When Faenna first stepped off of the ship and onto the port of the Matorian island, her whole body had been tense with excitement and anticipation. There she was with her twin, facing a true unknown! The decision to leave Chiume and their mothers to go explore on their own had been an easy one, in her opinion. Leaving without discussing it with their mothers first... well, still easy. Better to seek forgiveness later than ask for approval and get turned down. Besides, they left a note! Secure knowing that they had given sufficient notice, the girls were able to boldly forge ahead.

She was beside herself as she shimmied through the strange crowd, eyes eating up everything she passed by. Her fellow shipmates had talked up the mainland with gusto, and she was not disappointed! Edrao was definitely a bustling hub of activity! The merchant hub of Matori was only the first stop, too! With the world opening up like it was, she wanted to see as much as she could. "Bri! Bri! Look at this!" She shook her sister excitedly before tugging her along toward a stall that had woven patterns stretched between branches of coral. From those strands hung various little shells and stones. She saw a little note that had the word 'dreamcatcher' on it, but that wasn't an actual thing, right? She could go after a dream, but there was no way to actually catch one. "What do you think these are for? Is a dream a kind of fish here?"

Briallen was delighted that her sister had opted to travel with her to Matori. The young Alkidike had been dying for adventure ever since she could walk and this was surely the first of many journeys she would take during her lifetime. While she adored living in Chiume there was just something about traveling that called to her very spirit, almost like a wisp of wind constantly reaching for her so that she could move along from place to place like a floating leaf. While others had simply made wishes for happiness this new year, Briallen had determined that she would finally embrace that desire and turn into the traveler she always wanted to become.

Briallen's thoughts tumbled to a halt as she found herself getting tugged along after Faenna. "What, what?" She chirped in return, a grin spreading across her lips as they approached the stall. "Ooooh." Amazement crossed her features as she reached out a hand and touched several of the hanging ornaments, the movements making little clinks and chimes. "Maybe? Or can earthlings actually catch dreams? Apparently earthling magicians can do a lot of strange things." She replied with interest as she picked one up and held it up towards the light as if that would reveal more of its secrets.

The woman behind the stall got over her surprise and smiled lightly. "It may seem like magic to some. They give protection to you at night. If you put one in a window where you're sleeping, it will snag the bad dreams before they enter your head at night. Then the sun comes up and burns them away in the morning. We like our good dreams here."

Faenna had listened to the explanation with rapt attention. "How fascinating! That sounds like magic to me." She plucked up the item she had been touching for a closer look at the decorations. "I can't say I have many nightmares though," she cooed, running her finger gently along the threads.

"Oh!" Briallen grinned with excitement as she listened to the earthling's explanation. "They don't actually burn with real fire, do they?" She found herself asking, relief crossing her features when the earthling woman gave her an amused shake of the head. That was good! She could only imagine what type of chaos that would be to actually have the trinket catch on fire every morning after a nightmare. They would need to replace it every time!

"Oh really?" Briallen's antenna flicked with amusement at her sister's declaration. "Well maybe I'll grab a couple for our family in case anyone does happen to have a nightmare." The Alkidike nodded as she opened a purse to try and exchange the few coins she had made since selling some things to the crew on the ship. "Do you think there's any type of trinket to encourage adventures or something to help us grow as warriors?" She found herself asking Faenna thoughtfully as she tucked away a couple vibrant dream catchers, the colorful feathers of gold and teal having earned her attention.

Faenna shook her head. "Waking up to nightmares burning with real fire? That could be dangerous!" No that Faenna was one to shy away from danger, but she was thinking of all those homes that might catch fire if a dreamcatcher were places haphazardly! She looked over to her sister and grinned. "Well, I have heard our mothers talk about us and nightmares in the same sentence before," she teased. "If nothing else, they are quite pretty."

She turned to look along the line of stalls, her jaw going a little slack. There were so many to choose from! "There's got to be something, right?"

"There are many stalls with charms available," the Matorian chimed in helpfully. "Different stalls have different charms. I am certain that if you look, you will find almost anything you might be searching for here."

"Well it would definitely make you forget your nightmare." Teased Briallen with a grin towards her Sister. Just imagine how chaotic that would be! Her grin only increased at the comment about them being nightmares and Briallen could only chuckle in response. Of course! Though surely they were getting a bit better, right?

"Thank you!" Briallen thanked the shop keeper before glancing back towards her sibling, "So anything in particular you need a charm for?" She teased as she glanced between the stalls. There was also some food which made her stomach rumble but for now Briallen was focused on gathering as many trinkets as they could. Obviously the best way to start out their new year was with charms giving them plenty of bonuses for everything that they could want!

Faenna slowed down in her search, giving considerable contemplation to the need for charms. "An adventure charm sounds like just the thing," she finally agreed. "With so many stall though.. I bet the lady is right. There's probably a charm here for everything! Maybe some good luck charms would be good to have, too?" She leaned over another stall, peering at a collection of painted shells. Not charms, but they did look cool.

"Ugh! I want everything, but we have to be able to get it all back home," she whined playfully.

"I guess we'll just have to visit again." Quipped back Briallen playfully. "That or we'll send some of the Sisters home with our gifts and another message before seeing what the rest of the world has to offer." She was slightly joking but honestly there was a burning passion for adventure that never had quite left the young Alkidike. She did truly want to see everything that she could and obviously an adventure charm intrigued her. At least she knew Faenna shared some of her interests! No wonder their mothers worried about them...Briallen shook her head with a grin before her attention was caught by another stall full of vibrant crystals and chimes that swayed gently in the wind.

"Oooh look!" She pointed over there with a smile. "We could always see if any of those stones can provide us luck on our travels. They look small enough to carry in our satchels which would be perfect!"

Faenna perked up with the suggestion. "That's a great idea! I'm certain that they would be alright to deliver our gifts; especially if we make sure to offer them a little something as well for their troubles." Plus, sending along a letter to update mama and mima so that they could continue on their own adventures? Genius!

She walked away from the shells to see what Briallen had found, eyes lighting up with interest. "I know this one," she cooed, picking up a pale yellow crystal. "Some of the hunters use it so that the goddesses can always find them if they end up lost or alone."

Briallen nodded. "I would think so, right?" She agreed. Surely some Sisters wouldn't mind carrying back some gifts to their family back on Chiume! It would be a great way to let their Mothers know that they were celebrating the new year all the way over in Matori. Hopefully gifts would also ease any punishments that they would surely receive upon their return.

"Oh really?" Briallen blinked with surprise as she studied the crystal that Faenna picked up. "So what about this blue one then?" She mused as she picked a smoother stone that had caught her attention. "Any idea?"

Faenna grinned and nodded. ""Yeah, because it looks to some like fire in solid form. A beacon for Aisha to keep track of them considering how thick the forests on Chibale and in Jauhar can get. I bet it gets used a lot more now with all the traveling Aishans get to do now."

She leaned over to look at the blue one, eyes narrowing as she scrutinized the shimmering gem. "I think this is one of the meditation stones that are supposed to clarify a certain aspect of your mind or your body or something. It works with those other four that were next to it. That would be good for freshening up for the new year."

"Oh wow." Briallen actually smiled in amazement as she reached over to grab a golden crystal for herself. "I suppose we should both carry one then so that the goddess can watch over us in our travels!" She was thoroughly impressed with her sibling's knowledge and she couldn't resist picking up several crystals for them to look over. It was almost like a pop quiz as she kept asking Faenna about things. "What about this one or this one?" She asked, her antenna flicking with interest as she skimmed over several gems.

"I think I'll buy a small satchel of gems and then we can go ahead towards food or something before retiring for the night." She suggested with a grin towards Faenna. They still had a lot of traveling to do after all!

Faenna sorted through the yellow stones until she found one that fit perfectly into her palm. Small enough to be unobtrusive in her pack, but big enough to be reassuring in her hand. While she couldn't put a use to every crystal Briallen pointed out, she thought that she had the majority of them pretty well labelled. "I am definitely ready for a meal. ...First though, maybe we should get you this peach one and find you a girlfriend on this trip!" she teased, gently tossing it to her sister with a wink. With so much journey still ahead of them, anything could happen!

"Pffft!" Briallen did flush a bit though at the idea of a girlfriend. Imagining adventure was one thing but she didn't ever think about romance! Especially in a land full of earthlings. Just imagine what the reactions would be like...Briallen had to shake her head at the thought before focusing again. "Let's just see about some lucky stones and see what the future holds. Maybe we'll find someone for you instead!" She teased with a playful wink before handing over coins for her purchase. They could finish shopping up here and then she would get a huge meal. There was that place where they grilled so much meat and she was definitely eager to try some of those Oban and Matori spices!
