Dressed in a blue plaid with a black turtleneck underneat, Rin stepped into the cafe worriedly. The Japanese woman had a normal, white, square eyepatch over her bad eye and no hair to hid behind. She had taken that huge step to 'open herself up' to more people talking to her. She figured her intimidating look with all her hair blocking her face wasn't helpful at all to her loneliness. So her pixie cut had been the best thing to solve that. The complete opposite. She'd donated over 24 inches of untouched hair. It would be one of the rare, few times she went somewhere besides work at Romano's. So stepping inside and glancing at the menu board, Rin looked mildly lost and confused. Normally she'd order coffee for herself. Now she wanted to purchase something for her upcoming meeting at the abandoned church. She'd have to watch how she moved no matter what she bought. Worriedly, Rin chewed on her lip as her fingers moved against her skirt absentmindedly.

Ever since being hired at the Sugar Star, Elissa felt like she had a new lease on life. Her old place went under for a few reasons, notably a decline in the clientele, both number and behavior wise. She had a feeling that the previous owner was making strange or straight-up bad decisions under the table and eventually just collapsed the place on top of them (not literally, thank goodness). Her small Negaverse accomplishments (if grabbing a weird Eternal senshi right away was a small accomplishment) helped, too. It felt nice to be doing things and to have these things matter one way or another. In any case, Elissa greeted the new visitor with a bright smile and a wave. "Welcome to the Sugar Star!" she announced, being the very definition of a welcoming NPC. Her eyes followed Rin around the cafe, and while this woman had her charms, the eyepatch and anxious demeanor were mildly concerning. Still, there was a way around that. "Do you need help picking something out? I know it can be hard when everything looks good, or if you don't know what coffee is what."

The chipper voice caught her attention and Rin turned her head toward the woman behind the counter. "Oh, hello," she replied quietly, stepping up closer to the counter. "I'm not looking for coffee. I'm... I'm meeting a potential new friend and I wanted to bring something. I don't know what he likes though. So..." She waved her hand at all the cakes and pastries. "If you know what is a pretty standard, safe option is. ..I don't want anything overly sweet, or messy because we are meeting outside." It was the truth. He was a potential friend. And they were meeting outside, just at night.

Elissa tapped her chin, already putting too much thought into what would work best for the young woman's meeting. "It depends on your definition of messy. I don't think you can go wrong with the chocolate croissants. Or even the regular ones. If the flaky crust is too messy, then..." She paused as she mentally ran down the inventory in her head. "I think fruit bread can work, too. There might be crumbs, but it shouldn't be too bad. I recommend the strawberry bread." Her smile sweetened slightly after that. The stakes were more than pushing a sale for now. She genuinely wanted this girl's meeting to go well, even if she knew none of the details. If she could help with that, why wouldn't she?

"Well, we won't have a table or anything. That is what I mean by messy. So... nothing with a lot of sauces, I think?" Maybe that was helpful. But then the magic word of 'strawberry' was said and Rin's eye lite up. "...What is strawberry bread? I have had banana bread. Is it the same but... with strawberries?" American strawberries were honestly quite a shock when she first moved here. They weren't as sweet and delicious as the ones she had in Japan, but they were not nearly as expensive. It was such an odd thing to think about, truly, but here she was. "Crumbs aren't bad. That is not that messy... So I might take you up on two chocolate croissants." She knew she loved them, anyway.

"So a picnic then? That sounds like a good time. I hope it goes well for you." The reaction to the mention of strawberry bread gave Elissa a little jolt of glee. "Yes! It's exactly that. The bread is made with strawberries instead of bananas. And there's other kinds, too, like lemon and blueberry bread." The acceptance of the chocolate croissants gave her another little boost. Nothing felt better than hitting the nail on the head! "Okay, I'll get those wrapped up for you," Elissa said as she went to do just that. "Anything else you'd like?" She hoped that the strawberry bread would continue to pique some interest.

"...Honestly... Maybe some advice?" She asked, hoping it wasn't out of the ordinary. Rin didn't have a lot of people she could talk to about anything, so this was her only shot right now. "Is there a way to tell if someone is being nice in general or... Something more?" God above, she felt like a high school girl. She was in he mid twenties, and she felt like she was fifteen again. This wasn't good. Her face was heating up as each moment passed, and she wished she could actually hide behind her long, thick hair she chopped off. That was weird to ask, wasn't it? "S-sorry. Never mind. Uh. That'll.. Maybe the blueberry bread."

Elissa couldn't help but smile at the request for advice, though it was partly a nervous reaction as well. Frankly, Elissa wasn't terribly experienced with the romantic either. A stray boyfriend or two on the tail end of high school and then nothing much at all. Was that odd? Well, she could mull over that later. "Hmm, well..." She paused thoughtfully to turn over what little she knew, then gave an awkward little giggle. "Honestly, I wonder about that too. I do wish I could help you narrow it down, but I never figured it out myself. If you ever think you're onto something, you can certainly come back and tell me!" Since she'd left the lure of a quest of sorts, she figured that introductions were in order. "By the way, I'm Elissa," she said, tapping her nametag as she did. "What's your name?"

"Oh, my name is Rin," she stated like she couldn't believe she didn't introduce herself. She seemed a little stunned. "I'm so sorry for my manners. I just... have a lot on my mind as of late." She let out a small laugh and then bit down on her lip. "I think that might be all I get though. I should be going soon so I'm not late." With that, Rin fished out her wallet, not even hearing the total yet. At least she could prepare her debit card. "Elissa's a pretty name."
