New Year, New Me

Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7Another year has passed in Tendaji, meaning a new opportunity for the residents to accomplish their goals and dreams. Typically, this is a time for setting promises to oneself and others on what to do in the year ahead. There are many different superstitions on how to make a New Year's Wish: some toss their written wishes into the sea, others will burn them at a shrine, and even more will whisper them to representatives of the gods. No matter how one goes about doing it, all will take the time to ensure that their wishes and promises have the best chance to come true in the New Year. [ What is your character's promise for the New Year? Go about their practice of setting their goals and dreams in the way they feel is most important. Maybe they go to the shrines, or wish under a star, or honor the god(s) they follow. The goal of this World Event is to make a wish for the next year however your character chooses fit. ]

Verose stood under the shade of the great mother tree, still small but growing in strength each and every year. Many of the Vandrea sisters were spending the day visiting the mother, making wishes and promises to their mother for the year to come. It was moments like these that Verose felt the weight of being an outsider, uncertain if she could step closer even if she had visited the tree in the past. She was half Alkidike, but sometimes her earthling half shined much more than her aishan.
Taking a breath, Verose moved into the open when the crowd thinned, keeping her head down as she moved closer to the tree's base and thought about what kind of wish she'd make this year. She was far away from Aisha, but that didn't mean she couldn't wish to her daughter instead.

As was her nature, Ylva was a quick, lithe ball of energy, even in the presence of Azehra. She'd been told more than once that she ought to calm herself before the mother tree, take half a moment to just be still and offer up her promises. And if she could manage that, then maybe she could also throw in a wish for the new year. More than a decade of life, and still, Ylva hadn't quite gotten that part down pat. She was prancing like a little jittering bug behind her parents as her mothers paid their respects. It didn't take much to bore Ylva, and this... this was boring. She'd made her promises on their approach to their mother, thought it all out - elaborate and all - before they'd even reached the base of the tree. Ylva didn't think she deserved to be punished for being efficient. So she wandered off. She'd only made it a handful of steps when she spotted a figure who was widely recognizable on the isle, half Alkidike, half earthling. The poor thing stood out like a sore thumb, and Ylva knew that not everybody approved. But Ylva was not everybody, so, seeing this person who intrigued her mightily, she bounced right on over. "Hello! Have you got a good wish for our mother this year?"

Verose was startled, mostly thanks to her lack of antennae and pointed ears. She spun to study Ylva, looking over her markings and coloring critically for a moment before placing a name with a face. She was often quiet in their classes, not keen to converse with the 'chosen ones', but didn't mind when approached first.
"Oh, hello..." She said slowly, her earthling eyes narrowing a moment before shrugging, "Yeah...I guess..." She turned to look up at the growing tree, taking a deep breath again.
"Just thinking about the future...y'know how they keep telling us 'it's time to start thinking about what you want to become'..." She mimiked one of their instructors, before laughing, "Such a big decision."

"Oh yea?" she said, stepping up next to Verose and rocking up onto the balls of her feet, bouncing a couple times as she looked up at their mother. "Have you decided anything? Well, cause, you've got... options, right?" She lifted a hand to palm the back of her neck as she peered sidelong at Verose. There were a lot of questions that Ylva had in mind that she'd been wanting to ask her, as probably the only Earthling hybrid that Ylva had really come in contact with. But maybe that would be rude. "I wished for fewer lessons," she offered in earnest.

Ylva was so much energy, something that Verose always noticed during their classes or when passing by the younger sister. She bounced around and couldn't stand still, meaning it was sometimes hard to keep up. For a quieter sister like Verose, such energy was often off-putting.
"Options..." The word floated around as an echo for a moment as Verose chewed on the syllables, before turning and narrowing her eyes at the shrewdness of the girl. It was a bit surprising.
"You mean, Earthling options?" Her voice was teasing at that, before she laughed again, "But maybe I should also wish for fewer lessons. I'm sure the great mother will answer one of us..."
