The night was warm, unseasonably so as a black winged mare wandered the dusk colored landscape. Blood speckled hooves carried her through the short grass as she wandered. Veiled eyes turned towards the slowly fading rays of the sun and the slow rise of the moon. Her wings flicked slightly over her back as they stretched and refolded themselves. Closing her eyes, the mare opened her mouth and begun to sing.
"Lie my little one, close your eyes. The sun has set and moon does rise. Fear not the shadows that stretch the lands. For the sun shall rise again."
Her voice floated across the open field like dandelion fluff on a gentle breeze. To those who heard could hear the sadness in her tone. The weight of loss of someone that they did not know. Leilah started walking once more as she continued her song. Eyes closed as what could have been blood trailed down her cheeks to drop off her chin.
"Though the sun may rise, you just lie in rest. Sleep my little one for you have done your best. Leave this world with not a heavy heart. But with my love no how far we part."
Her voice soon quiets as her tone goes down to a hum. The bushes rustle as something spied the mare, a small foal whom looked up at their mother. The mother nosing her foal away from the sight. Though not without question.
"Who is that momma? Why does she sound so sad?"
"Never you mind, that one is to be left alone." The mother said as she stirred her foal away, "That is the mourner, if she is here. Someone, somewhere is going to have a loss."
While this brought more questions from the foal, it was lead away by its mother and away from Leilah. The black mare merely stood where she stopped having heard the movement. Ears laying back ever so slightly as she frowned. Was she that scary? Did others hate her that much, even if she did mourn the loss of every soul that departed the lands and return to the dreamspace? Gaze going earthwards, she merely sighs, before continuing her walk, voice raising high once more to start over.
"Lie my little one, rest your head. The moon does rise from its bed. Return to the Dream and be born again."
