Quote:
Prompt 10: Poinsettias are common during the winter seasons, so it isn't unusual to see them decorating windowsills and local establishments. What is unusual are the unique Winter Star Poinsettias that seem to have accidentally mixed into the bunch. They look like ordinary Poinsettias reflecting a bit of glow from nearby lights--only, the leaves themselves are emitting a soft, silvery glow. They look like they are covered with a fine morning dew, only with fine silver glitter peppered in to give it a unique sparkle. They seem to have gone unnoticed by most of Destiny City and the landscapers, and it's not clear how these plants were selected, but anyone with a keen eye might recognize them as the catastrophe of Destiny City Botanical Garden's 2016 Winter Extravaganza. Thankfully, these variants are far less dangerous than their counterparts, however, these plants have a strange pollen that acts like an allergen and can cause agitation, oversensitivity, and sneezing to anything with much of a strong smell. Anyone who comes into contact with these plants may also find themselves suffering from flu-like symptoms such as fever, coughing, fatigue, and nausea and no medicine will relieve it, but the symptoms gradually fade. The leaves of the poinsettia are sharp and can sting like a papercut, so be careful! ...If you're worried about an all-out attack again, it might be a good idea to destroy these poinsettias--if you can manage to do so without getting caught.

The winter holidays had always been Ashley's least favourite time of year–

Or to be more specific the Christmas break was her least favourite time of year and it was a time where she spent as much time as she could holed up in her decoration-free apartment doing her best to pretend that the month of December didn't exist.

It was also a time when Reinerite tended to be very active, with a particular focus on energy draining those who seemed to be actively doing their best to spread the Christmas cheer around.

It was a pattern that worked for her over her time in Destiny City and made the winter holidays moderately more tolerable.

Unfortunately this year, her sister had decided that the winter holidays was a great time to come and visit and had given about as much notice as she had during her visit during the Star festival - aka as virtually none.

Harriet had also taken issue with her decoration-free apartment, treating it as a visual affront and had decided to 'decorate',

Ashley had tossed out the poinsettias and the dried fruit decorations, but her apartment still had more tinsel and lights than she was comfortable with, which was why she had been happy to agree when Alexandre had asked if she could investigate some strange flowers, the blond's words suggesting that it was Reinerite that was required rather than Ashley.

Harriet had been out, having mentioned earlier that she was planning to check out one of the city's winter fairs, which had meant that she hadn't had to be sneaky about leaving the apartment and it hadn't taken long for her to find somewhere private (and far enough from her apartment) to power up, before she made her way to the agreed on meeting place as Reinerite.

The ribbon had been an impulse purchase, the satin having caught her eyes as she made her way towards a stall selling various types of hot chocolate.

The red colour had been in keeping with the time of year as well, a deep red colour with a bright sheen that had been impossible to ignore and it had been so pretty that Harriet had ended up tying it into her hair.

She'd picked up some ornaments as well in addition to the hot chocolate, to go the small tree that she had ordered and had kept mute on because her sister's apartment was something that the Grinch would have been proud of and could do with some cheering up.

Harriet paused, as her grey eyes catching sight of another stall selling chocolates, hot chocolate cradled in her hands as she made her way over to the new stall.

She'd get Ashley a box, she decided. A big box.

Was it a bribe? Probably. Almost certainly–

But maybe Ashley would turn a blind eye to the tree and ornaments if Harriet made sure to give her the chocolates first.

Hope this works as a start Sleet, but let me know if not and I'll tweak it

Christmas was one time of the year he enjoyed, at least partially. It was cold, really cold for him, but the smells and the festivities - they weren't lost on him. The ashen blond was known to fill his house with decorations and more than a few scented candles to add to the holiday atmosphere. This was his second Christmas without Aiden and it still felt lonely...but he was trying.

It was when he'd been out with Aiden that he'd first spotted the flowers, how could he not? They were eye catching...and memorable. He remembered them from the last time and was more than a little weary of them. After separating from Aiden that day he'd put in a call to Ashley about them, alluding to wanting to meet his fellow General for some quality time.

He'd been there waiting, his hands tucked into the pockets of his uniform, the blond had considered some sort of muff for his hands, something furry and warm to keep his hands just as warm, but he figured it wasn't a good idea. He had some sort of a reputation and the idea of something like that just....seemed like it might ruin his reputation a bit. He couldn't help it though - he got cold easily. He had always blamed it on his small size and lack of much for body fat, nothing to really insulate his body, and that was likely the case. He was hoping to talk to Reinerite and get these plants dealt with before returning home for the evening, he had a fireplace going and nice heavy blankets to curl up with. He'd figure out some movie or something to watch.

When he did feel her energy signature he smiled - good. She was here. Turning around to try and locate her the blond was smiling, glad she'd arrived.

Whilst outside was cold, the winter breeze was colder still and Reinerite found herself wishing for the gloves that she had worn back in the days when she had been a Lieutenant as she made her way towards where she had agreed to meet the other General, as the breeze slipped under the grey cloak on her shoulders and caused the snowflake patterned fabric to flutter almost in time to her booted footsteps.

She was contemplating perhaps looking into hand warmers as she drew closer, a small part of her mind considering whether she could find some that were small enough to slip into the dark fabric that covered the back of her hands when she picked up on the aura.

It lacked the sickly-sweetness that she had come to associate with Order auras and it was not a mirror aura.

Negaverse.

It was strong too - too strong to be a Captain's aura.

A fellow General then, hopefully Benitoite.

Grey eyes scanned her surroundings in an attempt to pick out the blond, the aura close.

=========================

Harriet had found herself picking up a few more bits and bobs to go with the ornaments and the box of chocolates for her sister (otherwise known as 'the bribe') - but it had been hard to resist - tooo hard - especially since the stall holders in question had been happy to take credit card.

Too hard–

Hard enough that she hadn't even really tried.

Besides, Harriet truly believed the items that she had picked up more on another whim rather than anything else would make pretty cute presents.

Well okay, make that part presents, since she wasn't even close to making a dent in her Christmas shopping.

But maybe finding somewhere that she could sit for a bit was in order given that she was now sporting a fair few bags.

Harriet recalled passing a coffee shop earlier, one that had been liberally decorated in poinsettias–

And it had had the added plus of having both inside and outside tables.

She turned, with the intention of retracing her steps back,

If she was really lucky then maybe it would still be open.

He was mosty certainly close, and closing in on her, when he did finally come upon the blue haired general he nodded once in greeting. "It's good to see you." Smiling as he motioned her to follow him, to where he knew the dangerous plants were. "I believe I have need of your help...and opinion." He knew what these things had done, years ago, but if they would do the same thing he wasn't so sure - they'd yet to attack people as far as he'd heard.

"A few years ago I happen upon some interesting plants. I was as a civilian at the time, a social event." He started to explain as he led her towards their destination. "I've seen a few other places with the plants...public places using them as decorations. The issue is...is they are rather dangerous, and they aren't ours either." They hadn't been some Negaverse plot, at least not that he knew of.

"I can't remove them all on my own, and I don't know if trying to destroy them will cause them to attack like they had some years back. If we remove them...where to put them?"

Reinerite lips quirked in a small smile of her own as she fell into step with the other General "It's good to see you too Benitoite, I hope I haven't kept you waiting too long?"

She made it a question, punctuality as ever something that was important to her–

And whilst she had aimed to be early, it appeared that Benitoite had been earlier still.

A considering look flickered across her face as she listened to his explanation, head tilted slightly to the side. "The plants in question wouldn't happen to be poinsettias by any chance would they?" She asked at last, because whilst she hadn't been at an event involving strange plants - or at least if she had then she couldn't recall it - but she had noticed the way that some of the poinsettias that had seemed to have cropped up over town appeared to have leaves which emitted a silvery glow–

And she was pretty sure that some of the poinsettias that her sister had bought (and which she had tossed out) had had leaves with the same silvery glow.

"I'm not actually sure myself" she admitted in answer to Benitoite's dilemma about the plants.

"It's a shame that we can't just make them useful and give them to the Order pests" she mused, half to herself.

A quiet sigh, "But I am happy to give you a hand with them, maybe we could get rid of some of the more prominent ones" she frowned slightly "Do you think weed killer would work on them?"
