Some reports had spread from the academy about a meteor shower happening tonight. It was actually going to be over the city that the troupe was stationed in for the week and a lot of the members were going about back and forth to make plans for the evening. Some would stay with friends, others would sneak off with lovers and the little ones would be entertained by their families while the other less fortunate friends would enjoy the sight by themselves with a bottle of strong alcohol. Cyril had found that one out the hard way by accidentally picking up the glass bottle and giving it a taste when he thought it was the normal fruit juices that the local market sold. Since he already had taken a sip the fire dancers just laughed it off before gifting him the bottle to share with his twin - under the condition that they didn't tell their mother its origins of course should they be caught. Normally Cyril would have scoffed at such antics but tonight felt different so here he was walking back towards the wagon shared with his brother, the bottle wrapped securely in a leather satchel and his cheeks slightly flushed. Their mother would probably be out with Valmon or something and so he expected that tonight's meteor shower would either be spent well alone or hopefully with at least Selim if his brother was still around. Already the sun was sinking beneath the horizon and Cyril found himself glancing upwards towards the sky as he took the final few steps forward.

Ever since declaring his intended career path to his mother, Selim had been training harder day after day. His studies had sort of dropped off because...well, it was a lot easier to get out of book work now that he had actual work to focus on. Besides, what traveler’s son was really prepared to be a scholar of all things? Now, though, he had the night off and for once he wasn’t super mad that his mother was spending it with her boyfriend. She...needed the time to be an adult, even if he hated the thought of it.
Still dressed in his practice gear, with just a coat thrown over top, Selim went in search of Cyril. Turns out he didn’t have to go far, which was good, but - “What’s that?” Whatever Cyril was holding was a little suspicious, but that didn’t make him any less curious.

Ah. There was his remarkable brother. Cyril's gaze lit up in the evening light as he gave a slight wave towards Selim. "What's what?" He asked with a blink, a bit uncharacteristically less...stoic than usual, before his fingers found the bag at his side. "Ah, the fire dancers gave me a gift to share with you. Are we going to be watching the stars alone tonight?" Surely his brother had heard about the meteor shower, right? What bothered Cyril the most was the bitterness in his voice whenever he spoke like they were alone which basically meant that their mother was off with her lover. The situation was still something of a hassle to Cyril and even though he didn't vocalize it often the disdain was clear whenever he saw her disappearing with the man. He knew that he should be happy for her but it was an...adjustment most certainly. Either way he was determined to not worry about such matters and instead was going to enjoy the stars with or without his family members. One was supposed to watch them and make wishes which he had plenty to make after all.

Alright well this was….”Are you okay?” Selim quirked his brow and curled his lip, looking at his brother like he’d grown another horn or something. Something just wasn’t...quite right with Cyril but he couldn’t put his finger on what. “The fire dancers….OH.” Suddenly the drink made so much more sense. There was only one thing the fire dancers would have, and the fact that they’d shared it with Cyril meant they must have been pretty far into it themselves. He’d snuck out with them a time or two before, when he was supposed to be doing chores, but that was his own secret to keep. “Does it matter? You’re never really alone when I’m around.” Looping his arm around his brother’s, Selim pulled his twin towards a series of barrels outside the tents and urged him to sit. “Are you going to share it with me or did you just come around to gloat?”

"I'm fine." Replied Cyril a bit too quickly though he kept his balance as Selim looped an arm around his own. "Fair enough. Perhaps I should just start wearing my hair similar to yours and see how many people think that they're seeing double." He mused with some amusement as he followed Selim along towards the barrels. A brow raised at his brother's question and he pursed his lips as if offended that Selim would think such a thing. "What's mine is yours." Looks, family and the whole package. He held the bottle out to Selim and allowed the satchel to fall to the ground. There was no need in hiding something when everyone else was fairly preoccupied around their encampment. "Hopefully we see some stars before it's all gone." He perhaps had a few more sips on the way back from the fire dancers...just a few though.

Selim snorted, but just as quickly gave a little smirk. “We haven’t done that since we were kids. I wonder how many people we could trip up if we changed clothes for a week?” They would have to let their hair down, probably, just to hide their individual piercings. Cyril’s eyebrow ring and his own lip ring would be dead giveaways.
Once he was sure his brother was properly seated, Selim took up the drink and knocked back a swig. If he hadn’t done it so quickly he would have definitely spit it out. His entire face screwed up and he gagged, instantly regretting swallowing it. “This tastes like dog piss.” Spirits, how was he supposed to enjoy the star shower now?! “Didn’t they have anything better for you to nab?”

A chuckle left his lips at the thought of doing a switch up. It was a childish thing but definitely amusing to recall all of the past trouble they caused as children. It would have been better if they were exactly identical but because of their rare mixed parentage it was enough to throw most off since they were just described as pale boys with glowing eyes and purple hair. Of course that would sometimes mean he got into trouble for things that Selim did and then Cyril would have to drag someone to the show or his brother across town to prove that yes there were indeed two of them. "I can always pin my hair up as well." He teased lightly before shaking his head. Nah, that was just too much trouble at the moment and they had stars to see anyways tonight.
"They did." Cyril replied with a few blinks. "It was in a smaller flask and didn't quite last as long on the way back here." A fine brandy or wine? Something really rich with good flavor despite the burning sensation it left when going down his throat. At least his stomach was toasty now even though everything else tended to try and spin around him. Or was the skies moving already? Cyril tilted his head, his body precariously shifting towards the edge of the barrel as he glanced upwards. "I think....I think the stars are falling already." He mused as he studied the sky with squinted eyes.

"Did you forget about these?" Selim reached up to flick his gauges. "Dead giveaway."
Oh boy. So Cyril had already been drinking before coming to find him? And a flasks worth, at that...I'll have to put a bucket next to his cot tonight. It would save him a lot of grief in the morning. "Oh, yeah?" Selim craned his head upwards and focused. At first he thought his brother might be seeing something that no one was meant to, but then, sure enough, a few stars started to shoot across the sky.
"Woah."

Cyril pursed his lips thoughtfully as he pondered the gauges. "That's an easy remedy." He responded finally as he leaned back further and glanced towards the sky. "Yep. There it goes!" He cheered out as he tried to follow one of the shooting stars with a finger. Damn, it was really fast! Cyril blinked and tried to stare down the skies for another star before frowning. What was the point in these things again? Did they even want to make a wish? "Wishes...don't work." He muttered in protest before letting out a weary sigh. Alcohol was not fun and neither were falling stars....

Selim shifted his legs so that one was tucked underneath him atop the barrel and the other freely hung down toward the ground. He was leaned back as far as his body would allow and may have stayed that way had Cyril's words not brought up a spike of concern in him. Furrowing his brow, Selim sat up a little straighter and looked at his twin.
"What do you mean? When have you ever wished on a star and not had something come true?" He tried to play it off as a lighthearted tease, but really, this was too melancholy, even for Cyril. Was it the alcohol getting to him? Should I even be smelling this stuff?

"Have you ever wished on a star and gotten something?" Quipped back Cyril quietly as he squeezed his eyes tightly closed against the beginnings of a nasty headache. Wishes were just silly! That's why he worked so hard at everything so that he could be in control of his life...too bad it didn't work on others. A frustrated grunt left his lips as he placed a foot against one of the crates, his gaze irritable as his eyes shot open to stare down the immovable object. "I wished once before when we were kids but nothing ever came of it and mother's already moved onto someone else." He admitted quietly as he glanced back towards his brother, his gaze almost sorrowful before he gave another shrug. "Not like I would want that b*****d back anyways." The Yaeli who had fathered them was surely dead as it was. What was the point in even wondering about him? Dammit! Alcohol really wasn't making this a fun night, was it? Cyril blamed the stars more than anything else. Maybe if all three of them could share this moment he would feel less bitter but all of the recent changes just weren't settling well with the teen. Maybe he should just wish upon the stars and see if he could actually get some sort of lead about what to do with his own life...a thought that ended with a snarky huff.

"Well...no." Selim responded quietly. If he'd ever wanted something he went out and got it. Whether it was through hard work, patience or bargaining he always managed to make his own desires come true. Wishing on stars seemed pretty childish, but it didn't really hurt anything, did it?
So that's what this is about. Without taking his eyes off the stars above Selim reached over and took his twin's hand in his. "I wished for him too. A lot." Every time his mother would stand off to the side as other couples in the troupe would dance together after a successful tour, when she would go back to her tent alone... "Maybe he just never got the letters? It's a long way between Belrea and Yael."

Cyril nodded in satisfaction at hearing his twin's honest answer. "If nothing ever happens then it's a waste of time. " He commented as he shot a glare towards the night sky. He was only here out of curiosity and because his usual training areas were full of noisy people watching the damn shower tonight. Though at least he had gotten some good wine out of it....he wasn't quite certain how he felt about the other more fiery liquid in the flask but it was still something.
Cyril tensed at the sudden touch before relaxing and squeezing Selim's fingers. "You think so? They really need to fire the delivery guy then." He murmured before pondering something and finally stating his idea. "Then we should deliver the messages ourselves. We can go to Yael and find out what happened to this guy. If he's dead he's dead but if he's alive and just hiding from us then he'll be dead soon enough. " Cyril almost hissed or maybe even slurred his final words a bit before leaving against Selim and closing his eyes. He'd seen enough of the stars and sleep sounded amazing right now....

"You sound like an old man when you drink." Honestly it would be just like Cyril to be anything other than the typical youthful drunk. He couldn't help teasing his twin a little in the hopes of bringing some levity to his melancholy thoughts. Of course Selim agreed with him, but that didn't mean he had to get sappy too.
"Definitely." Taking a swig of the fire water, Selim scrunched his brows together and let out a hiss. He'd heard of the burn being 'good' and 'a way to warm up your innards' but all he could imagine was that drinking piss would have been better. The thought of going to Yael, though, was surprising. And yet..."You know what? Why not. If he's alive we can deck him and if not then at least we'll know what happened to him." It wasn't as if he'd never thought of seeking his father out. What growing child hadn't wondered about a missing parent? Feeling the weight against his shoulder made him turn and look Cyril's way, only slightly surprised to see his twin drifting off.
Ah, well, they could talk about it more tomorrow and for tonight Selim had plenty to think about.
