Another year has passed in Tendaji, meaning a new opportunity for the residents to accomplish their goals and dreams. Typically, this is a time for setting promises to oneself and others on what to do in the year ahead. There are many different superstitions on how to make a New Year's Wish: some toss their written wishes into the sea, others will burn them at a shrine, and even more will whisper them to representatives of the gods.
No matter how one goes about doing it, all will take the time to ensure that their wishes and promises have the best chance to come true in the New Year.
[ What is your character's promise for the New Year? Go about their practice of setting their goals and dreams in the way they feel is most important. Maybe they go to the shrines, or wish under a star, or honor the god(s) they follow. The goal of this World Event is to make a wish for the next year however your character chooses fit. ]

It wasn't often that Xenia went out on her own. Ever since leaving Yael she'd pretty much stuck to the hull of the ship and barely left her girlfriend's side. As much as she hated the woman at the moment she was also keenly aware of how out of place she was in the outside world. She'd managed to change her hair, decorate herself up in new clothes, but something still felt off...
Which is what brought her to the tattoo parlor. The little yaeli shifted from side to side, trying her best to work up her nerves. A few passerby's gave her a side eye but Xenia paid them little mind. This would be the best way to claim a new life for herself, right? Something permanent and flashy. Her own mother had a tattoo so it wasn't anything to be scared of, right?
So then why were her palms sweating so much?

Brexxa was out enjoying the day before she got down to helping her aunt and uncle later on with the new year festivities. A hardened honey lolli in her mouth, she walked down the street as she would any other day, the stick her candy was on hanging out for her to hold onto. As she passed by a shop she noticed a Yaeli girl kinda looking nervous about going in. The matorian told herself it was none of her business and to keep going but after she passed behind Xenia she couldn't help her curiosity. She got no more than five steps away before she paused and turned around to look at the other girl with a small tilt of her head. "You waiting for someone?" Maybe her older sibling or parent was in there? Or a friend? She wasn't sure. Brexxa just thought the girl looked like she could use something to help her nerves. Perhaps some conversation?

When Xenia turned to look at Brexxa it was a full moment after she stopped moving that her curls decided to do the same. Her glasses slipped down her pert, little nose a little bringing back shades of that mousey girl she'd left behind in Yael, but just as quickly the freckled yaeli pushed them back up with a shy little smile. "Ah, uh, no. Just nervous I guess. I'm supposed to go inside for a tattoo and I....I guess I'm a little scared."
She turned away from the matorian back towards the shop and felt herself shrink a little. "My girlfriend said she would come with me today, but she said I should be able to handle this by myself. Which, I'm sure she's right."

As she waited for the girl to answer she sucked on her candy a bit, twirling the stick so that the hardened honey spun in her mouth. Brexxa looked at the shop then back at the girl. So her girlfriend had promised to come but wasn't around and had even told her that she could do it alone. The matorian gave a displeased snort. "Your girlfriend sucks.." She wouldn't have done that to her partner. As Xenia looked back at the shop she moved over and nodded her head to the place. "Want me to go in with ya?" She had no plans until later anyways and she could offer some support to the Yaeli girl.

Xenia winced a little at the admission. "You're not the first one to say that." She wasn't wrong, but it still hurt to hear. Under better circumstances she might have left, but for now she had bigger things to worry about.
"...Really? You wouldn't care to go in with me?" Xenia had to admit it was tempting. She wanted to do this so bad she'd been dreaming about it for days, but the thought of going in alone was daunting. "It might take a while; if I go in for something I want it to be big." Why bother with getting a tattoo if it was small, right? If she was going to reinvent herself it was going to be spectacular.

Of course she noticed the wince and it made her feel a little bad but if the girl was told it more than once by other people, there must be truth to it. Brexxa kinda shrugged her shoulders with an apologetic look. "I don't mind." As the girl told her that she was going to get something big Brexxa looked her up and down for a second. "You planning on getting a whole back piece or something?" She wouldn't be able to stay that long, at least not without going and checking in with her uncle so he knew she hadn't set off on the ocean without telling anyone. "If it takes longer than expected I'll just need to check in with my uncle but then I can come right back." She had plenty of freedom to do what she wanted since she was fairly responsible.

"No! Nothing like that." Xenia waved her hands in front of her anxiously before pausing. "Well...Not yet, anyway? I don't know, it's my first one." She raised one hand to her bicep and gestured down the skinny little limb to her elbow. "I told the artist I wanted something from the top of my bicep to here, but I didn't have a clue for the design. I gave him some ideas and he said he'd have something ready for me to look at when I got here." Surely if she didn't like it she could say something about it, right? It was going to be permanently inked onto her body so she wanted to make sure it was perfect.
"...I'm not even sure what I'm doing here, honestly. This isn't like me. My sister's the exciting sibling; I'm the one who was supposed to stay home." She had always been the softer sister. The small, mousey little yaeli with the glasses almost as big as her hair and a tiny frame that was consumed by shawls and thick skirts. Now here she was traipsing about the world in a dress that clung to her hips. "But I'm doing it! Today, I'm getting it done today! So let's go." After taking a deep, bolstering breath Xenia walked straight through the door of the tattoo parlor.

Well it was good to know she wasn't planning on doing something that big just yet. When she motioned to her bicep Brexxa leaned to the side to see the area then nodded. "Reasonable." Her dad had a tattoo there. A sea creature. "Huh, she's the exciting one but you're the one standing here getting ready to get a tattoo. You sure about that?" Unless her sister already had one? She shrugged her shoulders and as Xenia walked into the shop Brexxa followed along behind her. "Okay.. you got this. If you need to squeeze my hand or something just say son." She'd seen grown men cry over getting tattoos. It was one of her uncles, but he was still a grown man.

"Trust me, I will." Xenia murmured, trying her best to keep the staff from hearing her. A heavily tatted matorian saw them enter, however, and met them by the door. He was easily the biggest man Xenia had ever seen with arms as thick as tree trunks, but his smile was soft like candy.
"Bring a friend for support?"
"Yeah, sort of."
"Good. Honestly, last time you were here I was sure you'd be too scared to come back." He laughed a little as he shuffled through some papers and brought out his design. The matorian led them to a little room off to the side with a makeshift window propped open to let in the breeze. Set up was easy enough and he did a good job of explaining everything but she was still so nervous. When Xenia laid back she felt her head go up into her chest and before he even started she was reaching out for Brexxa's hand.
"Do you have any tattoos?" She asked as a way of getting her mind off things.

Once inside she looked around at everything, being nosy since it was her first time there. She paid little attention to the guy that worked there but followed along as they were led back to a little room. Despite her being quiet up to that point she was watching Xenia to see what she would do. As the Yaeli girl reached out for her hand Brexxa moved up in a completely nonchalant way. She gave the girl her hand and with her other one she pulled the candy on a stick from her mouth with a small 'pop.' "Mm, nope. Not yet. Not even sure what I would get." She looked at her new friend with a smile. "Maybe yours will give me some ideas."

As strange as it was Xenia felt more comfort from that nonchalant grip than she had even discussing this with her girlfriend. She always had a way of making Xenia's worries seem smaller than they really were, and in the end she usually came out of it feeling silly for even fretting at all. At least now she could acknowledge that this was scary, but push through it all the same.
All from a woman she'd only just met.
"I think flowers would look lovely on you." Xenia said with a smile. Of course, in her eyes Matorian's didn't need tattoos, they were plenty colorful enough, but it would look pretty all the same. "So, I've been meaning to ask...is your hair color natural? It looks like the ocean."

"Flowers huh?" She gave that some thought. Maybe she could find a flower she liked enough to put it on herself permanately. Or do what this girl was doing and simply leave it up to the artist and give the final 'yay' or 'nay' when the design was made. "I guess that wouldn't be bad." As she was asked about her hair she moved her head and looked up as if she could really see her whole head. "Yep. All natural." With a grin Brexxa looked back at Xenia. "I'll take that as a compliment and possibly as flirting." She was mostly trying to keep the girl's mind off the tattoo with conversation so that it wouldn't scare her as much but the small tease was fun too. She put the candy back in her mouth with a cheeky smile.

The conversation was enough of a distraction until he got closer to the tender flesh around her inner elbow. Xenia couldn't help tensing then and gripping Brexxa's hand a little harder. The worst part of it all was that he was just doing the linework; everything else would either come later or another day entirely! Every once in a while she would look over at him, noting the way he was tapping at her skin with his instrument, pressing the darkened ink down into her already pigmented flesh.
"Is it?" She couldn't help flushing a little. "I'm not really experienced with flirting and I probably shouldn't because I have a girlfriend, but it's kind of fun." She couldn't help smiling a little. Surely so long as she didn't act on it it was fine, right? And besides, cute girls deserved to be called cute!

Painted Moose Sorry Xenia! XD Brexxa just trying to help! She wasn't experienced with flirting? Did her girlfriend not flirt with her? Brexxa wasn't so sure she liked this girlfriend. She didn't show up to support the Yaeli girl in getting a tattoo, which could be painful, and she apparently didn't flirt either. Currently the Matorian was single but she would still flirt with her significant other even after they were together. She noticed the tensing as the pain got to be a bit much. Brexxa took the candy out of her mouth again and leaned down with a smirk. She took that opportunity to kiss the girl to distract her better. Her intention was to make it simple, short and sweet, if the girl was receptive though it might get deeper and a little longer. "That's flirting." Brexxa would then put her lolli in Xenia's mouth to give her something else to focus on as well.
