There are many superstitions and beliefs in Tendaji, often originating from the culture and gods of each individual region. Wherever one goes, they might find a new routine or practice based on the region they are in. However, there seems to be one thing that all Tendaji residents believe in - the power and beauty of a meteor shower.

The rare celestial event is seen as a blessing, and this one just so happens to have appeared right when the New Year began. Oh what luck and what a great omen - this must be a sign of good fortune for the year to come.

[ How does your character react to the meteor shower that is lighting up the sky? How do they see this omen impacting their life and year to come? Explore the thoughts and experience either alone or with a friend. ]

At first Hargitt hadn't noticed the first shooting stars. He'd been wrapping up work for the day as the sun started to set, so it all slipped away from him. Not for the first time in his life he was in the Western most part of Sauti, closest to Tale and without any real coin to his name Hargitt had been camping. In all honesty he should have been settled before nightfall, but the hunt had been long that day and with little to show for it he was left wandering the village at just the right time.

It was the children that first got him to look up. A few ran past him, excitedly pointing upwards and going on about 'flying spirits'. Spirits? Scrunching his brows, the burly ranger looked up...and saw quite the show.

Rajani was quite the grumpy shifter. With her hammer over one shoulder as she walked she seemed to glare at everyone that got in her way. She'd taken a job to escort someone to their destination. To her understanding it was supposed to have been within the Tale borders but she had somehow been talked into going clear to Sauti of all places! At least it wasn't Oba.

When she took notice of the children pointing up she let her eyes follow. Instantly she noticed the shooting stars. They were pretty and definitely worth gazing at. Unfortunately she hadn't stopped walking, though she had slowed quite a bit. Rajani ended up walking right into the chest of someone. Since she wasn't going all that fast the impact wasn't hard enough to knock either of them down and with her looking up all she had to do was move her eyes to see the face of a man. Raja blinked once, then twice, before she leaned back. "Was distracted, sorry." Inwardly she was lecturing herself about having her head in the clouds while walking since this was usually what happened.

In all honesty Hargitt hadn't been paying attention to anything, but the stars. If he had he may have noticed the shifter wandering aimlessly closer before it was too late. When she walked into him he was startled enough to make a low sort of grunt, eyes widened just the slightest before turning his attention towards the...shifter? Little far from the jungle, isn't it? It wasn't as if she were the first he'd seen, but they were rare enough to catch his attention.

Especially since she was armed.

"Watch yourself." He meant it passively, but it came out on a gruff, slightly irritated rumble. In his mind it was a chiding tone reserved for his siblings, but coupled with his near permanent scowl it could have easily been taken another way.

She was already grumpy to start out, sprinkle on embassassment from running into someone and top it off with their gruff attitude and her mood became almost volatile. Rajani closed her eyes and took a deep breath in. She held it for a second before letting it out and opening her eyes again. As she did she put on her most charming smile, which was actually really nice considering her dislike of people. "Excuse me.." From her sugar coated tone one might easily think she was being sincere but in truth she was hiding her intent.

The hammer on her shoulder came up and was swung at the man not even a second after the words left her mouth. If he stayed where he was then she was going to clip him in the knee with it. Raja had put enough force behind the swing to get her point across but not seriously injure. A bruise and a limp for a day or two would be all the man got if he was foolish enough to stand there. Even as the hammer moved her smile stayed in place with her eyes watching him.

Hargitt wasn't sure what to expect from her. She seemed calm enough, so he was ready just to walk away and let it drop. The shift in breathing caused him to furrow his brow, however, and then came that smile. Maybe he'd just caught her in a bad mood and she was apologizing? Shrugging, Hargitt started to turn away-

-only to see the hammer coming for him a fraction too late. Gritting his teeth, he braced for impact since he was far too slow to dodge it. The mammu of a man growled under the force of it, irritated now that pain shot through his knee up to his hip, but he never faltered. If anything his light blue gaze sharpened as he gave all his attention to the shifter in front of him.

Instead of shying away, Hargitt placed his hand on the hammer's head and used the momentum to bring himself closer to her. Without any thought at all he slammed his forehead against hers.

Rajani was still smiling when her hammer hit the man but once he put his hand on it she looked at him with suspicion. It wasn't enough to safe her from the headbutt. That would land, but it was lessened as she had started to move back some. Still hurt like crazy though.

"Ouch.." Her free hand came up to touch the spot tenderly. "Deserved that.." Raja wasn't going to argue with that one. One eye closed from the pain she looked at the man again. "We even? Or you wanna keep going?" Why not start the year off with a fight? Under the falling stars? If she won then it'd be a hell of a thing.

Hargitt raised his hand to brush back locks of thick, blonde hair out of his face with a mild grunt. He wouldn't be surprised if he nursed a headache later in the night, but instinct was a hard thing to fight. 'Mild' mannered or not, when he was struck it wasn't in him to back down. Between his own move and her hammer he was going to need a nice, stiff drink later.

At least she's not pushing it. "Even." The windling answered brusquely. Standing fully hurt at the moment so he crouched a bit to massage the side of his knee. A cold cloth and it would all go away, but that hammer packed one hell of a swing. "You some kind of bandit?" Why else would a shifter be in some back water Sauti village, swinging a weapon around? Another set of squeals turned his attention to a grouping of children who were watching the shooting stars above them. Hell of a sight.

His grunt gave her some satisfaction at least that she wasn't the only one that headbutt had hurt. Rajani nodded at his statement of them being even and took a step back so that her hammer could go back up to laying over her shoulder. Her free hand still touched her head but the squealing kids made her look as well. Attention given to the sky once more she couldn't help but smile. It was a breath taking event.

"No, I just finished serving as a guard." Her best friend, wherever he was, would look down on her if she ever were to become a bandit or do bad things. "I need to get supplies to make the journey home." As she spoke her eyes seemed glued to the celestial event taking place and for once she was smiling genuinely. "That is a gorgeous thing to see." Raja spoke lowly and without thinking.

"Hot tempered for a guard." Hargitt commented dryly with a sharp side eye. If she went around swinging that hammer at anyone who crossed her path then she was just as much of a liability as she was an asset. Still, it wasn't his place to comment on another's work and evidently she was being paid well enough if she was this far from home.

Taking in the sky above him put things into perspective. It was hard to stay irritated when the world around him seemed pretty intent on flashing it's own natural sort of art. "It's the souls of the dead, being released from purgatory." It was just a stupid thing his mother had told them one night, but the thought had always stuck with him. "A sign for a new start."

Hot tempered? That got her to give him a side eye two, ending up with them looking at one another that way for a moment. "I don't like people, even less when they talk down to me." Still, her temper never came into play when someone took into consideration her skill with a hammer and the results of her past assignments. Admittedly, being a guard was not one she did often.

Her eyes went back to the sky to watch and as the man beside her spoke once more she arched a brow. "Souls of the dead huh?" Is that what the wind people thought? How odd. "It's the tears of the moon, shedding the troubles of the past and making room for the future." At least, that is what she remembered from her time with her estranged parents.

"Grow a few inches and you'll never be talked down to again." He responded cooly. If he was expected to apologize Hargitt was going to do no such thing. Nothing he'd done or said had earned him a hammer to the knee. Well, nothing he'd done prior to headbutting her had earned such a treatment. That in itself was worth a thwacking.

"Tears of the moon?" He quirked a brow and resisted the urge to roll his eyes. Anyone who was anyone knew that the shifter's believed the moon was some kind of God, but even this seemed to be a stretch to him. Is it anymore of one than the souls of the dead? Point taken.

"Could be both; whose to say what the Gods have in mind." A fresh start would do him far more good than released souls, but Hargitt wasn't of a mind to voice that opinion so openly. Not when there was a widow not a few week away from them chanting a prayer for her lost wife. Seeing her reminded him of what he felt compelled to do and for a moment, the windling closed his eyes and murmured, "Watch over my brothers, may their arrows never fail, and a prayer for my sister, wherever she may be."

This man lived to irritate. Rajani couldn't help the twitch and smirk she gave before her tongue touched the tip of her canine. "Or I can knock people down a few inches and solve the same problem." Mainly him if he kept it up. The grip on her hammer tightened a bit and she truly thought about taking his legs out altogether to out him on his rear end.

The urge was resisted, however, when he stated that the stars moving across the sky could be both. That was a valid point. When she took note of those around them doing prayers and then heard the big man himself give one she gave a small scoff of sorts as she smiled. Her grey eyes went up again to watch what was happening. "Lousy brother if you don't even know where your sister is." Even her biological brother knew where she was and Rajani hated him with just about everything she had.

She may look a shifter, but she's got enough fire to be an Oban. Hargitt simply rolled his eyes and looked away, completely dismissing her. If she wanted to keep it up then fine; he had no qualms about proving how rough a ranger could be.

"Yeah, guess I am." Hargitt responded smoothly and not without a slight of regret. There was a lot he hadn't been around for on his adventures with his ex-fiancée. He tried, but in many, many ways he'd failed and that was only one small stone on the weight that held down his heart. With his peace said, however, Hargitt turned away from the shifter and started walking back towards his camp.

"Well at least you admit it.." Rajani shrugged. If he was at least willing to admit that he was lousy there then he clearly had come to terms with his inferiority.

As he turned to walk away she let her eyes leave the sky so that she could look at him. Her gaze shifted to his knee, the one she'd struck, then back up to the back of his head. "Elevate that knee. If it bruises then I have something you can put on it." Sure, she'd meant to hit him but her intent had never been to seriously harm him. Rajani still felt bad when she actually hurt someone. "I'll be around for another day or two if you need it." With that said she went back to watching the sky. The shifter had time to spare before she was meant to be at the meeting place for her payment.
