The memories of the final night in that strange other world did not fade completely, but they became more manageable with time. After a few weeks, Pendour had powered up again, and by the time the days crept into December, she was going out almost regularly.

There was something of a goal to her wanderings. There were two agents who she wanted to speak to again, although there was not much she could do to find them except walking past the places she'd seen them again and again. She did not find them.

The first time she went searching, she found a patch of pansies that was holding onto their color, instead. The second time, she found a working fountain in a run down corner of the park. The third, she found a page.

She didn't realize that he was a page until she was right on top of him and the aura was hard to ignore. "Oh, hi there," she said, blinking at him. Today was a good enough day she didn't even try hiding her face. Instead, she looked at his outfit, her good eye lingering on the symbols. "What planet are you?"

Her voice was soft, but not so soft, and she leaned forward a little. She didn't think she'd met a knight like this before.

Voyager had already been wandering around a few nights when he got off of work to see what exactly he could do with these new... "powers". So far he knew that he could transform into what looked like a pirate apprentice and... well that was it. He had been attacked by the Youma in the museum, thankfully with no artifacts having been damaged, and had "dusted" the youma with the help of a Senshi... but that was as far as he had gotten in terms of what he was supposed to do.

Often times he would look at his pocketwatch and try to see if there was anything that could tell him what he was supposed to do, but there was nothing. Nothing other than the new Pluto symbol on it.

It made him a bit irritated that he couldn't figure it out when usually he was the one people came to help them figure out whatever they needed.

He hadn't even felt the approaching signature and when he heard a voice he practically jumped, his grip on his pocketwatch tightening. When he was able to see who had said something he could tell it was a woman... mermaid? No, she clearly had feet. It was then that he saw the Neptune symbol on her outfit, and realized that she might be like him. Looking even closer though, he could tell that she had been through some fight...

Best not to stare. He finally found his voice again and said, "Pluto. I'm called Voyager?" He said, ending it with a question since he still wasn't too used to it. "You're a Neptune Knight?" He said looking at her outfit again. It looked good on her, but he really hoped that his wouldn't somehow transform into some mer-man outfit.

"Oh, maybe I should have guessed that," she said, shaking her head, although the smile never faded. They symbol was more or less just a P, after all. "I just never knew if Pluto had knights, since, um," she glanced to the ground, realizing halfway through the sentence that this might be a touchy subject, "You know," she finished in a whisper.

She brought her hands in front of her chest, interlacing her fingers. "Well, if you're here, it must be a place of great magic. It also makes us a little bit like neighbors." She reached for the Neptune symbol hanging on her belt and tilted it so that he could see. "I'm Neptune. Or, um, Pendour, Squire of Neptune. It's a pleasure."

That would have been the time for some kind of sweeping introductory gesture, only, Pendour had never learned how to curtsy in the mermaid skirt and she couldn't think of much else to do on the spot, so she just ended up waving.

"Voyager's a lovely name," she said. "It really makes you sound like some wandering knight." A voyager could even be something else, like a messenger, or an explorer. It was a name full of possibilities.

"Since the being declared not a planet and such? That's not a an inaccurate assumption. I don't know how all of this works, but I guess Pluto still counts, I'm here after all." He replied, chuckling a little. He wasn't sure what exactly made it so that certain planets had Knights, perhaps it was only the ones in their solar system with the inclusion of Pluto? He hadn't met many other Knights yet so it was an obvious conclusion.

It was a bit sad though since there were so many other places out there! It meant that there was a lot more history to be looked at out there in the Universe!

"Neptune, you certainly look the part! It looks good on you though." He assumed that most Neptune Knights may have had something to do with the sea considering who the planet was named after. "It's good to meet you too Pendour." He said with a bow. He thought it was pirate-y enough in front of a beautiful woman.

"Thank you. I think it fits very well with the outfit at least." He said taking a moment to look down at it before looking at her again. "The fact that I am a knight of Pluto though does make me want to explore though. I work as a museum archivist so I'm all about historical artifacts. And finding out more about the history of the universe would be quite a step up! Though I realize I wouldn't be able to put that in any Earthly museum. Though I do wonder if I would be able to go and find some artifacts and put them in some sort of museum elsewhere. I think it would be interesting at the very least."

He smiled at her. "But enough about me. What about you? What do you do? Or I guess, what do Knights do exactly?"

“Because of not being an, um, planet, yes,” she said with a small shrug now that she could see he didn’t seem so upset by Pluto’s status. “Well, NASA doesn’t know everything. They think Neptune’s just a cloud.”

Maybe they knew it wasn’t just a cloud, she’d looked online and seen theories about strange weather patterns even a core under miles and miles of atmosphere, but NASA had no clue about the seeming endless ocean, or about the civilization that had flourished beneath the waves.

“If you’re an archivist, I think there’s a lot you’ll like about being a knight,” she said. “We’re all connected to these ancient, magical places. Wonders. You’ll have one on Pluto.” Her smile widened. She was in her element, talking about this. “All the ones I’ve seen are beautiful, and I’m sure they’re all full of history and artifacts, too.”

She smiled for a little longer, letting that sink in, before she pressed her lips together and glanced to the ground. “Earth is, um, not as simple as that.” She looked Voyager over, slowly. “How much do you know about knights, or senshi, or the Negaverse? Are you new?”

He was asking her questions, but she didn’t want to go repeating things.

He grinned. "Well, I suppose there might be some sort of magical shield around all of these places. Maybe once they figure out how to get through those they can see what these places are really like. Though I feel that would be more of a detriment to us rather than any help." As much as he liked looking at things in museums and learning about ancient civilizations, he knew that too much human "intervention" usually meant disaster, and they were very lucky to have any of the artifacts that they had right now.

He listened to her with excitement. "That sounds wonderful. I'm not one for "modern" Wonders but I would love to see the ones that we're all connected to, Knight-wise. I'm sure there's a lot that we could learn going to them, even if we can't understand everything." As much as he wished that he could just go somewhere and understand everything at once, there was always an excitement when discovering new things without much help or ease of understanding.

"I'm very new. I have powered up a couple of times, and maybe know the basics. But that was after a very stressful night of being awakened right in the middle of my museum being attacked, so I couldn't talk much to the Senshi who had been there and helped save me." As much as he wanted to ask more from the Senshi, he figured it wouldn't be the best use of either of their time as the police had arrived and he had to very quickly figure out how to power down to talk to them and convince them that the building just feel on it's own.

While Pendour often hosted visitors at her wonder and would generally welcome just about anyone, the thought of scientists probing around at the stones and the bones made something twist a little in her stomach. On one hand, having the carbon dating and the expert opinions might be nice, but on the other, she didn't want too much of Neptune to end up in some museum.

"They may find the wonders some day, but I think it'll take time, especially for the places at the edge of the solar system like ours," she said. They'd only gotten real pictures of Pluto a few years ago. Anything hidden on the surface was still safe from prying eyes for now.

Pendour nodded when he said he was very new, and she folded her hands in front of her as she thought. "As far as what knights are, we're, um," she squinted, "Stewards is a good word for it, I think. We watch over these places, these wonders. They're all different. In the past we had different jobs, but in the past thousand years or so, the wonders have fallen into ruin."

No, that wasn't it. It was no good sugarcoating things too much.

"Well, they've been destroyed by the forces of Chaos, which are now here on Earth. It's what fuels the ones in black and their monsters." Pendour let that sink in for a moment before offering a soft smile. "So we oppose Chaos in various ways, and we also try to rebuild."

Voyager took in what she was saying, and while it made him frown, it didn't make him feel hopeless, just a bit sad. Still, if they were "stewards" or something like Pendour had said, perhaps they were like museum curators. Wanting to protect ancient artifacts from being destroyed. He liked the idea. "Well... that makes a bit too much sense." He said. "It's good to know that that's why we oppose Chaos though. It's not just because of their name, but because they really are set on destroying everything it seems." Why though he couldn't understand. Of course, could one really understand why something would want everything reduced to nothing?

"It makes me want to see all of the various Wonders even more though. If they are destroyed and even in various states of ruin, it would still be interesting to go and look at them, to try to imagine what they may have looked like in their glory days." He grinned. It made him want to see his own Wonder!

"Sad that we do have to fight these Chaos people, but I assume we have various tools or powers to do so. At least the Senshi who was there when I became a Page was. What about Knights? Do we have any special abilities?"

Pendour nodded slowly, hands folded in front of her. The annihilation of everyone's worlds was a dark, serious topic, and one she didn't like to think about too much, but it was important for everyone involved in this magical conflict to know about the seriousness of things. Voyager seemed to be taking it well, although it was hard to know the true depth of the situation just from one conversation.

It was easier to talk about space, and his excitement was contagious. She smiled, too. "If you're used to poking around through Earth's ancient civilizations, you might have an advantage when it comes to putting the pieces together up there," she said, giving a quick nod towards the sky. "There's all kinds of archeology. There's physical artifacts, linguistics, maybe even fossils." Her smile tilted to one side. "There's a little Indiana Jones, too. Um, secret passages and magic."

It turned out there was magic everywhere once you knew to look for it. "Well, you're a page, so you're just getting started," she said. "You should already be much stronger and faster, though, and have some kind of item." She summoned her ocarina to demonstrate, running a thumb over its smooth surface. "It starts out for practice, I think. I had to learn to play this before I could unlock its magic and become a squire. It'll probably be something different for you, though."

Although he was already talking so much about fighting. She glanced to the ground. "Anyway, um, fighting's not the only option," she said, voice going even softer. "Chaos is awful, but a lot of the soldiers were tricked into serving it. They can be reasoned with."

Some of them were farther gone than others, it was true, but Pendour didn't want to start out someone's knight journey by encouraging them to hurt anyone else.

He laughed at the Indiana Jones part. "Sounds like fun! I'd love to help with any archeological discoveries, even if I don't get to keep it. But I can at least say that I probably won't be full on destroying temples like Indiana Jones. Though it depends on the defense systems I believe." He said, ending it with a chuckle. Still, if he didn't think about all of the fighting and needing to save the world, it sounded like there were whole civilizations out there that no one knew about and that he wanted to learn!

He nodded. "Item?" He took out the pocket watch that he had been keeping in his uniform and showed it to her. "This is what I have. It has the symbol of Pluto on it, though it doesn't appear to be doing anything yet. I'm sure with time that will change. Though I do wish I knew what it could do. Does the item change?" He thought that he may have heard something about it, but wasn't sure.

He took a moment to look at her when she mentioned that not all of Chaos was evil. He realized that it must have taken her a lot of thought considering the injury that she had. Unless she had been attacked by some sort of mountain lion or a rake, he doubted that the accident came from something earthly. He regained his smile. "I'll keep that in mind then. I'm sure there are some that can be convinced, though is there a way to take them out? If they were forced I can imagine that they might want to leave, but that would be quite hard to do." They were dealing with magic after all. If they had been forced, he doubted that some sort of magic potion would do the trick to get them out.

“Oh, let me see,” said Pendour. Her smile was almost reverent as she leaned in close, over the little pocket watch, and she ran her pinky over the symbol etched into its surface. “It’s lovely,” she said. “It suits you.” She leaned in closer still, squinting a little, before she straightened again and shook her head. “And I’ve no idea how to unlock its potential.”

No, of course she wouldn’t know. There was a certain amount of advice she could give, about the war and the city and the things she’d seen, but when it came down to it, each knight’s journey was a very personal one.

“Perhaps you’ll find your answers among the artifacts?” She glanced back to him. Since he was interested in that, it was as good a place as any to start. “Or in the city, even. I think some of it comes down to just adjusting to all this.” She gave a vague wave towards her ocarina and gown.

“If you do find someone who wants to leave, there are people who can remove chaos in a process called purification. The one I know is called Camelot, but I think there are others,” she said, then paused for a long moment, fiddling with a string of pearls. “It’s not something all of them are interested in. Some are all broken and far gone, some of them just like the power, maybe?” Of course she saw him glance at her eye, but she didn’t look away. She wasn’t trying to hide the dangers of all this.

“That’s something I don’t have an easy answer for.”

He chuckled. "Thank you, it's been passed down through my family. I guess I was the one it chose." What he could actually do with it was the biggest mystery though. He wasn't sure what Pluto Knights did, and considering his outfit, he wondered if it had anything to do with sailing or piracy.

He really needed to meet one of his fellow Knights. As nice as it was to be able to meet with other Knights and get a general idea of what the job entailed, talking to another, Plutonian?, would give him a better idea of what he could do.

"I'll be on the lookout for anything that can help me then." He nodded. Perhaps he could find something on Earth to help him.

And what she said about purification and the Negaverse made sense. Most ordinary people were inherently good, but of course there were always those bad ones that one couldn't ever really "fix". "But there is a way and that's good enough. Maybe while I'm out hunting for my weapon answers I'll come across more information on that at the same time." It was a start at least. But he didn't want to go about telling people first unless he was sure that they really did want to leave and until he had enough information that he could be sure that he could give them the right steps to do so. "Camelot sounds interesting though. As much as I like my name and yours, it's intriguing to see what sort of Knight names are out there."

He slipped the pocket watch back into the pocket in his uniform. "I'd love to visit your Wonder sometime. Even if I can't take anything back from it, I would love to see it."

Pendour gave the pocket watch another glance. "Oh, it's an heirloom? That might make things easier." She sent her ocarina off to subspace and started running fingers through her long hair, instead. "I mean, if the knighthood is a family thing, you might have an ancestor waiting for on your wonder," she said, then squinted slightly. "Well, the ghost of one. I know, it's another hard thing to believe, but they linger sometimes to give advice to the next generation."

Unsolicited advice, in her case, but she had faith that not all the knights that had lived a thousand years ago had quite the same issues that Irving did. Even some of Irving's advice was sound, though. For all his violent tendencies, he had taught her much of what she knew about her magic.

She was not going to linger on the thought of him now, though.

"You'd like Camelot," she said instead, smiling gently. "He's Earth, very proper, all knight in shining armor. There's a lot of nice people out there to meet, really."

While the magical underbelly of Destiny City might be harsh, it wasn't all bloodthirsty generals and bitter ghosts.

With a slight tilt of her head, she added, "Some of the names are a little hard to say, though."

"Ghost of an ancestor?" His voice wavered a bit. The only type of ghosts that he knew were usually from horror movies. "They aren't... dangerous are they? And are there more? If there's one ancestor, could there be more?" Okay now it was starting to sound much creepier to actually go and visit. Even though he was interested in the past, it didn't mean that he wanted to meet those in the past if he couldn't touch them. Especially if they were dangerous.

With his thoughts all on scary ghosts he barely heard what Pendour had to say afterwards, but he managed to just catch it. "Y-yeah you're right." His mind was still firmly on the ghosts. "At least we got easy ones though." He held the pocket watch tightly as he closed it.

He took a deep breath to calm his nerves. Even if there were scary ghosts, he still had to go to his Wonder eventually!

Pendour couldn't help but tilt her head a little. Voyager had taken the speech about magic and even the infection of Chaos so well, but now here he was. He'd gone white as, well, a ghost, all just at the mention of ancestors.

"They're just people who can't touch things," she said, making sure to keep her voice even softer than before. "They've got all the goodness and all the flaws in them that anybody else has. They're not guaranteed to be kind."

She squinted towards the horizon, where Neptune might be if it was easier to see from Earth. "Mine has strong opinions that are different than mine, and that caused some frustration for him at first."

He'd been angry and sent her from the wonder crying, but she didn't bring that up. He seemed to be the exception rather than the rule, anyway.

"Still, I'd say they're less dangerous than someone with, um, a physical form."
