At least this time when he visited Cavansite’s office, he wasn’t passing out on her floor. He counted that among the few good points he had had recently. Lord only knew he needed any that he could get. For all that though, he was tired, He hadn’t slept enough, hadn’t eaten enough, had lost weight he could likely ill afford to have, and …to say the least, he was ‘stressed’. As though such a word could begin to cover the tsunami of emotions that might very well kill him before whoever had it out for him had a chance. It would be one thing if he’d seen familiar faces but, that was just it wasn’t it. If he only ever saw people in uniform… he never would. The fact he’d made himself go ahead and trust Cavansite was a small miracle. For all, he knew their General Sovereign didn’t like something that he’d found in Yu’s records. “I um…. Can I… steal you for a little. Like… drag you out, pay for food. I just… need to talk.” He was picking at the wraps around his wrist for want of access to the old scars well-bound underneath. It was the safest, sanest looking fidget he could hold himself to right now. Far darker desires brewed under his skin, knowing what he’d done to Sterling, knowing that such harsh words had come from Sterling… not quite… not quite able to add emphasis to the fact Sterling hadn’t known it was him, had only seen the surface, the side, only heard the lies…the… He tried hard to shut those thoughts down, push them away. He could deal with it later… for now, he needed answers.

Cavansite looked up and smiled softly, nodding. “Of course, Parasite. That sounds nice.” Her eyes narrowed slightly, taking in his pallor and the fact that he looked thin. “...Are you okay, kid? You don’t look so good.” Standing, the General moved over to the captain and hesitated for just a moment before drawing him into her arms and teleporting out of her office, taking the both of them to a quiet area of the city, closing her eyes for a moment and powering down when she felt nobody nearby.
“What’s going on, kiddo? You look like hell. I’ll pay for food, you clearly need to eat…”
Nothing could happen to him. She couldn't lose Yu like she had lost Laurence.
Karone was here now. Yu was reaching out to her, and there was no way in hell that she would ever push him away. “Talk to me. You know I’m here for you. Always.”

He waited for her to power down before he joined her, Shoulders sagging like being out of the uniform was permission to wilt that extra bit. He opened his mouth to talk, and then closed it, started again, and squeezed his eyes shut, trying not to see the star seed sliding back into Sterling’s chest. “I… I have a few…problems.” He murmured. I…. I need to start with a question…” He folded his arms around himself, squeezing his arms in and against his ribs. “If you… find out who a Knight is….” He hesitated. “is it …really kill or corrupt? Or.. or….” He rubbed his arms. “Am I gonna… be made into a proper monster, if I can’t…. do that.”

For a moment, it was hard for Karone to breathe. He had found someone’s identity...and obviously didn’t want to corrupt them...and even more obviously didn’t want to kill them.
Quietly, she moved closer, folding him into her arms once again, her brain going a mile a minute. “...Sterling or Priam?” It was the only thing that she could think to ask. And she knew that it was going to damn her as much as he was already damned. They were lost.
“...You...we have the option to leave. To join them instead. It’s...not something that…” She broke off, biting her lip. “...Not something I have let myself think about lately. It was why I was punished before...I...I would never let you turn into a monster, Yu. Never in a hundred years...you’re my brother and I love you…”
Karone wanted to stay with him.
But...how was she supposed to find someone to help purify them...she…
Oh. Cookie. He might know. After all, he had purified, hadn’t he?

He made a small sound in his throat, it was one of them, and he didn’t want to say which, but as little as he wanted to reveal, he revealed too much just knowing that it was someone close enough to him that he couldn’t hurt them. Not on purpose, not know that he knew. He rubbed his face all regret and too many emotions. “I can’t… I can’t THINK.” He rambled. “S… Someone sent my records to the house, all of them… I panicked. They threatened them, and then I got a hotel and they left me notes there. They even attacked Ilya… I just… I hurt them, trying to keep them safe, I hurt them. I’m sorry… I’m sorry… I didn’t… I didn’t mean to drag you into this. I just, I don’t know who else to talk to.” He hurt her too, just asking her he put her in a bad spot, the Negaverse, it seemed like everything to her, hell she lived in her office. his head hurt like hell, and he was so damn tired.

Karone nodded, running her fingers through Yu’s hair gently and holding him tightly, trying to give him something that might ground him. “It’s all right if you can’t think. I’m here. I’m glad that you came to me. I’m glad that you came to drag me into this. You know you’re precious to me, Yu. You’re my family, if we need to leave...we go together. I won’t lose you.”
She hoped that her words would be enough. Hoped that he was in any state of mind to listen to them, to process them. “Do they know that you know, Yu? Do they know about you?”
Were they upset? Angry? Was Yu in danger of losing them?
She listened to his talk about the records and though she was confused, she didn’t make any comment. “We’ll protect them, little brother. Don’t you worry. I’ll find a way to get us out of this mess. You won’t lose them. This is something that we can overcome.” Karone didn’t know if it was the truth, but she was going to have to believe it if she wanted him to believe it.
“...How did you find out? Are you really sure?”

“No, they don’t… they don’t know it’s me.” He shook his head. “Not for that… they have my police records though. I don’t know who got it, or how. Ilya said that they shouldn’t have been able to get any of it.” He swept at the dampness in his eyes… Monster… deserve… you deserve this…. He deserved this. “I… I was fighting a knight, I, took his star seed and then, then Sterling was in a Coma, I brought it back and it… “ He waved his hands trying to clasp the words. “it reacted.” He whispered, because she must know what he meant, she of all people had been doing it long enough. “He pleaded, I didn’t know it was him, I thought I killed him.” He shuddered, remembering how lost he’d felt, how much more he felt now. “I, have notes from whoever pushed Priam, they burned the house too, they say if I go back then they’ll hurt them too, I just know he’s back though. I put the star seed back and it just…” He exhaled, tipping his face towards the sky as though he sought guidance.

Ah. Sterling, then. Idly she wondered what kind of a knight he was. What a blow. Karone pressed a kiss to the top of Yu’s head and shook his head. “...Is he okay now? Did you put the starseed back? Have you seen him awake? Do you know if he is awake?” She fell quiet for a moment, rubbing the male’s back lightly. “I’m sorry, I’m not trying to overwhelm you. I’m just. Trying to make a plan.”
Karone wasn’t sure how much time that they would have, but she knew it wasn’t much. This was going to have to be done carefully.
“I know someone who might be able to help us, he...was a youma before, and he got purified…” It was so easy to continue stroking his back, trying to soothe him. “I’ll talk to him, I’ll get this figured out...we’ll get out, Yu. We’ll figure all of this out together. I’m not leaving you. I won’t lose you. Tell me all of the information that you have, we’ll make a plan together, Yu. I’ve got your back.”

“I- I put it back, I couldn’t stay to find out if he woke up.” He had to admit that much. He might have imagined Sterling stirring, he wasn’t sure. “I- I could ask Ilya for an update maybe” He leaned into her touch and sighed. “I hope he’s okay, I need him to be okay.”

“If you put it back, he should be okay. I mean...I…” Karone was quiet for a moment, relaxing against him and continued stroking his back, letting her fingers twirl in his hair. “How long was he without it? I think some strong people can last for a few days at least…” Not that she had any experience with it. Not really. SHe had pulled enough but...never put them back when she was done.
“Do that. Ask for an update. Stay in contact with me. Where are you staying right now? I have that chair in my office if you need somewhere secure to stay. If you’re being chased, that might be a good option, you know.” She wondered why he didn’t simply come to her before this.
“I’ll always protect you. I’ll find out who’s after you too, if I can. I want to know all of the details, little brother. I want to help you. You and I, we’re a team. For now and always. Negaverse or...or knights. We’re family.” They would stay that way.
“I like Sterling too. He’s good for you. He’s going to be okay. You should see him. You should talk to him, it will be better if he knows...so you can have a place to go when this is all done.”

He nodded that he would contact Ilya and ask - he’d do it now if he knew what had become of his phone - it didn’t feel like long since he’d pulled the seed, but he’d started questioning his sense of time. Falling asleep in fits and starts didn’t help him in the least, and he was afraid to even try speaking to ‘when’. “I’m… sort of all over. I was trying to stay in a hotel, but I…I think it's an officer. They can get in the rooms without… I had the security latch on, I think they drained me, I woke up with a knife in the mattress, notes pinned to the mirror…” He didn’t want to worry her more with some of what had been left, the noose, the notes - not- on the mirror. “That’s why I didn’t just… I didn’t want to risk you too, I have no idea how strong they are or what they can do, or even who they are and why they… why they seem to know me. I thought I left everything behind at last when I came here, but it’s just….” He shuddered. “If…If we figure out how to do this, m-maybe we can talk to him. I just…the threatened to burn the house down with Priam and Sterling IN it this time. If he’s an officer they’d never wake up for the fire. I…Lost my phone, I have to call Ilya, or maybe I can give you his number… ********.”

Karone nodded and looked annoyed with the news. “I’ll look around and see what I can find out, Yu. We’ll get to the bottom of this. Nobody threatens my family and gets away with it. I won’t let Priam or Sterling get hurt again, And, brother, please don’t worry about me, I promise you that I can handle myself, and if anyone tries anything in my office...well. They’ll have a spear at their throat and their starseed in my hand, trust me.”
It was cute, the fact that he worried for her. It made her smile.
“You can take my phone, Yu. Take my phone for as long as you need it. You know how to find me, and I’ll work on getting us a path out of here, okay? We’ll figure this out. I’m not at risk, and you’ll be safe. We’ll keep your boys safe too. And the horses. I like the horses.” Karone wanted to see them again. She wanted to make it all better again.

“I…I can get a new burner.” He said shaking his head.
“I just… I hadn’t… I thought I’d turn mine up, it might be in my …car, someone towed it. It died.” he groaned softly at the thought. “I’ll… ask too. I talked to someone the other day,… she said something about ‘Cosmos’, not a knight but a lady. But I haven’t a clue how….” He shook his head. “I really can’t hurt them… if it means you’ll be safe - just….” He sighed and squeezed his eyes shut. “Ignore me, I’m tired.” He murmured. She treated him like -family, like a good and proper family. Like after all this time he’d …for a time at least, been part of one. And yet, he was bound to hurt them all it seemed. “I’ll ask around… we can meet back here, and at least I can call you on a payphone if I need to.” He offered, not wanting to take resources from her that she might need.

Karone scoffed and held her phone out to him. “Take it, Yu. Don’t be silly. I don’t want you getting tailed into any stores or anything. If you have my phone, I’ll know you’re safe. It’ll make me feel better.” She kissed his cheek. “Call your Ilya. See Sterling, and then go and wait in my office. I’ll meet you there and I'll let you know what’s going on. You’ll be safe there. You’ve come to me for help, now I need you to realize that I can help you. I’m the best person you could have come too, I’m quite capable, and you should know by now that I would do anything for you.”
The very idea of anyone named Cosmos was mildly disgusting to Karone, but she knew that it was the truth. She had been told of this person before and while she hadn’t...well. While she hadn’t admitted that she wanted to meet her…
Ah. It was no matter. “Meet back in my office. Get yourself something to eat.” She pulled a twenty out of her wallet and put it into Yu’s hand with the phone, giving a stern expression. “Be there by noon tomorrow, do you hear me? If you’re not back by then, I’ll know that something happened to you and I’ll go absolutely frantic and have to come looking for you, and trust me, you don’t want to see your sister that upset.”
She flicked his nose and gave a smile. “No worries. I’ve got you. We’ve got this. Thank you...thank you for trusting me with this, Yu. It means a lot.”

He’d have argued, protested the cash but the look on her face barred it as heavily as his own mind barred the idea of going to see Sterling. If he saw him now, the questions they would have, the demands that he stay with them, not knowing how much danger he’d put them in by being there. Soon, he told himself…maybe… “I’ll be there…” He said and tried to pretend it was a promise. he’d try and be there, absolutely he would. But the world right now seemed to bar promises. Hope was a distant light, and it could as well be a train rushing swiftly towards him in a long dark tunnel. “I’ll call Ilya, I’ll let you know. And… thank you.” As though those words could encompass everything she had just offered him.
