One of the last things on Cavansite’s to do list was to let her friend. Her Cosmos page friend know that she might end up forgetting her. Of course, how she planned on doing this was kind of a mystery, but...that was all right. She’d figure it out somehow.
They had no plans to meet up. They had never made plans to meet up, and so the General spent her time just...waiting around the places that she had met up with Ein before, hoping for a miracle.
It seemed like one must be in the cards for tonight, since she felt the lingering prickle of a page nearby, and when she got close enough to see the elegant attire, a smile broke over her face. “Ah. There you are. Not to sound creepy but, I’ve been looking for you for days now! I was hoping to see you again before…”
Well. Being subtle had never been one of her strong suits, she knew this but…
She could have at least gotten herself through the pleasantries before jumping into the heavy things.
“How...how are you? I have a Christmas gift for you! I know it’s late but. I didn’t realize...I wanted to give you one so badly until after our last adventure.”

Einhornhohle had to silently wonder about her luck when she powered up and there was a startling strong signature so near. While she powered up so infrequently, it seemed that the chance of her encountering General Cavansite was improbably high. However, she really couldn't consider it a bad thing since they were on amicable terms. Aside from their first encounter, all other visits have been friendly and it seemed to reason that with a General nearby, no other agent would bother to interfere; a simple Page would be easy enough for them to handle, any backup would be unnecessary. It's not like anyone from the White Moon or Knights, like herself, would run to her rescue. Einhornhohle barely knew any of their names and the same could likely be said in reverse in that nobody knew hers either. No matter, at least it seemed she had one ally, even though they seemed to be the unlikeliest of duo. "Things have been going alright," the Cosmos Page replied. However, she had to stop herself from elaborating on the comment before she gave away much of her civilian identity. Things at the theater were finally calming down now that the Nutcracker production was at a close and they were deciding on the new theme for the next dance or play. Once she got the script, Melody would hit the ground running coming up with new costume ideas. "You know, you really didn't need to get me anything." She seemed almost embarrassed because she didn't have anything to give in return. Einhornhohle paused a moment, head canted to the side slightly as she studied Cavansite. "You seem a bit anxious, are you ok?" she asked out of genuine concern.

Cavansite shrugged and smiled softly, handing out a bag to the page after taking it from her subspace pocket. “I wanted to though. Just in case. You know?” She swallowed and hoped that Ein liked the gift. It might be a little cliche, a star shaped suncatcher with a bunch of rainbow colored crystals. “What...what do you know about ah. Purification, Ein? Have you met anyone who’s done it before?”
Not subtle. But...she hadn’t ever really been with Ein. Their first meeting had been when she was teetering on the edge too...only now. There was no teetering. This was her last loose end to tie up.
“I know that sounds so out of the blue, I’m just curious.”

Ein lifted the gift so the light from the streetlamp could filter through the colorful crystals. Her dress became a wash of rainbow and for the briefest of moments it felt like a missing piece of a puzzle was snapped into place. But then, without warning, the feeling faded. Carefully she put the gift in her subspace pocket for safekeeping before turning her full attention back to the General. "I'm sorry, The only thing I know about purification is as it relates to science," the Cosmos page admitted. "Like using a filter to purify water. But I have no idea how it relates to us."

Cavansite gave a little laugh and nodded. “No, no that’s understandable. It...Well. It’s kind of the same thing, really. Only...it helps those who are poisoned with Chaos to...become free of it. Ah...I’m going to be doing that, and I’m glad I got to see you again. I...I might forget all of this. When you switch sides, either by getting pulled into chaos, or getting out of it...you lose part of who you were. You lose memories...and I...if I forget you, please know it wasn’t because I wanted to.”
The words tumbled out in a rush and Cavansite looked away after a moment, seeming just a bit unsure of herself. “You’re...the only other friend that I have who’s part of the White Moon so...I thought you might want to know.” She swallowed and blew out a long breath.
“I would very much like to stay friends...when I’m...no longer General Cavansite...if...that is something you might be interested in too…”
Finally, she let her eyes flicker back to the Page and gave an almost hopeful smile. “If not...I get it.”

Einhornhohle looked visibly concerned when Cavansite looked up at her. Over their past few encounters, the general had tentatively been approaching the topic of purification. While they didn't delve into too much detail, it was hard to miss the far-off gaze that seemed split between torn and longing. "Of course I still want to be friends," she replied. "The thought of being forgotten is terrifying, I admit." Probably more terrifying for her since there seemed to be no telling exactly how much she won't remember, the only certainty was that memories would be taken; a steep price for possible freedom. "I just want to make sure this is something you truly want." "Honestly, I wish I knew what I could do to help you through this." The process of purification was outside her scope of knowledge, she didn't even know who could perform such an act.

Cavansite felt a warmth in her chest as Ein talked about wishing she could help her. About wanting to be friends. That...that meant the world.
“I have everything lined up already. I...we have a plan. You were my last loose end.” And now that it was tied so neatly...well...that was that.
“WIth the forgetting thing...I...want to have some memory of you...and to show...I’m...you know. Really invested I…” She drew in a breath and took a moment to compose herself before powering down in front of the page. She trusted Ein. She trusted her. It...would be...should be easy to do this in front of someone that she trusted.
...Of course it still felt wrong, and now she felt absolutely naked, a civilian in the place of where a General should be. “Um. I’m Karone...and now...I’ll at least have some memory of meeting you...so if I...forget being Cavansite...I’ll know that you were a friend.”
Reaching into her pocket, she drew out a small piece of folded paper. “I don’t have my new phone yet, but this is the number of one of the people I’ll be staying with. He’s a Cosmos Knight too...he...he’ll be able to let you know what’s going on. If you wanted to call ah...if not...I’ll see you when I see you.”

With each time they met, it became a little bit easier to talk to Cavansite; not as an agent but as an individual moving outside the constraints of the Negaverse beliefs. However, her aura was always something of a white elephant hovering over her; something unseen but with substantial weight and while she'd like to forget that they stood on opposite sides of the war, the signature radiating from the General was a constant if not nagging reminder of how quickly things could turn. But then Cavansite surprised her once more and in the place of the once proud Negaverse agent, now stood a young woman; Karone. That opressive signature was gone and the Page could feel the tension in her shoulders ease. Einhornhohle, however, remained at a loss for words as a mix of expressions and emotions splayed across her face. If this wasn't a display of trust then she must truly be without faith. But it was hard to ignore what Cavansite once said; that she had been severely punished for having thoughts of leaving. It appeared that Karone remained firm in her conviction and the Page of Cosmos felt proud of the young woman who was willing to lose so much for a chance at a better life. "I will wait for you here." Einhornhohle spoke quietly after some time. "Come back in two weeks and I will welcome you properly and bring you back to my Wonder." It was too soon for her to power down and she hoped that Karone could understand that while Ein trusted her, there were others with eyes on the horizon and ears to the ground that gave her reason to be wary.

Karone nodded, giving a slight grin. That would work. She hoped it would work. She...well.
With a little sigh she drew a piece of paper from her pocket. “This is the number of another Cosmos Knight...Qingcheng. His name is Sterling, and if...I don’t show up. If something goes wrong or if I end up forgetting everything about you...send him a text in three weeks. So a week after you and I are supposed to meet. If you’re not comfortable doing it, maybe use a burner phone? So that it can’t be traced back to you?”
She tucked a lock of hair behind her ears and blew out a breath. “...I just want to cover all of my bases, you know? BUt. I don’t know the future, and having a back up plan...helps.”
Karone began chewing on her lip, rocking back on her heels, feeling suddenly, horribly out of place. Uncomfortable.
Naked.
“I...I should go, Ein. But I look forward to seeing your wonder again. Seeing you again. I’m...so glad that I got to have you as a friend. You’ve been amazing.”
God. She hated how much that sounded like goodbye.

"Be safe," Einhornhohle tried to hide her worry behind a kind smile. It was difficult not to miss Karone's apprehension or unease with the way she kept shifting her weight from one foot to the other almost as if she were weighing her options between continuing on with an uncomfortable conversation or fleeing. There was a saying that shadows have eyes and there really was no knowing if there was anyone beyond her aura sensing range watching them as they spoke. What Cavansite was doing took a lot of courage especially knowing the consequences of defecting to the other side. All they could do at this point, really, was pray that it went well and that the memories she would be left with would be enough to build a better life. But for now, it was probably best to let her go. "This isn't goodbye, We'll meet again," the Page added reassuringly. That's just how their friendship seemed to be, wrong place wrong time, unusual circumstances, but always happening to run into each other when they least expect it.
