There are many superstitions and beliefs in Tendaji, often originating from the culture and gods of each individual region. Wherever one goes, they might find a new routine or practice based on the region they are in. However, there seems to be one thing that all Tendaji residents believe in - the power and beauty of a meteor shower.
The rare celestial event is seen as a blessing, and this one just so happens to have appeared right when the New Year began. Oh what luck and what a great omen - this must be a sign of good fortune for the year to come.
[ How does your character react to the meteor shower that is lighting up the sky? How do they see this omen impacting their life and year to come? Explore the thoughts and experience either alone or with a friend. ]

Sol's last expedition into Sauti had been brief at best. He'd been on his way to Jauhar to welcome the newest additions into the family so he hadn't really given the scenery much thought. Now that he and Koril were on their way South he had much more time to really 'enjoy' it; as much as he could, anyway. Without Sev's constant presence he felt almost naked and like he was relearning how to walk all over again.
Admittedly it was nice to be able to shed some of his protective layers, though. Walking around in a lighter tunic instead of thick furs made his muscles all the more defined and felt as if he'd shed a mammu's worth of weight.
They'd met up with a traveling band of nomads who offered to let them camp with them overnight for safeties sake. As sparse as Sauti was it still had it fair share of predatory beasts and Sol knew the benefits of a larger group verses trying to make it out on their own. Of course Koril had his own creatures, but none of them were particularly 'threatening', at least in Sol's opinion. As night wore on Sol could practically feel the vibe around camp changing. Something about the sky? He furrowed his brows and lifted his hand, hand steady on the mallet he'd been using to fasten the ties surrounding their tent. Was the moon full tonight or...?

While having a home every night had been a comfort, Koril could not deny that he was enjoying being back on the open trail and in a warmer climate. This was different than usual anyway. This time, Sol was with him! That made all the difference and the missing coziness of the cabin worthwhile. He couldn't help comparing it to their last trip together, knowing they would be parting ways in Jauhar... By the time they'd gotten to their last stop, he'd been wondering if he could actually leave the other man behind. There would be no parting this time!
They had travelled with nomads at some point on that trip, too. He was currently heating up their meal and wondering if he could get Sol to dance with him. His thoughts fell to the side with the sudden flurry of activity though, attention rising to search through the crowd until he realized their attention was all focused at the sky above.
He looked up and gave a gasp of delight. "Sol!" He crawled the few feet to poke at Sol's side. "It's a star shower. Make a wish!" His excitement faltered slightly though, eyes resting wistfully on his boyfriend. There was no way Sol would be able to see the display above their heads...

Even Koril's doing it? Sol sat back on his haunches and rested one arm on his thigh. Curiosity pulled at him as the hybrid turned towards his boyfriend. It was hard not to hear the other man's shuffling, but the poke caught him off guard, as was evident by the way his body jerked.
"A star shower?" Oh, so that was it....The darker man let his breath out on a sigh and turned to go back to his work. It wasn't something he could 'see' so much as he could feel and that helped to take some of the sting away. "Pretty sure wishes don't work if you can't see it happening."

The nomads around then had their heads cranked back, gawking openly with admiration and awe at the spectacle above. Practically everyone was enjoying the view... Why did things happen in such a way? Brow knitting, Koril glanced at the sky a moment before shaking his head. "That doesn't sound right. Even if you can't see the stars, the stars can definitely see you." He scooted closer to peek at the ties Sol was securing. A guy as capable and resilient as Sol certainly deserved to have his wishes heard! He reached out to touch Sol's arm, resisting the urge to suddenly jab like he had before. "I'm sure they'll hear whatever you ask for."

He may have continued if not for the gentle touch that caused Sol's hammer to falter. For a second his brow pinched before finally relaxing as the man himself turned towards his boyfriend. It was easy enough to imagine the kind of look he had even if Sol couldn't verify it. Koril didn't deserve Sol's self deprecation, especially not during a moment that was obviously so magical to those that could appreciate it.
"What do I have to wish for when you're right here?" He twisted his arm just enough so that he could slide his hand into Koril's. "I think if I had to wish for anything else it would be for your parents to like me. Surely I'm not what they had in mind when they pictured what their son would drag home."

It was a relief to see Sol's expression relax a little, and he gently squeezed the fingers that linked with his own. "Aww! You're so sentimental," he teased lightly, leaning in to press a kiss to Sol's fingers. Truthfully, the sweet little question had him melting all over inside.. but he wasn't the focus here!
Was that Sol's wish? ..Now that was sweet. "I have no doubt that they will very much like you." He couldn't help a playful laugh. "They'll just be relieved to see it's a real person and that I'm not using 'boyfriend' as code for another pet." Of course, Sol could be fairly primal in the best ways..... "It's a good wish though. I know the stars heard it for you. Some of them even look like they have your hair with their long tails flowing behind them!" He reached his other hand up to brush back a few of Sol's loose strands from his cheek. "Is that where your hair came from? Starlight?"

"Tell anyone about it and I'll put honey in your hair." Maybe it was a tease, maybe it wasn't; from the way Sol was smirking one couldn't tell. It shouldn't make his heart flutter like some kid's when Koril was being sweet, but he really couldn't help it. If he had it his way Koril's hand would just melt with his own and they would exchange kisses all day, everyday!
...Not that he would say anything that embarrassing.
"...How many 'pet' boyfriends have you brought home?" Sol laughed. It was just so boldly weird that it just fit Koril. "Don't say they have my hair; I don't need to know how many b*****d children my Papa has." He couldn't help keeping up the smile, though, and even as he said it he was relaxing. "Hearing that it comes from starlight is a lot nicer than the truth. When I was a kid Papa told me I was as bright as the sun, but then I learned I got it from his mother and that kind of sucked the fun out of it. She was...a piece of work." Unwilling to have their moment ruined, however, Sol leaned in towards Koril until he could bump his shoulder against the other's. "What about you? What's your wish?"

Koril laughed and shook his head, free hand rising to protectively cover his head. "Oh no! Flana and Mekameko would both be licking my hair all day if you did that!" Not to mention that it would be an absolute bear to get out... hence the legitimately scary threat.
"Just a couple," he said with a playful pout. He had always been bringing animals home before. His parents had been amazingly tolerant.
Then he heard about Sol's grandmother, and that was enough to temper his energy. He couldn't imagine not being delighted to share something with any member of his family. A calmer smile rose and he shook his head, his hand lingering along the edge of those golden locks. "Yeah, the sun's too brash to be your hair. It's much softer than that.."
When talk went back to wishes, he sat back and leaned lightly against Sol. "Well, I like your idea. I really hope your parents like me... but I'm also wishing for us to find the perfect place to live together. Someplace with lots of animals for me and people for you to work on and a nice home for us to spend time together in."

"Maybe you'll have to cut your hair then and I'll stop waking up to a gob of it in my face." He teased, playfully nudging the other man. Of course he really didn't care what length Koril's hair was, so long as he was happy with it, but waking up to being smothered by it really was annoying.
"My parents are going to love you." Once they got over the fact that he was half Oban, of course. They did still have hang ups about that. "You got me out of Zena for the first time in years, and you make me happy so I can't imagine a single thing they'll say against you." It might come as a shock that their shut in child had a lover of his own, but Sol knew that once his fathers really got to know Koril that they would treat him well.
"A home of our own...You know, you're starting to sound like an old man. Wanting to settle down with your babies and all."

Koril laughed again. "You're one to talk," he huffed playfully, giving Sol's hair a light tug. He did make a mental note though. Perhaps he should get some extra ties to secure it while they slept? After all, he had fallen victim to waking with his own hair in his mouth before. "I'm not sure I could handle cutting my hair anyway. It's been long since.. forever!"
Of course, Sol's assurances about his parents had Koril absolutely melting... He leaned further to wrap his arms around his boyfriend and nuzzled Sol's jaw lightly. It was strange to feel such concern about what someone might think of him. His easygoing mannerisms had never been put on the spot in such a way! If they didn't like him... but Sol seemed certain. "Just ready for a change, I guess. I think the stars are agreeing." he mused. "But I certainly am not ready to be an old man."

"You're clearly the bad influence, here. My hair was much shorter before I met you." Sol reached over to pat first Koril's shoulder and once he found the other man's hair he gently looped a chunk around his finger. "So long as you're up North I would advise against experimenting with length. Hats and hoods can only do so much to keep you warm." And he knew first hand after foolishly trimming back his locks in his youth. He'd practically gone all winter covered in fur!
"I thought you were watching the stars?" Sol chuckled, shifting his position so that he could cuddle his boyfriend. "How can you even see them if you're this close to me?" The noises around them had died to a quiet murmur that seemed to match the 'majesty' of the night. Even if Sol couldn't see it he could feel the energy passing through Koril and that was enough for him.
"Old man Koril...," He murmured. "Which one of us do you think will have the cane and which one wouldn't be able to hear a mammu if it was in the bedroom?"

Koril hummed with amusement. "Not sorry~" he teased. Those occasions where Sol sat and let him brush that hair was just gold! "I'll keep that in mind. If I do cut it shorter, maybe it will only be a little shorter rather than anything drastic."
The stars? Oh, right! The stars! "How sappy would it be to tell you that I'm curently looking at the brightest and most handsome star? Too much?" He stroked Sol's hair again, recalling his observation from before. Starlight in solid form... Inherited from a crazy mother or not, it was still utterly luxurious.
"What'd you say?" he asked, playfully pretending that he already couldn't hear while his voice took on a subtle old man shake.

Sol couldn't help groaning. "You're so corny." Still, he smiled a little afterwards and there was a distinctly darker tint to his cheeks. Would he trade these moments for the same with anyone else, though? Not a chance. If anything the overly sappy sentiments endeared him to the other man all the more and it felt incredibly good to be valued so much.
"Are you my grandson?" He, too, took on a shakier quality to his voice and even went as far as to change the pitch a little. "I shouldn't even joke about this; I'm already blind and I walked with a stick. Anything else and you may as well leave me on a stump."

Koril snorted with amusement, covering his mouth to keep from laughing too loudly. After all, he didn't want to break the enchantment that those around them had with the stars flying over them. As he had said though, he had his own personal star to admire. "Just a stump? Come on, you know I'd at least give you a whole tree~" He chuckled lightly and gave that smooth jaw another nuzzle.
One peek was spared just once more, repeating his wish in his mind. If the stars could really help wishes...
