame someone else. But as he gets older, he gets a bit more creative. It is a fortunate thing he doesn't carry a weapon around or have much physical strength to speak of, so he's not prone to being violent. Not that it would stop him from bribing someone else in the future to do the deed for him. And with all of his parents money at his disposal, he could be a very scary person to make angry. It is a good thing for everyone that he's super cautious when he deals out punishments, preferring to keep violence out of it in case it somehow comes back to him. The last thing he wants is to end up in a jail cell. He'll make you pay for whatever you've done to anger him, but he's not stupid about the method.
This doesn't apply so much to his personal hobbies, as losses are expected. He still takes his failures badly, but no one is in danger of being on his bad side and thus won't be getting any retaliation from him for beating him. He simply takes it as a learning curve and tries to do better the next time. And he will do better next time. He'll humiliate you with your defeat. If there's one thing Keegan's definitely doesn't do is forget who wronged him at any given point. He likely has it written down in his many notebooks and planners.
Arrogant // Keegan is better than you. At least mentally. With a genius-level IQ, it's really no wonder that he's let that go to his head. Coupled with his parents always praising him for "What a good job you've done" and the fact schoolwork has always been so easy for him, he's built himself quite an ego. Now that he's getting older and losing his childish face, he's only getting worse, realizing he's growing into quite the striking young man with the softest of pink hair. Like the cotton candy it resembles. And he'll make no attempts to hide this fact from you. At least he doesn't brag about it incessantly. Keegan just oozes self-importance from every pore in his body, he doesn't need to tell you how much better he is from you. You should already know. And if you don't, if you don't feel it radiating from him, you'll know just by the tone of voice he uses to address you. As if you were scum beneath his boots, not even important enough to whip off. Just toss you in the trash and get a new pair of shoes.
The only time that Keegan is not parading his ego around is when he needs you in a good mood, such as if you are doing him a favor or he just met you and wants to see how useful you will be to him. Or at least he tries not to let it show. His arrogance is so strong, it tends to show regardless if he wants it to or not. He's working on ways to better hide it or at least how to use it to his advantage.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Eyes: Dark red.
Hair: Cotton candy pink, fluffy, and down just a bit past his shoulders. He often has it in different styles.
Face: Round.
Skin Tone: Like a dark honey.
Body Type: Very lithe and standing at 6', Keegan has no muscle mass to speak of. His arms, legs, and waist are small and he looks like a single breeze could carry him away.
Clothes: Small, square framed red rimmed glasses, hollow heart necklace around neck. Keegan dresses like a fashionable young man. Which is an easy thing to do when your father is a fashion designer. He likes to stand out a little bit from his peers and refuses to wear anything too "common." Jeans, sneakers, simple tees or polos, all these are out of the question. Brand names only.
EXTRA
- Keegan's family moved directly from Ireland when he was 11 years old. His father is a fashion designer and his mother helps him. They taught Keegan how to use what God gave him instead of trying to modify it. In this respect, they taught their son well. In others, not so much. Keegan, on the other hand, wouldn't want his life any other way. His parents provide entertainment for the boy and give him a window into an authoritative position by manipulating them. He is, of course, an only child, given the spoiled attitude of him.
The family lives in the comforts of wealth. Keegan shows little control in using this to his advantage.
- He doesn't have an accent that's difficult to understand.
