Aaaa~ the park! Such a fun place to just go to and train, jog, or even just relaxing! Maokai enthusiastically sprinted until reaching a fluffy pile of grass and just falling on top, it hurt a bit but he didn’t care, it was just too fun! “it has been way too long since I visit this place! It’s exactly as I remember it, awesome” He would say as if he was talking to someone even though he was completely alone, he then raised his head as he noticed a familiar figure, it wasn’t someone he knew but one of the students he remembers seeing sometimes around the school, Maokai got up and walked towards the student who seems to be holding a spear and was right in front of the pond “sorry to bother you but hello! You attend Beacon academy as well right? My name is Maokai, it’s nice to meet you!” he said with a big grin as his sharp teeth were flashing from the smile “so what are you doing with this spear? Are you going to chug it as far as you can?!” he asked a bit loudly, he didn’t even think of the option of the spear being for fishing seeing as he never fished before. Post count: 31 Out Of Chomps:

Xanthe Shaw Xanthe walked to the park with a small bag of bread and a permit that the grounds keeper had assured him was necessary in order to fish in the pond. She had been the previous week to inquire about it, from past experience she had learned that things rarely worked as they should in the city and it was better to ask, than do. Well, in most cases. Some things were just easier if you did first, this certainly was one of them, but hindsight was twenty twenty and now the gardener would know if she was doing it illegally. She approached the pond and took out a slice of bread, it wasn't fresh, just going hard which was perfect for what she needed. She crushed it up in the bag and hurled the crumbs onto the surface. Then she waited, eyes fixed on the water, several ducks swarmed the area but quickly lost interest. The crumbs were too small or perhaps too old for them and they swam off towards an old man who had just arrived. There! She saw it, a splash small but definite. She went back to watching, not prepared to get her feet wet for... Her thoughts were interrupted as a she saw her prey slip out of the water, fat from bread and algae, it was about a foot long maybe more, it raised it's tail and swam away. It was on. Xanthe set to work slipping off her socks and shoes, she wasn't prepared to walk about in wet socks all day. That done she moved closer to the waters edge and eyed the water, she moved to grab her spear and waiting for the last of the crumbs to sink. The plan was to get it when it fed on that. She breathed the air and tasted it, slipping into focus. When suddenly someone was at her side and speaking. She blinked a few times, snapping herself out of it and turned to the speaker. "I... What?" She looked at him for a moment, probably a little harder than she normally looked at people, but that could hardly be helped. "Xanthe." She offered, then took a deep breath and decided that the matter at hand needed more attention than a fish in a pond. "It's nice to meet you too." She looked around to see if this was some sort of wind up. "I was going to hunt." She admitted, it was a far cry from a real hunt but damned if she was going to call it fishing. "No... I wanted to hit something this side of the park." She laughed at her inability. "What can I do you for? That is... What do you want?" She kept it light hearted but was curious why he had sought her out. Semblance: Inactive Post Count: 20

Maokai got excited a little “hunt you say? So that’s what the spear is for?” he then looked at the many fish in the pond and tilted his head a bit “in this side of the park? Oh, you mean the fish? That sure sounds like a fun time! I should probably get some fish for dinner tonight” he would say to himself as the image of a salmon fillet rushed into his head ’ yea… that would be fantastic’ though he would quickly shake his head as she asked him what was it that he wanted “oh! Amm… honestly I just wanted to have a chat with you, more friends never hurt right?” he chuckled nervously as his blood-red eyes looked over to the pond “do you need some help with fishing? That is if you want me here of course” he said with obvious nervousness in his tone, meeting new people while fun, he always had the worry of them not liking him especially after getting to know him better. Xanthe Shaw Xanthe put the spear back on her back and rolled her shoulders. He seemed to be going through the motions of answering himself and she wondered if she should interject at some point. It was probably for the best that she was hunting fish and not seals, there was an unspoken rule that questions were to be kept at a minimum during the event. She had once spent a hunt inside a sack at the edge of the beach because she hadn't been able to read the mood in that regard. She didn't want to sound condescending by answering with the obvious so instead opted to just agreeing with him. "You can do a lot with fish." She nodded, it was true. Her village had subsisted on fish, shellfish and other things that were neither one, nor the other, but came from the sea. "Oh, huh..." It wasn't that she was deeply suspicious of others, the opposite, it was more that in her time in the city and even before that, nobody had ever spoken to her because they felt like it. She reasoned it must happen, because it was happening now. "Well I don't mind, but you seem a little under prepared." She grinned at him, then shook her head. "Your at beacon? What classes have you done?" Instead of forcing him into the pond she instead wanted to know if they had anything in common. Seemed like a better place to start. Semblance: Inactive Post Count: 21

Maokai simply chuckled when she mentioned that you can do a lot with fish, she wasn’t wrong! Fish had so many tasty things you can do with them and so many different tastes to any kind of fish; if he were alone he would have probably drooled only by the thought “Oh don’t worry about me! I had my fair share of hunts in my life” he said with a stretch and while he didn’t quite like bragging about his dark past, it was true that he was a part of many hunts through… they were quite different than hunting animals “yea I study at Beacon, been in combat class with the teacher Rachel, she is… quite scary I’ll be honest” he chuckled a bit as he scratched the back of his head “and what about you Xanthe? What was your class?” he asked curiously, he wanted to know more about his newly acquired friend! Post count: 33 Out Of Chomps:

Xanthe Shaw Xanthe nodded, unconvinced. "Is that so?" She inquired. "And how are you going to catch it? Or get there? I mean, no offense but I don't see you as the type to be able to walk through water without splashing up a storm." Honesty wasn't, as some people insisted, always the best policy. Xanthe didn't mean anything bad by her statement, it was just the the truth a** she saw it. "By all means, prove me wrong." She motioned towards the pond as she contemplated who Rachel might be, most of the staff insisted on being called professor as a rule and she hadn't met any that had insisted on just the first name. "What happened?" She asked, unsure as to whether the woman was scary or the class, perhaps she was some sort of hydra faunus and had three heads, Rachel just being the middle one and the others just screamed relentlessly. That would be pretty scary. She didn't share this image as it probably said more about her than was warranted. "Oh, I did the grimm class, they took our weapons off us then released like a hundred bat things... Not sure how they kept them all in the courtyard, but they did, and then we had to run to the other side and not get our ears torn off." It had been a pretty cool day all in all. "As you can tell, success." She gestured towards both ears and how they were still intact. "I guess it was a lesson in not letting people take your weapons before something called 'Grimm class'... Or something." She was joking of course. Semblance: Inactive Post Count: 22

Maokai started to laugh nervously, he did not think this much through as usual “well… when I said the fair share of hunts I meant other types of animals. I don’t think I ever went fishing but I-it shouldn’t be that hard right?” his rash behavior got the better of him this time, now how was he supposed to get those fishes on shore with him… “I… unfortunately, can’t prove you wrong” he said disappointedly as he scratched the back of his head, it could have been so cool to impress his new friend with it! “well, the class itself wasn’t so bad. She asked us what our favorite type of dust and by the answer, we said she would change the arena we fought on, she then told us to either fight one of the huntsmans she brought over or one of the other students and I fought a student named Feralis. I lost the fight but man that was fun! Though Rachel herself… the way she acted and the things I heard about her combined with the smell she gave off, was just like my parents” he shook his head “sharks are… they are scary” he said silently to himself, not being fully aware Xanthe was one as well, he would then listen to the Grimm class she went to which sounded so cool! He would laugh a bit when she gestured towards her ears “yea, weapons seem very important when you go into a Grimm class, in our class, our weapons were taken as well but since we fought each other it was less of a problem, it honestly made it better!” he would say with a bright smile “ though I guess we wouldn’t have passed if we didn’t give away our weapons” though in Maokai’s case it didn’t matter, seeing how he didn’t have a weapon at all. Xanthe Shaw Xanthe slapped him on the back when he admitted that he couldn't prove her wrong, on reflection is had been a little harsh to suggest it. She wouldn't have minded if he had given it a go either, but what should couldn't stand was idle boasts, it just rubbed her up the wrong way. "Ah, don't worry about it, the permit is for a week. Besides that old guy has started feeding the ducks, it'll throw things off." She grinned at him, then reached down to pick up her shoes. As she saw it there wasn't a good enough argument to put her shoes or socks back on yet. "So say you picked the red one... Fire?" She had read a pamphlet on dust which had been provided by the academy, it seemed useful in the same way firearms seemed useful, unconvincingly but she was prepared to be proven wrong. "And then she makes an ice arena for you to duke it out in?" In her mind's eye it made for a cool arena. "She stunk? I mean she is the combat teacher." She paused, to consider his words, now working off a misunderstanding. "Are they also into fitness?" She was inclined to think that wasn't what he had meant. "Hey, we're not all bad." She had far too many teeth in her mouth to hide what she was and had seen the same in him. Though perhaps he was just something similar and Rachel was a shark, it wasn't fair to just assume. "The real things are something else though." She motioned her head for him to look and then turned so he could see the bite mark on her leg, then turned back and winked, it was gone and not to be stared at. "So what is your weapon?" It was a bid to even the playing field since he knew what she used. Semblance: Inactive Post Count: 23

Maokai shook his head at Xanthe’s answer, fire dust is nice and all but it was not his answer “nope, I chose the ice dust which made a big icy tundra arena! Oh, it was awesome. Feralis chose the gravity arena and because we decided to fight each other Rachel decided to combine the arenas, making a very weird arena with floating ice all around that we could actually stand on” he smiled the entire time he explained, though that smile quickly went into a small toothy frown as he exhaled “she didn’t stink but… do you know the feeling when there is that smell in the air that tells you something is wrong? Or that there’s someone dangerous around? That’s the exact thing I could smell on her, it was too familiar” he said with a shook of his head before he jumped in place out of the sudden spook of her words, how did he not notice already?! “y-you’re a shark too?!” he said with slight fear in his voice though he quickly calmed down and smiled “I’m actually relieved to know you are a shark Faunus like me, lets me know they aren’t all a bunch of cannibals. Sorry, I sound rude but… I didn’t have a lot of good experience with our kind” he chuckled nervously as she revealed a bite mark on her leg for a few moments before hiding it once again with a wink, without a word he tugged the neck of his shirt to the left, revealing a similar bite mark on his shoulder before hiding it again “well, I don’t really use a weapon unless you count those cards” he said as he opened the pouch on his hip, revealing a deck of throwing cards that each glowed in a different color, each with a different symbol on it resembling the dust type on it. Xanthe Shaw Xanthe nodded along as she enjoyed the image of fighting in a field of floating ice. A three dimensional arena where any which way could have been up, she pictured massive floating icebergs linked by ice sheets, torrents of water flowed around moving the arena around. Her imagination probably didn't match reality, but to have fought in that must have been something. "Sounds amazing." She conceded, before sighing it away. "Oh. Like a stillness? Like your a little fish in the wrong pond and before you sits a monster, hungry and waiting." She'd known times like that, right before things went bad, the quiet gnawing that said this was it, fight or flight. "Ah." She said, connecting some dots that might not have been there and nodding to him. "Fear." She concluded. "Nothing wrong with that, it's healthy to know when your out of your depth." She knew that, could relate to it, but clearly he had a problem with sharks in particular. Nothing to be done. "I feel like I'm in the minority now, nobody from back home ate people... Except for that one time, purely accidental." She felt she owed him an explanation since he'd clearly met the worst sharks before now, and didn't want him to think her some sort of maniac. "It was Beltain, feasting time, one of the hunters brought a stew he'd made himself while steaming, he'd only gone and chopped off his finger at some point and not noticed. I know what you thinking, how can you chop off a finger and not notice or bleed out?" She gave an enthusiastic shrug. "Someone ate it, wasn't in his kitchen when we looked the next day." She saw his scar and nodded, fairs fair she thought. "Do you? You have to sell them to me. You could say you use a cocktail umbrella and as long as you were confident enough and prepared to follow, I'd buy it." She laughed at the notion. Semblance: Inactive Post Count: 24

The way Xanthe described the smell was… quite accurate in some ways, though the best way for him to describe it was with the word nostalgic, way too nostalgic “yea, fear” he said with a head shake “may be nothing wrong with it but it’s still something I wish to get over” he would sigh at his weakness before opening his eyes wide “wait there is a whole village of sharks?! If you say they aren’t anything like what I know then I would love to visit one day!” he replied excitedly, listening to her feasting story “but how can you not notice when you chop off your own finger?! Even if you don’t feel the pain surely you’ll feel something is missing… weird” that story made him chuckle, he never thought he would meet another shark that was as harmless as he is right now “sell you my cards? W-well I don’t think I can do that haha… they are quite important to me. Wait, cocktail? Umbrella? I... what?” he would look at her confused as she began to laugh and that made him start laughing as well, did he understand why? nope! Not at all! “I usually focus on punching things when I fight though, my semblance makes my fists much stronger than they are but I really need to work on controlling my temper while the semblance is activated” . Xanthe Shaw Xanthe nodded, she sympathized, there was a scar in her deep down that couldn't heal that fear and hate seeped from, she knew it and when she closed her eyes and focused she could almost feel it weighing down her soul. She didn't want to dwell on it, not here and now, that wasn't the point, she felt her spear on her back and let the dread pass, before it came flooding back as he asked about her village. He couldn't have known so she couldn't hold it against him. "There was." She answered, and gave a sad smile. She rarely spoke of going home, with reason, her heart couldn't bear the idea of it. "There aren't many of us left, less than a handful made it to Vale. I could introduce you to them... I suppose." She didn't like the idea, nobody was really the same now, she had joined the academy to try and stop hurting but nothing really worked, it was just a distraction. She hadn't meant to bring down the conversation and took a moment to compose herself. "There weren't just sharks though, just we were the majority. But he was really out of it for a few days after that." Her tone had changed and it was back to fond memories over harrowing reality. "It's your weapon, you chose them over something else. Surely someone said you can use something else if you don't like them. Sell them, tell me what makes them better than my spear. Well, not my spear, the blade is over twenty years old, sharp enough to puncture thick seal hide and rip flesh on the way out." She demonstrated with a hand gesture that left itself open to misinterpretation by onlookers. "Nice, mine, get this, make me really heavy." She raised her eyebrows. "And then... I struggle to move for a bit until it wears off." She nodded to herself, fully aware of how stupid she was making it sound. "I mean yours sounds good, but I can tell your irrationally jealous over mine. Only natural." She laughed to herself, unable to keep up the facade. "You want to get something to eat?" Since fishing was off the table, it only made sense to go and eat instead. Semblance: Inactive Post Count: 25

As fast as Maokai’s excitement began to rise it also went down “oh… I see” it saddened him even if he never met anyone there “hey… It’s ok if you don’t want to if it hurts you to do so then please don’t” he would give her an understanding nod before she explained and sold her weapon to him “oh I see! Well those cards may seem a little weird for a projectile but they are actually quite aerodynamic if you throw them right, it takes a bit of practice but with enough experience, you can easily cut fruits and vegetables with normal playing cards hehe… and with cards like this you can do much more!” he said proudly with a big toothy grin as he listened to her semblance which she said in a very weird way but Maokai gasped in the excitement in her answer “well it sounds quite nice! My semblance does have its drawback as well you know. Firstly, I don’t really control it, there needs to be the smell of human/Faunus blood for it to activate which means I mostly can’t really control it. Secondly I… never mind” he said with a head shake, he was not ready to just tell her he loses control over his mind at one point, it wasn’t yet time “yea I would love to get something to eat. Seafood?” he would ask with a small grin, they were talking about fishing earlier after all. Post count: 37 Out Of Chomps:

Xanthe Shaw Xanthe shook her head. "I'm here, I represent the village, we don't eat people. One day we'll take it back and then, I'll show you round." A part of her really believed it, and another part really didn't. But that was her burden and she no longer wished to dwell on it. She listened as he sold her his cards, she wasn't convinced they were for her even in the have a bash with, in a fun kind of way. They sounded like they required considerably more accuracy than she was capable of summoning. "So you just flick them." She looked at her fingers as she worked out the motion, there wasn't that many ways to throw cards and after experimenting with her thumb and forefinger for a second settled on her fore and middle fingers. She hadn't seen anyone throw cards before but it seemed the most natural, or at least, the least awkward. "Like that? And you can hit things? Sweet." Which is what she found the most impressive about it, betraying her lack of skill. She nodded when he said he couldn't control it and made a mental note to herself. "Not any blood? I was thinking of going to the food vans near the market and their always gutting things down there." They could always go the long way, she supposed. "There's a van like that, I think." They rotated and it was really just a mixed bag of what you might get, there was a fish van that parked there so maybe he would get lucky. "Let me just get these on." She dropped her shoes, sat down on the grass and started putting them on, without caring much for how dirty her skirt might get. "They put you in a team yet?" She asked without looking up.
