Well, it seemed that Emiyn was truly on the ocean and headed to another foreign land. He had gotten the approval from the easy going captain and had quickly proven himself as fairly adept with reading maps and more importantly the weather. It was easy enough to whisper a breeze into the sails and the ship found itself quickly darting through the waves when they finally left Belrea. The Matori had found himself almost in disbelief when he woke up the second morning to the rolling feeling of the waves beneath him. Thankfully though he had his tiny room in the Misty Maiden to hide away in whenever he felt a bit uneased by the unfamiliar movements. He had only gotten to Belrea by airship so this was truly his first time being on the ocean after all. Emiyn didn't mind it when he was on the upper decks but when he was in his room at night it was a bit more uncomfortable than he liked. There was just something....strange about being surrounded by water yet not being able to feel the breeze against his skin. Such feelings often kept him tossing and turning until he finally gave in and started back upstairs so that he could roam the upper decks beneath the stars.
My second night and here I am again. Mused Emiyn quietly as he walked along the outer areas of the deck away from any of the night crew, his steps almost silent as he walked along with his gaze fixated on the shimmering ocean that completely surrounded them. Part of him was tempted to just slip overboard and swim in the depths but another, much more reasonable part of him strongly advised against the reckless idea. The young mage let out a soft sigh before glancing upwards towards the sky where he spotted a shooting star. "Would you look at that." He blinked in surprise before finding a smile crossing his lips. Shooting stars were surely a good sign, right?

The last few days had been a whirlwind of last minute preparations, touch ups, triple checks, and a rather stressful visit with the family. Yokka was exhausted, but sleeping was practically impossible. She could only lay her head down for a couple hours before her eyes snapped open. They were finally, finally, finally going to Kahikina, and she didn't want to miss a single moment of the journey. Her dream was coming true...
With the night shift quiet and uneventful, Yokka took up her usual perch at the bow of the ship so that she could see the ship cutting through the water. It was an intense feeling...
She blinked a couple times when a faint light shimmered in the water's surface. She assumed it was drops of water catching the moonlight.. She flipped to look up on impulse, just in time to see the tail end of a shooting star fade off. "Oh!" She jumped to her feet and ran for the mast, unexpectedly passing Emiyn along the way. "The crow's nest'll be the best spot to watch from!" she invited as she ran by, easily beginning her climb up the pole.

Emiyn nearly jumped out of his skin whenever Yokka ran past. "Wh-what?" He stammered while blinking at the spot where he had seen her for a split second. Eventually after the shock wore down the mage realized what she had stated. Oh? Oh! An invitation! A rare chuckle left his lips before he started climbing up behind her, his movements a bit more shaky though sturdy enough to get him into the crow's nest. "I hope you aren't lying to me!" He called out teasingly, his gaze bright as he took a moment to rest during his climb so that he could stare at the stars above. Perhaps he was being a bit too sentimental but it truly was a beautiful night.

Yokka yanked herself swiftly over the rail and looked back down with a grin. Hey, he was actually coming! "Have I lied to you yet?" she chirped back, stepping back from the ledge to give Emiyn room to climb up. She sat down and laid out on her back with her arms up behind her head. There wasn't much room up there, but there would be enough for two as long as she kept her knees bent.
Once she was settled in, her gaze rose back to the sky and the show being put on above them. With no huge sails on the way and only the tip of the central mast sticking up, it was indeed a much wider view to behold.

"I suppose not." Replied Emiyn with a small chuckle. So far she had been correct about a lot of things...including roping him into joining this adventure. A slight flush decorated his cheeks as he studied the geian woman relaxing there. It was a rather tight fit, wasn't it? I suppose that goes with the whole idea of a crow's nest. Emiyn mused before he slowly slipped into place alongside of her, crossing his arms in front of his chest so that he didn't accidentally brush against the other earthling more than what was necessary. Not that he minded the idea of touching her....but not like that! Oh spirits! He really had been around this rowdy crew a bit too long now. Emiyn felt his face warm up even more at the tangle of thoughts before he jerked his gaze towards the skies.
"So do you Belreans also wish upon stars or do you just enjoy the show?" He found himself asking after a moment, his amber gaze following another stray star as it streaked across the night sky. "Back home one would consider this a blessing for our voyage....here's hoping that's true."

Yokka only glanced over once Emiyn reached the perch, making sure he had room to lie down. Oblivious to the rolling thoughts next to her, she looked up at the stars with a light smile. "I suppose some of us do. I bet many would consider it too whimsical, but those are the stiffs in the city usually. I used to when I was little, only the shooting ones like tonight.. but it's been a while." She smirked lightly. "My dream's coming true right now anyway, so I don't have as much to wish for. A little extra good luck would be welcome though. What about you? Any wishing lately?"

"You think? I suppose before some crazy Geian convinced me to join this crew I would have laughed at the idea of wishes coming true." Emiyn confessed with a smile as he twisted so that he could look from the stars and towards Yokka. "I'm thankful that I did listen but now I don't know what to wish for other than clear sailing." He supposed that would do. Now that he was out of the situation that he was previously in the Matori really was afraid to wish for much more. He didn't want the spirits to consider him greedy, not when they had already given him a chance like this.
Speaking of chances...even if he had been teasing about it Emiyn realized he really never had shown his appreciation towards Yokka. The very thought made the navigator frown. It wasn't as if he were too proud to show his thanks, but rather that they had just been so busy preparing for this journey. "Truly though I really do appreciate your help, Yokka." He admitted softly with a flush. "I suppose I was a bit prickly when we first met but I'm really glad that you stayed around and stuck through my stubborn attitude."

A crazy Geian? Yokka laughed and reached over to give Emiyn's arm a playful swat. "Careful who you're calling crazy, sir." She was surprised to hear him express similar sentiments to her own, her smile softening. She really was happy with the implication that she had guided him correctly. Dare she admit it, she was downright pleased with herself for catching him for the crew!
Well, then the confirmation came. Her head turned to face the Matorian, brow cocking slightly. A real thank you? Before she could allow her smile to reveal too much warmth, she laughed again and shook her head. "You're welcome. I'm not exactly known for having a fluffy presence myself. I know I stubborned right back at you." She found herself having to shake off an oddly bashful hesitation before she spoke again.. "It's good having you here... just so you know."

"Hey I never stated anyone in particular just so you know." Teased Emiyn with a grin. Strange how the Matori felt so comfortable that he could actually play around rather than being his more solemn self. Had the last few weeks truly changed him so much? Either way Emiyn was happy that there were others who appreciated his company and actually seemed to care about his well being when before he had felt so utterly alone. Another star streaked across the sky as if to testify to the thought and Emiyn felt his gaze soften with the realization. This was truly nice indeed. Honestly the last couple of weeks had been the best of his life since leaving Matori. "I suppose we were like two prickly plants that just got stuck together instead of poking each other away."
Well, maybe he should have kept it to himself. Emiyn still felt a bit flustered when he finally admitted his thoughts and the next statement from Yokka only made his flushed cheeks darken some more. Thankfully it was dark so he hoped that it wasn't completely noticeable as he tried to shrug off the statement, as much as it made his heart flutter in his chest. "I suppose it would be a bit more difficult to travel without a navigator and more frustrating to deal with natural winds. indeed." He stated lightly. "Though I'm sure someone would have come along even if it weren't me."

"And I never said you were talking about anyone in particular. Just saying, be careful," she teased back. "Prickly!" She gave a dramatic gasp, but quickly snorted with amusement. "What's that saying? Birds of a feather and such. I guess we just managed to run into the right birds." A couple of sea birds... a bunch of sea birds, really. Practically the whole crew just seemed to fit.
Her brow knit slightly, head turning to stare right at the Matorian. "Yeah, it would be harder," she agreed, eyes narrowing slightly with a mix of suspicion and dismay. Was he implying feeling stuck with that plant comment? "Don't want anyone else.. If it wasn't you, we'd still be looking. You feeling a bit stuck here, Mr. Prickly?"

"Fair enough." Emiyn replied with a grin as he was caught in his own words. His amusement only grew at the tease and he couldn't help shaking his head at the Geian carpenter. They really had managed to somehow flock together, a relief that they got along so well considering how long they'd be stuck together on this ship. It really would be a long few weeks of sailing indeed. Either way Emiyn would rather be here than anywhere else in all honesty. It was surprising but honestly he was feeling like the Misty Maiden was his second home. Matori was comfortable for him, his family a security, but the ship and the open ocean? Well, that was what truly thrilled him and made him feel alive again.
The sudden turn of commentary had Emiyn blinking in confusion towards Yokka. Was she insulted by his words somehow? That hadn't been his intention at all! Emiyn's cheeks flushed slightly as he mulled over admitting his actual feelings and finally he just gave a shake of his head. "Not feeling stuck but rather humbled. It's been a long time since anyone has made me feel important or actually wanted." Like they needed him rather than just wanting to use him for some sort of gain like a puppet to be thrown away at will. The crew actually treated him like a person and it was taking some adjusting, especially when he had either been snapping defensively at others or apologizing the next moment the first couple of weeks on board. It was why for the most part he stayed away, just mostly out of shyness and wariness, and kept to himself while doing his tasks. At least he could relax more with Yokka around - that much he was finding out the more they interacted with one another. That and she would probably track him down and demand answers or something if he ever dared to try and avoid her, a thought that brought a small smile to his lips.

Yokka tried to stare down Emiyn, but the darkness kept her from being able to fully see his features. Those sweet features... "Well good," she huffed, reaching out to swat his arm again, "because you are wanted and don't let anyone tell you otherwise." Spotting another star fly across the sky, she had to wonder why she had gotten so worked up about the idea of Emiyn wanting to be somewhere else... It wasn't like she needed him; it was the whole crew that needed him! Right. Of course. "Like I said, it's good having you around. Don't you go running off anywhere now."

A warmth stirred in Emiyn's chest and he just found himself nodding at Yokka's words for fear that his actual voice would crack and give away the emotions swelling up within his throat. His amber gaze burned and he found himself having to stare away so that he could study the sky, a star streaking past as a reminder of why they had climbed up into the crow's nest in the first place. It was hard though to look at the stars when he had something even more interesting at his side and the very thought made his cheeks darken more.
"Don't worry, I don't think I'll be able to swim that far." Quipped Emiyn lightly when he found his voice again, "We are in the middle of the ocean after all." The Matori chuckled softly before settling in next to Yokka. "Looks like the stars will be going for a while so time to settle in." He commented quietly as he rested, his arm pressed lightly against hers while he stared at the night sky.

"Yeah... I told you this was the best spot to watch them from," she said, eyes locked on the sky. She could feel the subtle warmth against her arm, and it seemed to be trying to spread up to her face. "Well, here's to clear sailing." Yokka waited for another star to flash overhead before wishing hard for the smooth sailing they wanted, both literally and figuratively. An unexpected but cozy fog was rolling in, attempting to blend with her clear cut path as a sea-faring builder, and she wasn't sure how she really felt about that.
