Celestial Omens
Solo or RP Format Counts as 5 RP growth Points Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7
There are many superstitions and beliefs in Tendaji, often originating from the culture and gods of each individual region. Wherever one goes, they might find a new routine or practice based on the region they are in. However, there seems to be one thing that all Tendaji residents believe in - the power and beauty of a meteor shower.
The rare celestial event is seen as a blessing, and this one just so happens to have appeared right when the New Year began. Oh what luck and what a great omen - this must be a sign of good fortune for the year to come.
[ How does your character react to the meteor shower that is lighting up the sky? How do they see this omen impacting their life and year to come? Explore the thoughts and experience either alone or with a friend. ]

[ 1 / 7 ] Nayyara rushed through the woods, stumbling over herself as she made way to her aunt's hut. She hoped she'd make it in time, with the sun dipping low in the sky. She heard rumors that the flashes of stars that filled the sky the last few days would pick up in number, a special omen of good fortune. There was only one person she wished to spend time looking at them with, and that was her spiritual aunt Pyrrha.
As she finally pushed through the brush, she leaned over and rested her hands on her knees to catch her breath. She'd need to train more, she felt so out of shape and soon enough she'd be a warrior leading her sisters. For now, she simply wanted to be a little girl looking to spend time with her Aunt.
"Aunty Rrha, are you here?

Pyrrha was, in a word, ecstatic.
Over the past few days she had been slowing building up her collection of spiritual 'artifacts' to ensure this night was something to remember. She'd made a variety of protection jars filled with various herbs, bones, and muck to give to her family after using the stars to strengthen them. Every alter to the goddesses had been cleansed, she'd talked non-stop to her daughters and she was sure Kanika must be sick of her at this point but still...It was just so exciting!
So of course, even hours before the sun had set, Pyrrha was outside. She'd decorated the exterior of their home with all sorts of mystical items, every stitch of which meant something or another. Instead of staying there, however, she'd sought out the most open spot in the area and was pleasantly awaiting the show.
Nayyara's arrival may have been a surprise, but not an unwelcomed one. While she may have had daughters of her own now Pyrrha still adored her niece and visibly glowed whenever she came rushing through. "Are you alright, Nayyara? You sound exhausted."

[ 2 / 7 ] Nayyara laughed a bit once her breathing was back to normal, before letting out a gasp at the sight of the decorations. She looked around with wide eyes for a long moment, taking it all in, before turning and smiling at her aunt. She would miss these moments, but for now she would take advantage of them and not worry about goodbyes.
"Oh yes, I just wanted to make sure I got here before everything started. Do you need any help?" She finished curiously, looking around at the jars and artifacts.

"Of course!" Pyrrha stood with a beaming smile and moved over to a vase filled with a variety of dried seaweed, picked flowers and fish bones. Despite the generally unappealing sight the vase itself smelled sweet and fresh, no doubt thanks to the flowers. They were a fat little breed with big, full blooms and a distinct scent that lasted days after being picked. Ever since discovering them Pyrrha had taken to decorating her home with them.
She hoisted the vase onto her hip for a bit before walking it over and handing it off to Nayyara. "Sprinkle these in a circle around the house that way we can keep the good energy here. With any luck the spirits will talk to us tonight and we can be more connected that ever with our cousins!"

[ 3 / 7 ] She was eager to help her aunt, who always had the most interesting tasks that were so different from the other sisters. Moving close, she looked at the vase and made sure she had a good hold on it before looking in. The bones and seaweed were interesting, but the flowers were nice and the scent was appealing.
"Got it!" She said with a chirp, before trying to judge how big of a circle she needed. Biting her lip in concentration, she took a few steps back and found the best path before sprinkling the contents slowly while she walked.
If she ended up not using it all, she could either give it back or do another lap, right?

While Nayyara set about her task Pyrrha set in on phase two. Since the house was now properly protected and welcoming to positive energies they needed to ready themselves as well. She'd already made the appropriate garb for herself, but now she need a little something for her niece too.
She'd made a crown for herself out of river grass and flowers that grew like weeds in the area closest to home. The necklace she'd been prepared to wear was set aside, ready for her niece to take and it matched the crown. Flowers for rebirth and a bright year. River grass for steady rains and a little paint for connection.
"What color do you prefer, Nayyara? I've got blue, green or purple." Even if she couldn't see the girl she knew that the teen would be close enough to hear her. Pyrrha had walked over to her supplies and picked up a little jar of fresh paint before dipping her finger in it. Normally markings were better left to Kanika's side of the family, but for tonight Pyrrha wanted to try.
Still, the patterns she swirled on her skin in blue were far from creative; they were simple tracings along the lines of her already existent markings. "When you're done put on this necklace and make yourself as bright as you can. We want the spirits to know we're friendly."

[ 4 / 7 ] As she shuffled along the makeshift path, Nayyara continued to look over her shoulder to ensure things were even and consistent. She didn't normally focus so much on perfection, but in this case she wanted to make sure everything went smoothly for this special task.
She was startled out of her concentration by the question her aunt asked, and realized that her circle was near complete.
"Oh...purple, I think...or blue." As she walked closer with the jar, she looked with excited eyes at Pyrrha painting over her skin. She grabbed the necklace and placed it on before moving closer to the paint. She wasn't used to marking her skin, but maybe she could pull it off enough to impress the spirits.
"Bright...got it!" She began to paint over her skin the best she could, mimicking Pyrrha but also doing her own thing.
"So this is really a special occasion, right?"

When Pyrrha was finished she was as bright as any of the clothing the locals wore and just as chipper. "It is. For a while after coming here I wondered if my prayers were being heard at all, but then your cousins bloomed and I knew they were. So, tonight, I want to pay my respects."
Tonight not only would the three goddesses hear them, but so would the souls of every Aishan. Somehow, someway, they would be connected under the stars.
And then it started.
At first Pyrrha didn't notice any changes in the sky, but then, one by one, little stars started to shoot across the night. "Oh, oh, Nayyara! Look!"

Nayyara was silent as her aunt spoke, rubbing the paint on her skin thoughtfully. She never really understood the feeling they had, coming to a land without the mother tree already bloomed. As far as she knew, her great mother was always here, just as much as the other three she hoped to eventually see with her own eyes someday.
The silence continued and right when Nayyara though to speak up, Pyrrha pointed up and she followed the direction to look toward the sky.
"They are falling, just as mother said they would! Like raindrops!" Her voice was hushed and in awe, and in that moment she felt she could relate a little mother to Pyrrha's unique point of view. This had to be the work of a goddess, there was no other way.

Pyrrha gave a little chuckle and reached for her niece's hand. "Yes, just like raindrops." A fresh rain for a new year! Something kind to nourish the plants and to give life to the flowers around them. "I love the way you see the world, Nayyara. It's so pure."
For every star she saw darting across the sky Pyrrha imagined a spirit dancing across the world. To be able to see it all yet also to be so far away...what a feeling that must be. "Elzira!" Pyrrha called out as loud and clear as she could. "Please grant my niece and her mother safe passage to your land! I hope you know that we never abandoned you! We simply wished to spread your love!"

Nayyara took a moment to flash a smile toward her aunt before quickly looking back up at the shooting stars. It wasn't continuous, so she had to keep a good eye out for any flashes and hope they appeared in her immediate line of vision. She felt dizzy trying to catch them all, and her cheeks hurt from the smile she held.
She was startled before turning again when Pyrrha shouted out, before realizing it was a prayer shouted out to the heavens.
Setting her feet, she looked up and decided to shout out herself.
"Esena!" She echoed for her own mother goddess, "Please continue to look after and protect my aunts and cousins. Help them grow so I can return to see strong warriors making our tribe proud!"
She didn't expect to be gone too long, but her mother warned her the travel would take a few years at most. She hoped she wouldn't miss things too much, but she turned to Pyrrha anyway, "I'm going to miss you...you could come with us if you wanted...to see Elzira?"

The shouting was enough to startle Pyrrha, but not so much as to deter her smile. One day when her own daughters were old enough to appreciate this she would share moments like these with them, but this night, with Nayyara, was a blessing in itself. She couldn't have been prouder to share it with her.
"I'll miss you too, but I think... it would be better if I stayed here." She gave Nayyara's hand a comforting squeeze. "Your aunt would be too lonely if both of us were gone, and I think....as much as I would like to see Aisha one day my time with Elzira is over. She'll always have my heart, but I have no great love for Zinris."

Nayyara looked at her aunt, her eyes narrowing as she took in the hair, the accessories, and the paint. She didn't want to forget this moment, and she swore to the falling stars that she never would.
The young teen hummed slightly, turning back to the stars, "I'll bring you back something from my travels to see each tree...so even years later you'll have each of the great mothers to connect with. I promise, Aunty." She leaned back and looked up at the stars, content to simply bask in the moment, seemingly once in a lifetime.

Pyrrha's eyes brightened at the thought. "That sounds wonderful. I could put a little piece of them at their shrines." It wouldn't be much, but maybe then she could properly tell her daughters about their ancestors and cousins.
"Just stay safe and come back home one day. You don't have to stay, but we'll all miss you if you're gone too long." She wanted so much for her niece to have all the chances she never had. Travel, grand adventures, chances to speak with earthlings...While she still wasn't sure how she felt about earthlings, Pyrrha knew they had to be better than what she'd been raised to believe. Maybe, just maybe, Nayyara would be able to experience that and with the stars to guide her Pyrrha knew it was possible.
