She just needed to give them a simple nudge, right?
Consequently Shaowei now found herself back in the quieter straights she had been before. She was in a thoroughfare for dog walkers and joggers, but beyond that she was unlikely to be disturbed. Given that they were unlikely to come in bursts she could test one and then move on to the next after she'd reviewed her success or failure. Fortunately by the time she'd returned her previous victim appeared to have woken up and left the scene so she was very much left to her own devices.
Wraith summoned, she turned to it and took a deep breath. The expression upon its blurred features remained largely unchanged and the haunting gaze seemed much the same. Were they devoid of emotion or simply disinterested in what was around them? She couldn't be certain but she preferred to treat it with some degree of respect and with that in mind, she saw fit to address it that manner. Instructions owuld be given, careful and precise ones at that, and when they were ready her new found companion would hopefully get it right this time.
It wasn't long before they would have that chance too! Another jogger was rounding the corner and with her earphones firmly in place it was unlikely that even Shaowei's clopping shoes would be heard. Free to move as she needed to, she stayed out of the woman's peripheral vision and gave a small wave towards her wraith. Much to her relief it began to follow after the woman, weaving in and out of the shadows. Within moments it was upon her and then it did do as it had been instructed to. Its spindled fingers extended out carefully towards the woman's shoulder and scarcely touched her.
The result was a resounding failure.
The woman hadn't been affected at all, the fleeting touch simply not enough to cause significant damage, but at the same time that brief contact didn't seem to have done anything either. Her suspicions were confirmed when the wraith returned to her and the faint pulsing she had seen previously was no longer present. The duration of the touch hadn't been enough, or perhaps there was slightly more nuance to it. She couldn't quite put her finger on it but it was clear that slight nudges weren't going to be enough. Perhaps the more abrupt 'bump' was better? Enough contact to nudge a person off course for a step, but not enough to completely knock them off their feet?
She released a small sigh and slumped down against the wall.
"All right we need to change it up a bit," she said finally and reviewed her instructions. They try again when the next jogger or walker came their way. She'd get this right eventually, it was just going to take her more time than she would have preferred...
