Nasrin carried a small basket on her arm, the contents wrapped up neatly inside with a faded quilt folded over on top. The hybrid had spent a day learning from her Aunt in Matori and now she was headed towards the cliffs to meet Taaru. Apparently there was supposed to be a meteor shower tonight and the young mage had darted about town gathering goodies to share with her companion for the evening. There were even freshly baked berry tarts that Nasrin had woken up early to make for the occasion. If she had been back in Belrea then she would have even asked to borrow her father's lens to see the sky better but for tonight she settled on just hoping for a clear sky so that they could see the shooting stars. A colorful shawl covered her shoulders to keep off the evening chill from the ocean below and Nasrin wore a simple cream dress with a teal vest on top, the seashells and pearl buttons attesting to the local style. She even had comfortable sandals that she took off when she settled the blanket along the cliffs while waiting on Taaru to join her.

Taaru rushed towards the cliffs where he promised to meet Nasrin. The sun was already setting, and he was scrambling to not be late. He had been running around town, trying to find a specific craftsman to help him make a necklace out of a meteor shard. The meteorite had been found by some local merchant, and when Taaru heard about the meteor shower tonight, a perfect opportunity to remember the evening struck him. He decided he would acquire said meteorite, and take it to a skilled craftsman to fashion matching necklaces for him and his travelling partner.
Finding the craftsman was difficult enough, and getting the trinkets in a timely manner before the evening was even more so. I got them though. Hopefully I won't be too late, Taaru reflected as he clenched the necklaces close to his chest. He kept sprinting for the cliffs, until he came across the spot they decided on. He bent over trying to catch his breath, and gain his composure. He saw Nasrin sitting on a blanket already, waiting on his arrival, and the stars were already starting to dot the evening sky as the last of the sun's light faded to darkness. The moon was coming into full view, providing a soft light, and the sound of the waves from the nearby ocean serenaded the night like a relaxing melody.
"Haa, Haa, S-sorry I'm late." Taaru said through gasps of air.

Is he coming? Nasrin chewed on her bottom lip with worry as she watched the last few rays of sunlight sink into the ocean below. It was a lovely sight to watch the crimson and amber rays dancing across the receding ocean waves but a worrisome one because she had been hoping Taaru would show. Still, Nasrin kept some dancing lights nearby to light the way before also placing out a couple of colored glass orbs with little candles flickering inside. It would mark the path at least so neither of them would lose the path. Perhaps it did look a little romantic, something Nasrin realized with a blush, but she didn't get the chance to try to rearrange anything (for the third time) before Taaru finally appeared.
"No worries." She replied, her nerves fading at the familiar sight of her companion, and a small smile of amusement crossed her lips. "I hope you didn't run the whole way here...there's still a bit of time before the sun comes back I think." She teased lightly before unfolding a cloth full of little sandwiches made of local bread, honey, herbs and cheeses. A pitcher of water was also sitting on the blanket with wooden cups that Nasrin always had with her. The woven basket also had some fruits and her tarts as well for them to snack on. It was a fairly simple set up but she was content with it, especially when the stars were the main highlight of tonight. "Hopefully this is okay. " She stated looking towards Taaru once more as she offered him a cup of water.

Glacial Taaru, finally catching his breath, found the time to look at the nice little setup Nasrin had made. It was cute but when Taaru noticed the candles, the thought of something else flashed through his mind. A candlelit evening alone under the stars with Nasrin... If I didn't know any better... Taaru couldn't help but stumble to find the words to say anything. Could this be her way of saying she cares more about me than as friends would?
"Uh, Nasrin, I-" he cut himself off. He didn't want to be too hasty because he knew his imagination could run wild sometimes. "Yes, the whole setup is... Cute." He let out a chuckle. He sat down next to her in a relaxed position. He thanked her for all the food and started to munch on some of the tarts and sandwich pieces. After gulping some down and taking a drink of water, he looked down at his belt pouch. His mind floated to the thoughts from earlier. Maybe I could see how she feels with this gift...
"Nasrin-" his train of thought was cut off once more by a shooting star. One, two, three, four in succession all streaking the sky with a gentle but fleeting and quick light. He gasped, "Oh wow!"

"Ah, I'm glad you think so." Nasrin smiled with a slight blush. "I know that the cliffs can be a bit dangerous to climb at night so my Aunt insisted on bringing candles to mark the path..." Her voice trailed off as she shook her head, her curls bouncing with the movement, before she gestured to the dancing lights she had summoned as well. Thankfully they had kept her company until Taaru showed up which was something Nasrin usually relied on rather than being in the darkness alone. "Even though I can just make lights myself." Still, as she spoke she dimmed the lights to a dull bluish color until they finally flickered out of existence so that they didn't distract from the night sky above. It would be a shame to miss the shooting stars because of them and now that Taaru was here she felt more comfortable just leaving the flickering candles as their main light source along with the moon and stars above.
"Hmm?" Her soft blue eyes turned towards Taaru with interest before his sudden gasp had her glancing upwards towards the sky. "Oh! I guess the show is starting." She replied with a laugh as she pointed upwards towards another star as it flew across the horizon. "Do we make wishes now? I always had to make at least one whenever this happened back in Belrea..." Her voice trailed off thoughtfully as she peeked back towards Taaru, the faint sound of the waves in the distance the only sound she could hear besides her own heartbeat.

Taaru was amazed. This was the first time he had seen shooting stars in such great numbers all at once. He could recall but two times he had even seen them at all. He laid back onto the blanket and laughed at Nasrin's comment. "Yes, I suppose," He paused. "What do I even wish for...? I think I have just about everything I would need." He smiled and glanced towards her. Well save for one thing.
Taaru looked back at the sky, and listened to the ocean waves, and looked out for more shooting stars. He certainly was enjoying himself and Nasrin's company. The food was great too. "Ah, what a great night." He said aloud.

"What a lucky guy then." Teased Nasrin with a chuckle. "Though I suppose you're not wrong. We've been having some good and interesting adventures just getting to Matori and my family has been pretty welcoming." They even had helped get adjoining rooms at a local inn nearby so that Nasrin and Taaru could stay close to one another instead of being forced into the small guest room together at her Aunt's cottage. It was a nice little country feeling that reminded her of home despite being along the shoreline. They were just missing the high mountains of Belrea and the lush evergreens that marked the edges of her village, along with the endless fields of flowers of course. Honestly Nasrin was fairly content now that they were settled into the little Matori village and felt like she could finally breathe again without jumping at every shadow like she had been for the past couple of months.
"It is." Agreed Nasrin as she reached for a tart and slowly chewed on a bite. "I can't believe there's so many shooting stars tonight." It truly was a big event! No wonder so many people in the village were excited about it. Nasrin could have just stayed with her Aunt's family and invited Taaru to linger around the town but for some reason she enjoyed having a few moments alone like this. It was really nice. Her gaze darted towards Taaru, a flush decorating her cheeks, before another star caught her attention. "Better find some wishes since there's so many. It would be a waste of a star." She found herself teasing as she watched it fade across the horizon.

"Hm. Well, I have an idea." Taaru sat up and reached into his pocket. Slowly he pulled out the necklace he commissioned, in a fist, so as to not reveal what exactly it was. He gently opened Nasrin's hand, and placed her half of the matching necklace in it. seeing it in her hand was the first time he really had a good chance to examine them. One necklace was the insert circle, representing the three-quarter moon, and the other necklace was a one-quarter moon, with a notch towards the middle, serving as a link when the two were put together. They were both flat for the most part, but the rounded edges gave them some volume and were a metallic dark grey, almost obsidian polished to a shine. The pale moonlight resonated with the color and polish, almost giving them a pseudo glow. The half Taaru handed Nasrin was the one-quarter moon shape.
"I wish you would accept this gift, half of this necklace I got for us." He smiled at her, his cheesy line delivered exactly how he wanted it to go. "You know, something to remember tonight by."

Nasrin tilted her head with interest as she watched Taaru bring out some mysterious object. Her gaze narrowed suspiciously, her heart fluttering a bit, but she allowed him to place the mystery gift in her hand. Ever so slowly the young healer glanced down so that she could study the gift and a smile crossed her lips. "It's so pretty." She replied before looking back towards Taaru again. "You actually went out of the way to get matching necklaces for the meteor shower?" Amazement crossed her expression as she glanced towards the necklace once more and she couldn't help but to laugh. "It's great, Taaru. Thank you!"
Moving forward Nasrin flung her arms around Taaru's shoulders and gave him a tight hug. "Thank you so much. I love it." She repeated as she took a long moment to just linger there, her cheek nestled into the crook of Taaru's neck as she rested her head before slowly moving away again. How could she ever forget tonight after this? "And to think all I brought was some baked tarts..." She joked lightly as she turned the pendant over in her hands. "It represents the moon, right?" She asked thoughtfully as she tried to recall some of the astronomy books her father had borrowed from another academy member in the past. Scholars loved sharing knowledge with one another and he had often traded his own works about plants with others who specialized in other fields. Honestly though Nasrin was truly touched that Taaru had gone out of his way to get her such a lovely gift.

Taaru froze slightly when she hugged him and rested her head so close to his face. Thankfully she couldn't see his face because his blush was pretty bright. When she backed away, he nodded and said "Yeah, if we put them together..." He held his out and overlapped it with hers, completing the moon shape. "You get the full moon." He smiled at her, proud that the gift was working out. "It's made out of meteorite. I managed to haggle the sky rock from a merchant." He said proudly. "It fits the theme of tonight, and I figured I could thank you for all that you've done for me with a surprise.
He thought to himself, After that night with the dretch, my mind had been all out of sorts, but you pullerin...[i/] He couldn't bring himself to tell her that. Taaru felt he still needed to show her his strength of mind in the face of dangers and still wasn't comfortable showing her his sign of weakness. Deep down he still sometimes felt inadequate for his failures, but he swore he would do better, and having her to travel with and experience different things made him all the more confident.
He gingerly picked the necklace from her palm and sat behind her, stretched the cord around her neck, and clasped the necklace. Then he put his on and smiled his signature goofy smile. "Now we match!"

"That's wonderful." Nasrin traced a finger along the full moon shape. Who would have believed that such fine craftsmanship could be found even overseas? So many of those uppity Belreans would be astonished! The very thought brought laughter to her lips before Taaru's next statement caught her by surprise. "All...all that I've done for you?" She repeated with disbelief before tears slowly welled up in her soft blue gaze. "But I've not done much at all! You're the one who...." Her voice wobbled as she swallowed tightly against the rising emotions. "You're the one who has been supporting me this whole time! After everything that happened in the darkness I was so afraid to even move but having you at my side made me feel so much safer." The words tumbled out as tears slipped from her gaze and down her cheeks. Still, Nasrin didn't move until Taaru had finally clasped the necklace around her neck. Even then her only movement was to reach a hand upwards towards the pendant, her fingers curling around it for support as a small smile crossed her lips despite her tears in response to his own goofy smile. How could she cry in front of someone who was being so bright and kind to her?
"I'm glad we met, Taaru." Nasrin whispered before another star flew across the sky above them. Warmth spread through her chest at the sight of her traveling companion sitting on the cliffs with the stars above him. Even the sounds of the waves crashing against the cliffs below seemed like a whisper compared to the racing beat of her heart but Nasrin could only smile warmly at him as she kept her tangle of feelings to herself. "Honestly all of this is making it hard to find anything else to wish for." She joked to try and lighten the mood from her previous outburst. "This is too perfect a moment, truly."

Taaru scratched the back of his head in confusion. After a moment of deliberation, he shook his head. "I suppose... You should at least know you've been much more help than you realize." He said without looking at her, keeping his gaze up at the meteor shower. I'll tell you one day how much you have been keeping me anchored, safe from the current of life.
He chuckled. "I'm glad I met you too." His cheeks were warm and his heart pounding like a heavy drum. His statement was just short of a confession of his ever growing feelings for Nasrin. Is this truly what it's like to care for someone more than a friendship? I rather like this feeling... He couldn't help but look at Nasrin and smile at that thought, as another shooting star streaked the sky.

Nasrin could only shake her head in disbelief but the young healer didn't wish to argue about such things. It seemed they had helped one another much more than they had realized. Strange to think how she never expected to make such a bond in Tendaji but she was thankful that she had. She opened her mouth to say something but then closed it because honestly Nasrin didn't know what to say about the feelings growing inside of her heart for Taaru. Not yet at least. Her own flush grew as she caught a peek of him looking at her and the expression made her heart flutter again. "Well, I'll figure out some new wishes. Maybe a good breakfast tomorrow." She found herself blurting out before glancing back towards the sky. "There goes another one!" And just like that the girl settled into enjoying the celestial event and her time at Taaru's side.

Taaru felt content with the way the evening had proceeded and wouldn't change anything about it. Except maybe being able to express myself a bit better, but I suppose something like this will get easier with time... I hope. Whatever the future held in store, he was sure he wouldn't be alone. He had Nasrin to lean on and vice versa, and the two made quite the pair. "I suppose we will have to find some new wishes..." He muttered, suspecting that from Nasrin's reactions, she may have felt the same way he did. Perhaps that is what I'll wish for...
