Quote: Prompt 11 (Snowball Mini-Game Tie In): What would winter be without snowball fights? Maybe you were just out walking, maybe you were looking for trouble, maybe it was all your idea--but a snowball fight has started, and you're in the middle of it. Are you an innocent bystander who now has to flee? Do you decide to join in and participate? Or, were you the one lying in wait, preparing to attack someone? Maybe it was random, maybe the target was selected--either way, snow is flying and you need to react, fast. Jet and Aquamarine were out on patrol. Or at least it was supposed to be patrol. It was snowing and the city was already covered in white, and all that could really be heard besides the occasional car was the soft falling of snow.
For a while they were just walking, not bothering to talk, and wound up in a park while they waited for any White Moon auras to appear. Although Aquamarine didn’t talk about it much, Jet suspected that he was having nightmares recently. Maybe his thoughts kept wandering back to whatever happened to him in that foggy village?
Whatever the case was, Jet didn’t know how to help him other than try to show that he was there if Aquamarine ever wanted to talk.
Aquamarine never wanted to talk.
Jet paused as they walked, glancing down at a bench covered in fluffy white snow. Carefully, he scooped up a handful, packed it into a ball, and then hurled it at the back of Aquamarine’s head.

Wow.
Rude.
Just because Aquamarine didn’t want to talk didn’t mean he preferred to be pelted with snow. Jet could just let him stew in silence, or go home and make him cookies, or play the piano for him while Lovely draped himself over the couch, consumed by angst. Yes, he was having nightmares — apparently, and vivid ones at that — but it wasn’t as if nightmares were that big of a deal. Jet had nightmares. Aquamarine didn’t go around throwing snowballs at the back of his head to help him get over them.
A low, drawn out groan of rage tore out of Aquamarine’s throat.
“a*****e,” he swore. “What the ******** was that for?”
He glared darkly and scooped some snow into his hand, aiming his sloppy snowball into Jet’s face in retaliation.

Okay, maybe he should have considered Aquamarine’s obvious temper when he decided to throw snow at him. But if Aquamarine was going to let his foul mood fester, then Jet could at least provoke him without the threat of being stuck in close quarters with him.
Jet watched the messy snowball scooped up and thrown at him. And then watched it land on the ground from a few feet away after teleporting.
He quickly scooped up another handful of snow, and watched Aquamarine’s rage physically build as he packed down the snow into a neat ball, and then teleported again so he could toss it at the back of Aquamarine’s head.

Aquamarine let out another shriek of rage when a second snowball made contact with the back of his head.
“What the ******** is wrong with you?!”
He scooped up more snow, taking the time to pack it appropriately now that it was obvious Jet’s attack wasn’t going to be a one-time thing. Aquamarine had no idea what the idiot was playing it, but he also wasn’t about to let him get away with it. Aquamarine should be allowed to brood in peace!
Since teleportation apparently wasn’t against the rules of this impromptu snowball fight, Aquamarine teleported away, reappearing on Jet’s left to make another attempt at a snowball to the face.

Jet figured if Aquamarine was absolutely done with fooling around like this, he could easily teleport away and not bother with throwing snowballs back at him. Or he could brandish his rapier at his throat. Either would get the point across, one more literally than the other.
When Aquamarine teleported, Jet was prepared for him to reappear behind him, so when he turned around and Aquamarine wasn’t there, but next to him, he let out a yelp as snow hit him in the face and got down his jacket.
But instead of getting angry like Aquamarine, Jet laughed and bent down to scoop up some more snow to throw in Aquamarine’s direction, making sure to teleport just out of range every so often in the hopes of not getting hit with another snowball.
No, he wasn’t amused by Aquamarine’s obvious ill temper, but because he could still play along for the most part. Until Aquamarine really got pissed off, but Jet would deal with that when and if it got there.

Aquamarine got pelted with snow again, and again, and again. He was too annoyed to think straight and thus could not avoid every hit, even with teleportation aiding him. Aquamarine ducked behind trees, tossed snowballs from every direction, and kicked snow into Jet’s face when he got the chance, but nothing seemed to give him the upper hand.
Finally, when Jet appeared to be tiring enough that his aim wasn’t quite as good as before, Aquamarine teleported close enough behind him that he could attach himself to Jet’s back before Jet had the chance to turn around. Legs around Jet’s waist, and arms around Jet’s neck, Lovely used this new position to shove cold snow directly into Jet’s face, smushing it around for better coverage.
“You think you’re funny?” Aquamarine asked, seething with anger that was half amusement at this point.
Was he distracted from his brooding? Yes.
Did he intend to win the fight? Also yes.

Jet was in the process of trying to pack together a new snowball when he suddenly found himself latched onto and with a face full of snow. He let out a muffled gasp and, unable to keep his balance with the sudden weight on his back, he stumbled backwards landing on his butt in the snow, taking the majority of the impact.
And then he laughed. Harder than before when he’d been holding back his amusement in favor of not letting it seem as though he was making fun of Aquamarine’s frustration, because he wasn’t. He used one hand to wipe the snow from his face, and took the snowball in the other to toss over his shoulder.
“Maybe,” he couldn’t help but giggle. When was the last time they’d had a chance to just fool around and have fun? Everything was so serious all the time that this was probably the first time Jet had really laughed in years.
Since he was covered in snow and his pants were getting soaked, he thought it was only fair for him to lean back so Aquamarine found himself with his back covered in the snow behind them. Of course, that was also so he could make an attempt at scampering away as soon as Aquamarine let him go.

Aquamarine let out an “oof” as his back hit the ground, then sputtered from a combination of his own hair and Ilian’s curls falling into his face.
“Son of a b***h,” he muttered. “You’re heavy.”
But Aquamarine didn’t let go. He kept his arms and legs cinched around Jet, unwilling to let Jet escape that easily, even if it meant snow soon soaked through his cape and began making its way through his jacket and the dress shirt beneath it. He grabbed more snow while he was at it, shoving as much as he could down Jet’s collar.
Even as he did so, Aquamarine complained, “My hands are freezing!”
His uniform offered decent enough protection against the winter weather, except that he lacked gloves. Sometimes Aquamarine remembered to bring a pair from home when they went on patrols. Tonight was not one of those times.
“I know what you’re doing,” he said, pausing for a moment to give Jet the chance to offer his surrender. “Consider me distracted. Maybe next time try something a little less cold.”
Despite the discomfort, it was actually kind of nice hearing Jet laugh. Aquamarine couldn’t say it was a familiar sound to him. In fact, he didn’t think he’d ever heard it before, at least not free and open like this.

Jet laughed again, and tried cringing away from the snow filling his collar, but couldn’t quite escape with Aquamarine keeping him in place. So instead Jet flailed his arms out to the side, scooping up as much snow as he could in his hands and tossing it over his head.
“Okay okay, you win,” he said as he snickered in amusement, although he didn’t stop from tossing snow over his shoulder at least once more. He was concerned about Aquamarine catching cold from being in the snow for too long, though. If he was considered a b***h now, being sick meant he was even worse.
“I’m done, I promise,” Jet finally said, holding up his hands to show that they were empty, even if his hair and uniform was covered.
Aquamarine was usually in a better mood when he won, too, even if Jet could probably keep going with the snowballs for a while longer. He really had just wanted Aquamarine distracted, even if he wouldn’t talk to him about what was going on.

Aquamarine sputtered at the snow in his face, though Jet wasn’t as successful at aiming correctly as he would have been from a better angle. Most of the snow ended up on the ground over Aquamarine’s shoulder.
“You’re an idiot,” he continued to complain as he always did, but the tone of his voice was almost fond — or as fond as Aquamarine would ever allow his voice to sound, which was to say that it lacked its usual hostility.
Slowly, concerned that Jet might attack again as soon as he was given the opportunity, Aquamarine loosened his hold, letting his legs fall away from Jet’s waist, but keeping his arms around Jet’s neck in a loose circle in case he needed to restrain him again. Aquamarine’s cheeks and nose were pink from the cold, his hair disheveled from running around, and his uniform almost soaked through. He shivered once, then suppressed the reaction.
He forced a frown because it was a familiar expression for his face to be in, but the sound of Jet’s laughter made him feel a little… queasy, almost. Kind of nervous, maybe. Like his insides were all out of sorts — stomach twisting and heart pounding out a weird rhythm.
It must be exertion. It couldn’t possibly be anything else. Definitely nothing like feelings.
Gross.

As promised, Jet didn't attack Aquamarine with more snow as he was released. Instead, he twisted himself around, pushing his cape out of the way so he could grin down at his snow soaked partner.
"Have you had time to… cool off?" he snickered, clearly amused by his own horrible jokes as he supported himself with hands on either side of Aquamarine. He wasn't much for joking to begin with, but then again he didn't usually allow himself to fool around like this. As though they were just kids having fun.
They were still children, in many ways. They may be now in their early twenties, but still young, and forced to mature faster than was really fair.
His own face was colored pink from the cold and exertion from running around, but his eyes shined to match his bright smile.
After all of the s**t they'd been though, Ilian could say he was most happy when he was with Lovely. He was comfortable and happy with Jericho too, but even if he was a total b***h to everyone else, Lovely still did things in his own way that was purposefully for Ilian's benefit.

Aquamarine snorted at the joke but gave Jet a flat look like he was unimpressed, grabbing another handful of snow to shove directly into Jet’s face. It was more playful this time than ritaliatory.
“I’m going to die from the cold,” he complained dramatically.
But instead of pushing Jet off and climbing out of the snow, Aquamarine tugged Jet down to kiss him.
He ignored all the weird sensations his insides were going through, focusing on Jet’s cold, chapped lips and the curls that tickled his face. His back felt progressively colder and more damp by the second, but Jet’s body, despite the equally damp patches on his uniform, was a warm weight above him.
Aquamarine let the kissing go on for several moments, both because he enjoyed it and because it was a suitable distraction for Jet. Slowly, carefully, so Jet wouldn’t notice, Aquamarine scooped more snow into one hand. He let his other hand drift over Jet’s back in random patterns until he reached the end of his jacket. The cape was already displaced, hanging off to the side, allowing an unobstructed path to the rest of Jet’s uniform. Quickly now, before Jet could realize what he was doing, the hand full of snow crept beneath Jet’s jacket and shoved the frigid snow down his pants.
Ripping away from the kiss as he did so, Aquamarine let out a laugh of his own.

Jet made a distressed noise as snow was shoved into his face, but soon laughed around it. He’d been the one to initiate the snowball fight, so he supposed it was only fair to have snow shoved at him. Although was it fair when he’d already relented?
He didn’t really have time to voice his mock concern about the fairness of their playful fighting because Aquamarine had pulled him closer to kiss him.
Well, this was nice. Jet smiled into the kiss, although he was aware that Aquamarine was getting soaked with the melting snow. His own knees were freezing, as were his hands that were gloveless like Aquamarine. Still, he thought it was nice that it was Aquamarine who initiated the kiss rather than Jet. While he knew how Aquamarine felt about him, he didn’t usually make the first move.
Ah, but as Jet soon learned, there was some ulterior motive.
He jerked back and let out a shriek as snow was shoved down the back of his pants, which was absolutely both not cool and hilarious. He laughed even as he shivered, and leaned back down to grab one more kiss…
And two armfuls of snow from either side of Aquamarine’s head to drag over and temporarily bury him.
