Cahira adored the explosion of bright colors that decorated the city streets today. Sulburi was completely covered in decorations for the New Years festivals and many were gathered together to spend time before the evening lanterns to explore the shops and enjoy their time with family, friends and lovers. Even Cahira was dressed in more vibrant silks for the occasion, her crimson hair tied back with jeweled pins that chimed with every step. Usually Cahira would be spending the day with her family back in Matori or with Kyril while she was apprenticing here as a glass artisan but today she found herself completely alone. I suppose I should get accustomed to this since I'm wanting to start my training as a swordswoman after all. She mused quietly to herself as she walked past a vendor, her fingers reaching out to tap against a chime before she turned yet another corner in the city. What did one do whenever they were alone at a festival? Cahira wasn't exactly certain but she did have some form of a plan in mind. She wanted to find a sword, a perfect weapon to celebrate her beginnings as a swordswoman. Cahira vaguely remembered how to get to an artisan distract and a triumphant smile crossed her features when she located a forge with its doors actually opened. Aha!

Could the doors be opened without anyone inside? I suppose there's only one way to truly find out. Peeking inside, Cahira waited a moment before calling out. "Hello? Is there anyone actually here?" Her amber gaze took in the forge, a slight flush of excitement crossing her cheeks as she fiddled with the pouch of coins tucked in the silk sash around her waist. Hopefully it would be enough to get a custom sword, her token to commemorate the beginnings of her journey in this new year.

Another year has passed in Tendaji, meaning a new opportunity for the residents to accomplish their goals and dreams. Typically, this is a time for setting promises to oneself and others on what to do in the year ahead. There are many different superstitions on how to make a New Year's Wish: some toss their written wishes into the sea, others will burn them at a shrine, and even more will whisper them to representatives of the gods.

No matter how one goes about doing it, all will take the time to ensure that their wishes and promises have the best chance to come true in the New Year.

[ What is your character's promise for the New Year? Go about their practice of setting their goals and dreams in the way they feel is most important. Maybe they go to the shrines, or wish under a star, or honor the god(s) they follow. The goal of this World Event is to make a wish for the next year however your character chooses fit. ]

He hadn't yet left, being stuck with finishing up the final touches on an order, so when the voice called out wondering if there was someone about be heard it. Dovian set his work down gently and grabbed a rag to wipe his hands on. As he came around the corner he was met with the cool breeze from having to doors open. It felt nice. Seeing as he was covered in sweat from the heat of the forge it was a nice change in temperature. His green gaze landed on Cahira and for a second he wondered if she were lost or perhaps the owners daughter. "May I assist you?" The more he looked the more he saw that the lady standing in the doorway was not the owners daughter. Her clothing was too fine and her colors were a bit different.

He looked down at his hands as he wiped soot from them, making sure that most of the grime was gone before he looked back up. "Was there something you needed, m'lady?" Dovian guessed from the way she dressed that the woman he spoke to had some social standing, peasants and street beggars didn't dress like that.

Oh perfect! Cahira beamed and walked inside without hesitation as she was greeted by the other man. At first glance she thought him to be fully Oban but when those bright green eyes met her own amber ones the girl found herself startled. "Oh." Cahira blinked and paused in front of him before blurting out. "Your eyes are green! I mean they're a very lovely shade but...surprising." Her cheeks flushed slightly as she tucked a stray curl behind her a finned ear and glanced around some more. Despite her attire the girl was not deterred by the dirt of the forge and in fact she seemed rather intrigued by it all. It was very hot inside like the forge her sister worked in but the materials were all so different! Her interest was obvious as she surveyed the room, her gaze taking in all the different pieces sitting about the forge.

The question brought her attention back to the blacksmith and she smiled towards him. "Ah, yes! I was hoping to go about ordering a weapon. Are you proficient in crafting swords?" Cahira asked as she placed a hand on her hip boldly. "Also you don't have to call me m'lady. My name is Cahira and you are?" It was best to get introductions out of the way, right? Cahira didn't know how much time she had with the artisan before he would have to leave the forge. Wouldn't he be wanting to participate in the festivities after all?

When she made the startled noise he lifted a brow at her. Did he have something on his face? It was likely. Dovian had wiped sweat from his brow earlier so maybe soot had smeared on his face? Then the lady mentioned his eye color. A deadpan look was given toward her. "Yes, they are." In appearance he mostly took after his father, though some traits of his mother's shone through. The green eyes and the pink crystals for instance. "Sorry to have surprised you."

He watched her a bit more closely when she took a look around. Dovian wanted to make sure she wasn't about to cause trouble, but he relaxed when he saw the intrigued curiosity on her face. Clearly she had an actual interest in what the forge could produce. "I am, but if you want a fancy guard and pommel you'll have to pay extra. Intricacy takes time." And that was time he could spend working on other things. When she put her hand on her hip he lifted a brow and lazily shoved the rag he'd been using to wipe his hands off into his back pocket to that it half hung out. "I'm Dovian, I'm a journeyman blacksmith here at the forge and second only to the owner." That meant she would get excellent quality out of him if she knew what she was shopping for.

Cahira's flush only deepened at the look the man gave her. "It's fine! I just....wasn't expecting it." She murmured quietly as she peeked towards him almost shyly before raising her voice again. "Obviously it's not a problem and like I said your eyes are very lovely." She gestured towards her own appearance as she spoke with a small smile. Why would she be upset to meet another Oban hybrid when she herself was one? If anything it was a nice surprise because then she could have hopes that he wouldn't treat her rudely like some of the other more traditional Obans did whenever they realized she was mixed blood. Maybe that was more a noble thing anyways? Cahira truly hadn't spent much time in Oba to know just yet since all of her previous visits often kept her at her mother's side and in the upper areas of the city. But she was ever the optimist and hopeful that things would be fine once she adjusted to life within the capitol.

"I don't mind at all to pay extra and I'm working on patience. My sibling crafts and I understand how much time and effort it takes to make an amazing piece." Cahira chirped happily as he seemed to be considering her request to place an order. "I just want you to promise that you can provide a strong yet elegant sword. Perhaps a scimitar?" She twisted carefully as if holding a blade while she spoke, her silks swishing about with the movement as she settled into a sword stance before straightening back up and turning to face him again. She had been careful to make certain to avoid knocking into anything though the action did bring her a lot closer to the journeyman blacksmith. "So do you think it's possible, Dovian?" She asked him after a moment, her gaze warm and her cheeks flushed slightly from both the heat of the forge and her own actions.

Not a lot of people were expecting his eye color, so he didn't take it personal. Dovian had lived in Oba long enough to know people were people. As she pointed out her own appearance he looked her up and down, assessing. Not for her good looks or anything like that, but for her build and just how much muscle the girl had to work with. If she wanted a sword she'd need to be able to pick it up and swing it without issues. Unless... "To a blacksmith all blades are elegant, but I can manage a scimitar." He nodded his head.

He watched her swishing about with the imaginary weapon and brought his arms up to cross in front of his chest. So he'd been right to look at her form. Those green eyes that had startled her took another look, this time taking their time on her shoulders and arms. When Cahira straightened and turned toward him again he was nodding slowly while thinking.

"Its possible. And within my abilities." Weapons of all kinds was somewhat of a specialty of his. He'd started young with making things for his siblings. "And if you do want something fancy on the handle I know a glass craftsman who is damned good." His arms uncrossed as he made his way over to a workbench and picked up a solid cannon ball. He motioned for her to come over. "Come here and hold this. I need to know how heavy the blade can be."

Cahira chuckled. "Fair enough." She grinned and nodded at the thought. "As a swordswoman I suppose I should also think the same but then again it would be harder to dance with a broadsword in comparison to a finer blade." She confessed lightly as her gaze ventured across all of the items in the shop again. Honestly anything with a blade made her heart swell with excitement. There were so many different types of blades and so many ways to fight with them all! Though Cahira would perhaps be a bit more judgmental in considering something larger, rugged and overall more threatening looking a bit less elegant....just a little bit though. She could have started the new year off with a large, threatening blade but she was happy with the idea of a scimitar especially since it seemed to be a popular blade in the desert country.

Cahira did her best to try and stand still after her performance but it was hard for her to stay completely still and she ended up with her fingers twisting the strands of silk hanging from her side while waiting on Dovian's appraisal. "So you'll be taking it on then? Awesome!" She found herself grinning before his next comment made her laugh. "Really? Though I think I should be okay because my sister is probably the best glass artisan in Oba - no offense to your fellow craftsman of course! I just trust her to do the best job possible. She should be returning to Oba from Belrea soon so I can always leave the finished blade with her when she returns." No one would expect a noble family to have a daughter working as an artisan but Kyril wasn't really fit for well...fitting into the mold. She wanted to create and so she did while still looking beautiful and creating elegant art as well, Cahira was super proud of her older sibling and would never miss a chance to brag about her art. Her expression glowing with enthusiasm, Cahira quickly darted over and held out her hands for the canon ball. Others may have been scared but Cahira was not as delicate as other noble daughters, instead her muscles were tense and ready as she waited on the weight to drop.

He shook his head at her but seemed to have a small smile in place. "Just because you can't use it doesn't mean it's any less elegant. Just means its not meant for you." Dovian wouldn't press the matter farther than that. The girl obviously had her preferences.

He gave a nod of his head to answer her question then gently dropped the cannon ball into her awaiting hands. He wanted to see how far her arms fell. If they went too far down then he would need to make the blade weigh less than it. To her comment about her sister he smirked. "Unless your sister is Miss Kyril then I highly doubt it." Dovian had worked with the lady before and the product had been perfect as a gift for his twin sister. "That lady has amazing talent and is good to work with." Kyril had been plenty helpful and patient with him in figuring things out. Perhaps he'd have to see about doing another collaboration with her on a piece. He had a younger sister that could use a nice pair of daggers.

"I'd show you her work if I could but the piece I had her help on is a favorite of my sisters." Which meant Dovian didn't have it in the shop.

Cahira pursed her lips towards him in protest before letting out a playful sigh. "Fair enough, I suppose." That would be why the phrase to each their own existed after all. The thought made her smile with amusement before his own smirk had her blinking in surprise. So he thought so highly of this other artisan, hmm? Cahira opened her mouth to start protesting before actually recognizing her own sister's name. "Oh." She blinked at him in surprise before letting out a laugh. It seemed her sister really was making an impression on people around here! How wonderful! To think that she had almost gotten into an argument trying to defend her sister against herself! Cahira couldn't help but to feel delighted at the revelation. "It's okay." She replied finally once she managed to get her laughter under control. "I think I've got enough examples of her work at home considering that Kyril is indeed my older sister. She's so dedicated to working that I rarely get to see her anymore so it's good to hear that she's already getting the respect of other artisans and the like."

When the girl stated that Kyril actually was her sister he lifted both brows with some amazement. What were the odds of that happening? "Well in that case.." He motioned to the forge around them before he smiled back at the girl with a tip of his head toward her. "Anything you want me to make I will do free of charge." He respected Kyril's work enough to make something for her little sister.

"My sister still has the gauntlets that your sister helped me make, and plenty of people get to see and feel just how good the work is." With Shura being a fighter he had no doubt several people had first hand knowledge of how good the collaboration piece was. Dovian gave a half smile to the thought.

Cahira opened her mouth in surprise at the sudden offer. "Bu-but!" She flushed lightly before shaking her head. "That's not completely fair, ya know." She held up a finger as if to chastise him. "I shouldn't piggyback off of my sister's work like that so I'll still pay you." As tempting as the offer was it wouldn't be right to use Kyril's name to get something for herself! The hybrid pursed her lips stubbornly as she nodded her head at her decision. Obviously she wouldn't complain if her piece got a bit more attention maybe because of the connection but she wasn't one to ask for a free ride. Her mother's heritage had spoiled them enough as children and Cahira was trying to make it on her own now that she had left home.

Still, after a moment's thought she couldn't help grinning teasingly towards the blacksmith. "Unless you're trying to get on my good side so that I can give my sister a supportive nudge whenever I mention your name?" Cahira grinned playfully towards Dovian. "You don't have to lie since I know that my sister is really gorgeous after all." She admitted before crossing her arms. "Though I'm super protective of her so I can't be bribed that easily!" Honestly it could just be another craftsman supporting someone he respected but Cahira couldn't resist the temptation to tease him a bit.

"It wouldn't be like that. Your sister helped make something for mine, so I can make something for hers in return." Dovian didn't see an issue with that, however if the girl insisted on paying he wasn't going to argue with her. The man certainly didn't want her to feel offended because of it.

When Cahira started to mention supportive nudges and her sister's looks he blinked with a confused expression. "Well, I suppose having support is nice. I'm sure every craftsman appreciates it." As to the other bit.. he had to think for a moment. Dovian looked to the side, deep in thought, before he nodded slowly. "Gorgeous could be used to describe her. I think talented fits better." A single shoulder was raised and he looked back at the girl. "Did you have a deadline for the sword by the way?" If she was in a hurry then he could rearrange some of his projects to have it done first. If not then he could add it to the back of the line.

"Fair enough." Cahira gave an appreciative nod. She would still pay him something at least but it was nice that he was kind enough to return a favor like that. Though something about her sister being the reason gave her a bit of a pause. Maybe it was just a pride thing but she would rather get something based on her own merit rather than Kyril's work.

Dovian only gave her more reason to pause before she let out a soft sigh. "Oh my. Maybe you two are a perfect pair. She found herself teasing lightly. "Most guys would be wanting support because they want to try and date her but you know I suppose working together as artisans is something too." She tapped her fingers thoughtfully against her arm whenever he asked about the deadline before finally shaking her head. "Preferably within the year? There isn't a huge rush since I'll be staying in the city for a while to train and anyways today is the new years festival. Aren't you going to enjoy it?"

Perfect pair? Dovian gave that some thought. The gauntlets had turned out very nice. Their work did compliment one another. Of course he was better at smithing now than what he was then. When he caught the girl's other words about guys wanting the support so they could date Kyril he opened his mouth to form a silent 'Oh.' "I don't date." He supplied simply. He had more than one reason for that too.

Dovian then turned his attention to the dead line she gave. "That is easy enough. If you want to leave an address here I can send word for when it's done." He motioned toward the desk by the wall where a stack of paper waited with a pen and ink. "We can get all the details down too. Any designs and the like."

Dovian leaned his head to the side a bit and looked outside before he looked back at Cahira with a smile. "No one to enjoy it with so might as well work."

"You two are definitely alike." Cahira shook her head at his answer before giving a shrug. It wasn't as if she were interested in dating either considering how much she focused on her training. Considering all of her sister's stories about unwanted suiters Cahira was thankful that she didn't have to worry about anything like that so far. Regardless that wasn't her concern today and so Cahira moved towards the paper and quickly wrote down the address along with a brief idea of what she liked. "Blacksmith's choice." She teased lightly as she left most of the design vague save for something elegant that a dancer could both use for entertainment and battle.

Her amusement turned into surprise as Dovian admitted to not going to the festival. "But why?" She protested as she placed a hand against her hip. "Well you have someone to enjoy it with now!" Cahira grinned towards him. "If anything before you protest I can argue that it's a good way to study how I move and act so that you can get a better idea for the weapon. What do you think? Care to show me around the city and celebrate the new year together?" Honestly Kyril wasn't around and Cahira had never spent the night alone like this before so it would be nice to have someone else around doing the festivities.
